Project Iona Part 15: S500 Rear Bumper Install and Fitment. Rear Center Reflector Restoration

Weeks worth of work doing the removal, preparation, paint and polish come together as we reinstall the rear bumper for Project Iona. She looks fantastic put back together and so does the rear center reflector which we restore to its original shine and luster. Using some liquid chrome paint and two part epoxy we seal together one of the final exterior pieces on this W140 S500.
The thumbnail picture was taken on our first drive after putting her all back together.

I was just looking at my trunk seal and I may try to get one as well as mine is cracked on the bottom left. I see the p/n as 140-750-00-98. The problem with a new seal is maybe readjusting so it shuts easily. W140's as a group, tend to have trunks that ride slightly high in the back compared to the quarter panel. I see comments often on BAT regarding this thinking it shows a flaw when actually it's more a design issue with a bulky rubber seal and maybe a needed latch adjust. Some years back I also had to clean up some rust and repaint, but it was limited to the area around the lock cylinder. When I bought mine in 06' I purchased new trunk hooks and the cargo net. I'll look in my bag of extra stuff and see if I have two more if you haven't found them already.

Between both of my current W140s, one closes and goes through the complete soft close sequence of initial latch, vacuum, draw down, and close. The other, goes through the entire sequence and then a dreaded hiss as the vacuum leaks and she pops up. One day I’ll read more on the repair and solutions for a fix and video. Enjoy those BAT comments. Some are spot on.

@@w140restorations I've been lucky as my pneumatics have been flawless (other than having to put in new lumbar bladders) so I don't have insight into all the PSE stuff. Funny though how everyone focuses on the doors pulling closed, but miss that subtle little release and movement of the door back out as the air relaxes. I'm sure you've experienced the same when you try to open the door too soon after closing it and the door say's "wait a minute, I'm not done here!"

Yes indeed. That’s exactly how they act. Kudos on the bladder replacement! The seats are so tricky. Need to finish the ones in Iona when time permits. I’ve got the parts but time can be a cruel mistress with how long it takes for that job to be done correctly.
