Episode #7. Getting parts done for the assembly. Car will be thoroughly sandblasted and epoxy primed before assembling all the panels. Small budget, beginner mode restoration. Huge thanks to the Soup Classic Motoring and ‪@soupclassicmotoring‬ for being a inspiration for this kind of project documentation.

I am amazed by your skills, and also by the amount of metal work involved. The take away, whatever the vintage car might be, is drive it as you bought it. And a fully restored one will always be cheaper than a so called "excellent condition" one. Always impressed by the awfull surprises that can only be discovered once the car is bare metal, and than it's too late to turn back...

I agree. After seeing all the rust traps in Opel GT, I think this is one of the few ACTUALLY rust free GTs in the world 😂. And this car will be on the road a lot. Not in a garage under blanket..

Thanks for the comment, yep; I am part of the generation who thinks that there is no need to buy full set of tools for one time use only. Then you have to improvise.

Fantastic update...love the stop-motion animation too. Many hundreds of hours in this no doubt...not many watching will realise how much time this gobbles up...all looks so quick on youtube! I'm rebuilding a 50yo caravan from the chassis up and I'm at least 1000 hours in with so far to go. Anyway, keep it coming, reckon your numbers will really take off soon...

Glad you like them! I am part of the generation who dont find reasonable to buy full set of tools for just one time use only. I rather spend my budget on car itself...although, with proper tools work tends to be more satisfying...

Hello from Sweden 🙂 Really great videos, both high level of video editing, and metal shaping on the panels you make. Really impressive. Im myself is fixing an Opel Kadett City -77 with quite alot of rust repairs. Good luck with the rest of the renovation of the GT, I am going to enjoy to keep on following your progress.

The car body was put together from a surprisingly high number of small panels. I think this is due to the fact the it was produced by a French company in a small series style. You are doing a great job restoring the car and filming the whole process.

Thanks for comment. Yes, I have notices this same. With very small production numbers, there were no possibility to make press molds for complete panels....Lot of factory welding, lot of small panels, lot of places where rust can have a feast.

Wow, incredible work for the tools you have available. Very impressed with your metal work and welding. BTW, by the time you are done, do you think there will be any panel on the car that does not need some form of metal work😇? Good choice on being safe about possible asbestos, but please note that regular paint masks are not rated asbestos safe, even the cartridge type. I believe you can get the correct cartridges for a typical cartridge type mask. Looking forward to following this build to completion. I have always thought the Opel GT was one of the prettiest cars of its time and can still remember the first time I saw one. Reminded me of a mini-Corvette. It is a shame they didn't sell more of them.
@GT1900garage
@GT1900garage Жыл бұрын
Oh dear, no. My welding is very poor. I get the seam done solid, but they look like seagull poop. And yes, I genuinely think that there is not a single panel that is good as they are...And regarding asbestos; I'm fully aware of limitations of reqular mask, but I lived my childhood in 80´s where we built tree houses with all the scrap material we found. I got my lifetime dose in those days, so if this GT is going to take me down, it is meant to be. Still melting and scooping and wet sanding is better than grinding it with angle grinder.
