Back in the 70s, the Celica Liftback was known as the Japanese Mustang, while the notchback coupe was the Japanese Camaro. You can't find any first generation Celicas anymore. Glad you found this one.

Yea just be in the market for them & you will get one in due time. I got mine for a 07 Manual Impreza valued at around $2k. Course it was missing a ton of stuff but not nearly as rusty as a lot of them I see in the lower price range.

+PioneerDC4 Yeah, but there aren't enough of them. I mean, the Celica was a very good RWD car but after the 3rd gen they made it FWD. Same for the Corolla AE series, the 86 was the last one. Toyota RWD cars are a real treat, we saw that with the GT86, but we need more. Just one car is not satisfying.

+Toyota4Life Sure, there were also great Celicas, the mighty GT4 with the 3S-GTE or the Celica TS with the 2ZZ. But I believe that the Celica belongs to a simple RWD with a nimble body and great sporty feeling, like the GT86.

You can't fit a V8 in that. Puts V8 in, adds supercharger, doesn't have to make a hole in the bonnet... Somebody out there is eating their words right now.

Stirling Moss Except this engine is way to smooth and refined to be a Mustang. Also it's strong smooth linear power band is more like a German V8, strong down low torque but keeps pulling hard to redline. Think BMW M62 S62. It's those type of engines that are so smooth you have to check at red lights to make sure it's not off.

I live on Oahu and those shots of you driving near the airfield is near where I live. I know it as Barber's. That's where I took my first car, 97 z28 Camaro to so burnouts and slide around corners. Now that I drive an STI, I take it there to mess around in the empty white coral lots. Barber's is where you take your car to fuck around in, minimal traffic and open roads. Glad you got to drive one of the few spots we have here, in a beast of a machine too!

I'm always going back and forth on adding boost to my 5.0, but living on Oahu and having no race track always makes me feel like it's pointless. That being said, since mustangs are so common, there's always an itch to do something to make it stand out from the majority of other cars on the road.

Literally was thinking about this today randomly as I remembered a GT liftback for sale for $1700 when I was 15 in good condition. Sweet cars, love Toyotas. If I ever have to sell the Terminator, I am grabbing one of these and a junkyard v8.

I love these cars so much. I'm dieing to get the opportunity to do a proper 2jz swap and setup the suspension the way it should be. Retrofit interior, and bring back some JDM touches to the exterior. This car has been on my list for 13 years now. In the next few year I hope to obtain one and start building it right.
