Other than VW's Karmann Ghia, there is no other car that rusts so much as the Opel GT...😮 Unfortunately, this will really hold back the value potential of the Opel GT in the future....

I'm impressed with the way the monocoque is patched together! Is the second liquid after the surfacer resin? Is the yellow box water blasting? I guarantee the garage equipment.

Thanks for the comment. Yes. Opel GT is car with low production numbers, therefore there are not big panels throughout the car, but instead small panels stitched together. Lot of seams, therefore prone to rust. The grey pain is industrial 2K epoxy primer. and the red one is weldthrough acid based paint for surfaces to contact another plate. Yellow cabinet is for sand (and soda) blasting.

@@GT1900garage the Volvo 1800 is a massive pain to restore . It was originally a British designed body , and they like to weld everything, including the front fenders . So very few things unbolt . There are also a lot of areas inside where mud collects and rusts. I try to chemically remove most of the rust , I want to upload a new video next few days where I show the pump system and chemical mix that I use. Some areas are completely gone , so I have to weld in new ones like the front cross member and rear fenders .

Wow, I’m doing literally almost the exact same process on my Volvo 1800. The front crossmember were rotted to had to peel off layer by layer weld in new patches . Just got done with making a patch panel for the floor today . I really should keep the phone recoding video as I do it . I’ve got a few KZfaq’s here but haven’t done a video for a while because nobody watches them

Having owned a GT I would agree with Neil Young "Rust never sleeps". I abandoned my GT after hand making parts of fenders and quarter panels because I realized it was just a car...nothing eternal. Like the Bible says "Lay up your treasures in heaven where neither moths nor rust corrupt and thieves can't break in and steal".
@GT1900garage

What keeps you happy, what makes you love what you do - do it. Nothing is eternal, I might enjoy things that are now present.

@@GT1900garage Having been a journey man body man and painter for about 40 years , I have noticed that the vehicles that we build become a sort of narcotic...but the high always wears off, and we no longer love what we did. That's why people put enormous amount of their time, resources and energy into something that they will only get rid of a few years later...as everything they did starts to come undone. God told me, be concerned only with the things that are eternal...and don't make anything in the world your god, because it will all perish. It will rust, moths will eat it, thieves will steal it, a big truck will run into it, it will be swept away in a flood, or catch fire and burn...don't set your heart on those things, set your heart on eternal God and eternal life.

Congrats on the 1 million views for this series. Well deserved and never has so much rust repair been done on one car, LOL. I am still holding on to my prediction that every panel on this car will be repaired at some point. What is also amazing is you are doing this mostly with hand tools and small power tools; and not with a complete fabrication shop. Goes to show talent will overcome having all the tools in the world if you do not have talent. Really looking forward to the upcoming episodes.
