What is Sea Moss Good for?
Sea moss, otherwise known as Chondrus crispus, is a type of algae or seaweed, that grows along the Atlantic coasts, primarily between North America and Europe. It can grow in a number of different colors, green, yellow, purple, brown, or black, depending on the climate and temperature.
Benefits of Sea Moss
Like other seaweeds in the algae family, sea moss does have impressive natural benefits. It is low in calories, fat and sugar, has a little bit of protein, and is packed with vitamins and minerals.
Sea Moss for Hair Growth, Regrowth, Thinning, and Shedding
Now the data on this is scarce and mostly anecdotal, but purported to work because its so rich in minerals, vitamins, and antioxidants that it can nourish the hair and scalp. It's also a natural conditioner that can help to soften and moisturize the hair, reducing the breakage.
How to Use Sea Moss for Hair?
Dividing your hair into several sections using a wide-toothed comb, and then apply the sea moss generously until it covers all your hair strands and the scalp too. A compound called fucoxanthin, was able to increase UCP1, which is your mitochondrial uncoupling protein 1, which you find in brown fat, which is responsible to stop fat accumulation, well, the results showed us that fucoxanthin upregulates the expression of UCP1 in White adipose tissue, which may contribute to reducing White adipose tissue weight.

The Role of Sea Moss on Thyroid
Now we have data that low level seaweed supplementation improves iodine status in iodine insufficient women from 2014. While sea moss has a good source of iodine, the iodine content can be highly variable. I would like to in the future see how much iodine is measured in the product labeling, but until then, the risk of overconsumption of iodine does remain, and we know that too much iodine can lead to an underactive thyroid. Because it’s not unusual for a single serving or dose to contain 300% or more of your daily requirement of iodine.
Which Seamoss is the Best?
Seaweed is known to absorb and store heavy metals in high amounts. Its important to know which body of water your sea moss is coming from. So a good way to get around this is: Ensure the company you purchase sea moss from can prove it is free of heavy metals.

Just made my first batch tonight. I put it in my hair as a conditioner for the first time too. It’s like butter. My strands are silky smooth. I’m already taking the seamoss supplement from a brand called Natuspur. It’s a relatively cheaper brand, but it helped my overall health and skin appearance. My hip stopped hurting that was randomly bothering me. My heartburn went away. I had increased my magnesium at the same time, but the seamoss along with my magnesium glycinate and citrate are a powerhouse combination for me to focus and feel good. I also changed some poor eating patterns. Mainly cutting out sugar altogether. Thank you for reminding us of alll the huge benefits. Seamoss really is impressive. I’m sticking by it! ♥️

@@ArsalanAspires My heartburn immediately. Within a couple of days, my Leg cramps were gone. Skin results, I started noticing a different glow and radiance after about three or four weeks. I thought it was my new skin cleanser, but when I stopped or forgot to take it, my more radiant glow kinda went with it. It’s really insane how all of those minerals absorbed into the body bring out the inner beauty. I’ve also increased my zinc intake.

I tried it, with the recommended amount. It really gave me bad headaches everytime I ate it, so I had to stop. I'll try it on my hair and skin and see 🤷🏽‍♀️

I think all in all it’s just not worth trusting Sea Moss with the heavy metal and iodine toxicity.. But if you can actually find a third party tested and verified supplement brand that eliminates these problematic issues then go for it… Just make sure they do this testing on a regular basis..

What about checking PUBMED and NIH ? These are all accessible to everyone and as a doc, you, Dr. Should be able to easily understand med terms if used. And you may want to check that Carageenan is from sea moss. That can be an issue when it's processed.

Im afraid to take it internally 😂. I will defo try using it tooically on my scalp for the hair benefits. Thank you for the tip. I really wanted to use something like aloe vera but it makes my skin itch so much even after draining the latex from it and washing many times. So sea moss it is. ❤

Just started a irish sea moss regimen. Just wondering if it may be too much iodine on your hair since it can be absorbed into your brain. So far I love the benefits of sea moss.

Add a drop of peppermint oil or lemon oil to your batch for smell and add more water for potency. It’s not enough iodine to penetrate the 🧠. You’d have to use a wholeeee lot. Consume rather. I’m not a board certified anything, just my take and experience with it and feedback from others.
