Almost 100 hours spent to this roof venting. Hopefully it will work as it should and this beautiful, yet prone to rust, vent grill will last another 50 years. Needles to say, I would say that during this month I have created a love/hate relationship to this panel. The inner beam with vent channels will be welded in when I receive the weld-thru glue.

Just a comment to you not from Scandinavia. Finnish people are born with something called sisu. I don´t know how to translate it, but it is perseverance x 10. 🙂 I really like your metal work, so many good tricks and methodes even for an old Norwegian panel beater. Glad to see this old classic given a new lease of life. Look forward to coming episodes!!

I agree. I think you still find sisu to an extent here in Norway as well, but maybe less ingrained than earlier.

Thanks for the comments. I thinks it is common in all Nordic countries, we just need it here up north. But I would say that since this is my first big project, I truly have found my own sisu with this....

Still can’t really believe what I see here. I know experienced body builders that would have never even tried that job with the vents. Phantastin even if it makes obvious to me what an amateur I am. 👍🏻

Sorry, i´m late. Just wanted to share my impressions. After watching this episode, i felt a huge relief after all the panels were installed. Considering how many hours of work you spent on this section, it must be kind of satisfying even if you are your own greatest critic. And finally the animations are back. I guess it´s a sign that you are a little bit back on the easy side emotionally. Again the way of the water is priceless. Tons of respect for all your efforts. It´s all there. Suspense, drama, backlash and finally relief. I´m pretty sure the old Opel from Hamburg will have a second life. Can´t wait for it.

Thanks for the good observations and you nailed the status completely. I started the rear window vents on my Christmas holiday, and put it (almost) together at the beginning of February. I was so fed up with the panel, and had a constant fear at the back of my head, that this might not work, and I need to find new roof. Only thing remaining is welding the inner beam and panel, and I have bought a special weld through 2K panel glue, since the gap between the water groove, and outer vent panel must be watertight, yet spot welded since it is one of the key seams that take in the stress of car lateral movement, and is the key point for torsional strength. So it must be strong, yet waterproof. Animations, yes. The past few episodes has been VERY time consuming, and since I have only few hours at the time to work with, every minute counts...Therefore, the story telling has been very mundane for past two episodes...Thanks for great comment, and for the follow !!

@@GT1900garage to be honest i was wondering why you used that 2K coating. But after your explanation it’s totally clear. You have to make sure that this section is save for the next 50 years ☺️

I owned several old cars since I was 23 years old, but only repaired them - never restored them. At the moment I am repairing the mechanics of a 1955 MG TF and I hope the bodywork is not too bad and a repair here and there will do! I never repaired a car mechanically to the extent that I have to do on this car! However, I always dreamt about restoring a car like you do, but fear that I will get stuck and can’t finish the job. Best of luck with your restauration, good progress and best wishes to Finnland! Dietmar

Folks have no idea how long this work takes. Seems that it would be faster. Your careful methodical approach wins the day. You are doing a fantastic job. Your videos are also prepared in an artful manner. Love your channel! I am too old and pissed off to use social media. Do you have a website?

Thanks for comment, Actually this damn panel took more than a month to do it...So I am SO happy to move on. The lower beam and vent beam needs to be welded when I have side panels up an ready, since I may need to have access inside the C-pillar. Also, the joint between the vent beam needs to be done waterproof. I have ordered a weld through body panel glue, since the seam must be watertight, yet structurally strong (= welds). I don't have website, sorry

Yes it is. I already had a shelter found for it, but this year winter came in one whoosh, and missed the opportunity to drive it there....

Wouldn't work without sisu! I want to get an english wheel for similar jobs. Is this size big enough? Most are bigger and take up lot of space.

@GT1900garage 5 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment. This small English wheel is good for small pieces. Actually I thought it would be more of a toy, but it is proven to be useful several times already. If you need to do bigger panels, floor model is what you need.

I bought my GT in in 1977 for less than a thousand dollars. The guy i bought it off of hated it. People back then wanted American made cars. Built for Americans adults. People would buy a Pinto or a Vega or a Bug instead. Better styling than a Pinto but drove the same. Good car if your wife wanted something sporty.

Yes, the GT was a small European "sportscar" and 68 Corvette was the brother with steroids. I personally like small peculiar European cars, as I drive 1000cc Mini throughout the summer. Not very fond of American cars, but surprisingly, the 68 Vette is one of my favourites...

Dear Reader, Perhaps the video's will even be more interesting if Mr. 'GT1900garage' would explain his actions, and his video's would be 30 minutes long. With so much skills and knowledge, it would be interesting to watch and learn. With Kind Regards, Michèl F. van den Brun Dutch pedestrian
