I work as a medical interpreter remotely while studying psychology (currently a senior) and Microbiology (currently in my sophomore year). So I have a stable job, studying in two field that I really love. After Psychology I intend to go to law... The variety is an enriching experience.

8:21 no... Its completely true...!! Even I have heard many people say that the subjects we study in Medical Microbiology are a bit same as those which a student would study in his undergrad med school... So its a better option to become a doctor (post graduation if u want) coz the time taken to complete msc in medical microbiology is nearly same as that of a doctor (taking with an indian perspective... Coz a student can practice as a doctor after his 5.5 year graduation and 3 years of Masters in medicine(its Residency in US) )

Even if the Thai government wants to employ you (a Thai citizen with a PhD in microbiology) as a microbiologist researcher, wait, they still have to consider hiring an astronomer, a physicist, a chemist, a biochemist, a cell biologist, an ecologist, etc...on their payroll and what makes you think that a microbiologist is at very top on their list.

I totally agree, you said just what I thought as I listenied to Oliver. I did a mundane job but it paid well so that I could properly fund several hobbies, microscopy being one of them. There is a massive difference between a job and a serious hobby. In your hobby you are the boss and if you make a mistake you cannot be fired. You also set your own hours. No you can't afford the specialist equipment but you can in many cases as Oliver has shown build your own and have fun doing it (I made my own centrifuge only last year).

Well for one thing it's probably a lot cheaper to live, being a lot smaller than a biologist.

Oh!! I want to thank you!!! This was the exact thing I wanted..I had planned to be a vet. and help stary animals and make people conscious about loving animals and all beings of nature... But few days ago, out of no where I thought of being a scientist... I started to dream about IISC and IISER(topmost research colleges in india) I was very anxious... Distressed with this new idea... But now... U solved my problem oliver!! God used u as a meadiatrix to help me!!😢 I am now happy and made a steady choice to become a Vet and inspire others to love the creation of nature and the hidden divinity in all beings!! Ooo.. Thank you again...🙏🙏🙏

Better to be a medical doctor, a dentist or a pharmacist. A microbiologist is a scientist's job. Your employer or your boss is the government. The government decides if they want to nurture your research and academic career. So if you are a Thai citizen and you want to be a microbiologist, you better hope the Thai government will create a scientist's job for you, do not expect to become a microbiologist in Indonesia, Canada, Australia, etc. These countries have their own microbiologists to take care of.

Or you could study mechanical or optical engineering, start a company building microscopes and set up a microbiology research division for testing your products and then hang out there with your employees and have them train you
