Finally found courage to tackle the FENDER issues. Previously repaired poorly with body filler and chemical metal. I have been avoiding this for some time. Very difficult shapes, curving all possible directions. Operation was so big, that it took two episodes for getting the job done.

Love your mini. I just finished a 9 month long restoration on my '65 Mk1 mini. Did cheat and use already pressed panels, replaced about 70% of the metal on the body by the time I was done. Great work, keep it up.

Super! Thanks for all the super tips and inspiration you give us! I myself have a GT-69 that hangs in a cradle so I recognize every single metal detail. Really nice job you do. Funny to see how different they rust on the different panels..Guess you're from Finland? I myself live in southern Sweden.. Fight on...

Hi, Thanks for the comment. It is very rewarding to hear that my channel is beneficial for someone, especially to give further inspiration for someones own projects. Yes, Opel GTs are very prone to rust, and one could say that even good looking GTs might have some secrets inside the sealed body compartments..Do you have your project in any social media? And yes, I am located in southern Finland.

You did a great job shaping these patch panels for the fender! But what about welding them in - or do you think the tacks are good enough?
@GT1900garage
@GT1900garage Жыл бұрын
Oh no, they will be welded 100%. This is just tack welds for alignment..final welds done when fender is complete and sits well.
@tunichtgut5285
@tunichtgut5285 Жыл бұрын
@@GT1900garage I hope you don't get too much heat distortion. Have you thought about MIG brazing with CuSi3 wire? Much less heat distortion, nice soft weld seam, easy to grind or file down and it can be worked with hammer and dolly. This spot might be perfect for this technique because it is non-structural.
