This tutorial shows step by step, how I draw an eye. I break up this eye drawing into 5 steps: layin, 2 values, full value / dark accents, halftones and highlight, cleanup edges and shapes.

The effect can be just as great with any pencil, but a graphite pencil will take longer to shade. With this charcoal pencil I can indicate gradations instantly. With graphite you have to slowly build up the gradations if you want them clean.

Can you please tell me the model and brand of your charcoal pencil? And can you please make a tutorial about graphite smooth shading? Thanks much Proko.

One thing this "drawing head" series doesn't teach you here is line ghosting - it's mostly a technical knowledge set of videos, so it wouldn't have covered it anyway. Line ghosting is a fantastic technique where you sort of "ghost" the line before you draw it, look up some videos on it, or go to drawabox.com. It focuses on improving your muscle memory and getting used to imagining the line you draw before you draw it, and once you get used to it, and drawing with your arm, you'll be able to make lines like this easier than you think.

ya, usually you can't see the curl of the bottom lashes (sometimes). I usually indicate them with a darker area for the entire group of lashes.

Before watching this video I was drawing just to get a feeling with lines and stuff (first time trying to draw 2d seriously, I'm learning 3d modeling atm) and my drawing has always been bad, but for some reason I noticed I'm quite comfortable working on 3D. After watching this video I know why. It is not that I can't draw lines for saving my life, I just lack anatomy knowledge and the ability to translate irl 3d objects to 2d on paper. I listened carefully to Proko and put an effort to make the eye as shown and... ! I can't believe I have just draw a decent eye! I'm impressed with myself. I know I can definitely improve and draw better lines and learn proportion a bit more but I'm so glad I found your channel, thank you sir.

I love your tutorials. I've gotten so much better by watching them. One question I was having after watching your two eye videos is, these are awesome if you're drawing an up-close of the eye. But do you have a video or tips for how to make it smaller in the sense of fitting it into the face? It seems as if that would require either drawing everything really small or needing to know how to condense it.

focus on the form and try to imitate it. Don't use rulers because unless you're drawing the direct front things will be at an angle so you shouldn't use rulers because they'll trick you and mess up the face

Joseph Bauyon you should work at both eyes at the same time draw things equally the most mistake beginners make is drawing one side, finishing it and then starting with the other you should draw the face as a whole develop every part a little

I find the best way to make the eyes pretty much the same is to draw them both at the same time comparing in every step of the process instead of completely drawing one eye and then try to replicate it.
