Hi. My name is Jake and I believe that salt has a place in every game of Magic the Gathering. I think it's great that people get so involved in the game and their own deck's strategy that they feel personally attacked when things go wrong. The real trick is finding a balance between interaction and oppressive gameplay. If you have thoughts on the proper amount of salt to dissolve in a game pull up a chair, have a seat at the table, and let's talk games.

A bit of salt can make sweet things taste sweeter... Also, this is such a feel-good channel. I love every video so far. I especially love how fair you are to every aspect of the game. And you seem to speak from a position of experience, which I really appreciate because in my limited experience with the game I tend to be really biased in my attitude towards some of its aspects.

Thanks, I really appreciate it. All I want is for more people to play and enjoy the game in all its forms. I’m glad you’re enjoying it!

I play a Mogis/Enchantment deck that funnels into Jokulhaups as a win condition. I accept that I am arch-enemy when playing it.

That sounds pretty sweet. I love enchantment heavy decks that aren’t standard gw shenanigans.

The thing is: If i cast my Death Cloud and someone removes my payoff in response (Waste Not for example), I've brought the game into this "unfun" status. I didn't progressed the game.

Well it sounds like it's your turn to be a little salty and blame everything that goes wrong for the next couple of days on that person. "Hey I stubbed my toe because you got rid of my Waste Not." It not perfect system.

Same. My personal pet peeve is counter magic….putting 3-5 counter spells in a deck to stop a threat idc about and is necessary but if half the deck is counter magic then it’s a no go.

Totally fair. I had a friend back in the day that we called "counter buddy" because he would just relentlessly "king-make" and only allow one person at the table to cast their spells which would inevitably lead to their win. Made for some very frustrating games. That said, if it was also powering out Talrand's drake tokens I would have felt better about it...

@@TheFirstJake yea, the only thing I try to do is 1). Rally the table 2). Hold cards 3). Burn the player out by casting cheap diversion spells then go infinite to obliterate them then stop to allow the rest of the players to break the combo and continue playing. 4). Generally the same player gets salty over Infinites which leads to the final phase 5). Take said salt and rub it into the wound with relentless shit talking about they have no brewing skills and can’t create anything past stopping everyone else and to go try that stuff at the cedh table. Doesn’t always end like that but very satisfying when it does. If they stay then I’ll just scoop and find another table. Nbd….im not bound to that 1 table. The overarching theme I think applies to many things in life which is “it’s inherently beneficial IF used in moderation”.

Counter spells are necessary and as a blue player I don't agree with the idea of not maximizing your interaction package. However, even if I'm running 10+ counter spells, I literally only ever use them to stop game winning plays or people interfering with my board. I would never stop someone from progressing their own gameplan as long as it won't ruin or end mine.

@@riznix9237 totally valid when used in a constructive manner such as stopping a wincon however many do not and instead seek to counter even building a board state much less a win condition. Typically from my experiences the best example that comes to mind is when these effects are stapled onto creatures that are bounced back and recast.
