These profiles are awesome and they perform exactly as described. I find the new Ellipse to be incredible. For me much more agile than the Quad and I loved the Quade but the agility of the ellipse is real and its very balanced. Incredible how seamless the transitions are. Im skating a long long time. I'm an instructor here in new york so I have the experience to understand. When your radius is right your body mechanics are truly unlocked, head shoulders balance etc all one

What could you suggest it feel like to go from quad 0 to quad 1? I really like quad 0 on my size 9 skates but looks like your recommendation is quad 1 for that size.

So I got my first skate profile done yesterday. I'd been skating on 12 year old skates with a 100/50 cut, always been a fast skater, play defense. I put the new skates/blades and tried them yesterday and literally felt like the back was sliding out under me. They recommended going a bit more shallow on the cut for the first try, but I had to change out and put on my old skates just to be able to move effectively at all. It felt like I had absolutely a smooth blade and just sliding. Any thoughts on if they may have just cut it wrong, or is this just first time issues lol

hello I just bought my son a new set of blades for his skates (size 3 bauer vapor) He is a 12 year old 85 pound centerman and covers lots of ice. I was told to get the Quad Zero ??? After reading and watching the videos, it looks like the quad zero is only meant for skates size 7-9 or larger??? will it still work on a size 3 skate? or should i return the blades and have them re-profiled. It looks like they should have did the quad XXS ? My son tried them yesterday and said he didn't notice anything different in his skating abilities. I appreciate your feedback.

Hey guys, 6 months ago I picked up some new steel for my Grafs and this is my first time ever using profiled blades ( at the age of 44 ) and I love it. I am a decent skater and I am currently using an Ellipse 1 on my 288 Step steel. I LOVE the feeling in the middle and rear portions of the profile while playing. However, when i really need some jump in my first couple steps to accelerate, I feel like the front 1/3 of the blades feel "long". It feels like I have a little too much steel ( or too big of a radius ) in that area. I feel like i have to really concentrate or try hard to get on my toes with my first couple power strides. Would moving down to an Ellipse 0 or a Quad 1 be more beneficial for me? Like I said, i love the middle and rear portions of the Ellipse 1 and I have never felt more stable on my skates in my life. It has definitely made me a better skater, but i feel like the front 1/3 is the missing piece to making it perfect. Thoughts?

Thanks for you feedback and detailed description, Lee. As skates are to be profiled around 70% of the steel length I'm wondering how your steel are "blended" in after the profile has been done. If they are not adequately blended to match the profile (the curvature in toe section) there most likely will be proportionately more steel in front area which can cause feeling that you're describing. Other case may be if there is "crater" in steel due to poor blend in process that can cause the feeling that front section off steel has too long ice contact. In other words if this is the case you would want to address this issue first. Please let us know if this may be the case but if not we can think other scenarios that may cause the issue?

Hi! No, there is no Zuperior profiles with those radii combinations. Here's the complete list of Prosharp Profiles: www.prosharp.eu/pub_docs/files/profile_template_list_2020-21.pdf

I have my Bauer 3s skates, size 9 so the runner would be 280mm. The blades feel too far back for my preference and I wear a fit 3 due to having wide feet. I feel like I'm constantly on my heels and turning and transitioning backwards to forwards and vice versa I have to over compensate on my legs and knees for balance and stability. I'm a bigger dude just above 250lb, I was 330 but I'm losing weight via diet and exercise for health reasons and also primarily to play hockey again since I played over 10 years, my goal is to get to 200lb. I have strong legs and do a lot of strength training, especially my legs including barbell squats and deadlifts. I find that the standard 1/2 radius digs in too much for me and I can easily push more due to my size and leg strength. I like the 5/8 but am thinking of 3/4 radius. I was wondering what profile you'd recommend? My Bauer skates came with the LS+ I think, so their standard blades because it wasn't a 3s pro or 3s ultra or whatever. I want to feel more stability, more pitch forward to have a more natural stance. When I skate I like to move my feet quickly to get up to speed and either move my feet quickly with a good knee bend or usually slower and focus on stronger and longer leg extensions to maximize my leg strength. Do you have a preference on what profile I should try? And if I did that profile in a 5/8 radius as an example, does that mean I couldn't switch to a 3/4 with the same runner with whatever profile it's set to? Just curious. I've been skating since I was a little kid, and even though I haven't played hockey in years I know how my skates feel vastly different now from that when I was a kid playing from 1994 to 2005. I want to maximize my stability, length strength while having good glide and be able to transition and stop when needed with better ease. I usually play defense so being able to have that transition in stances is very important. Thanks guys!

For you I would likely go with the Quad Radius Profile being a D man.. it will help you the most with transitions. As far as the Hollow you can start with a 5/8 and then change it up to a 3/4 once you are fully comfortable and used to the new radius…

How often would you need to profile the steel? Will do it once last the life of the steel?
@ProsharpWorld
@ProsharpWorld 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Jonathan! This really depends on how your skates get sharpened. Automatic machines and very experienced sharpening technicians are able to maintain the profile fairly long time. On the other hand, poor sharpening may ruin the profile after one sharpening. For recreational skaters it is recommended that you profile skates once each season. However, if you sharpen your skates for example weekly it might be smart to profile them twice or three times per season.

Maintaining your steel well can help extend the retention of your profile too! If they get all rusty over the offseason, your friendly neighborhood sharpener might have to grind out large groups of divots (when the blade gets all pitted) - which can be caused by the rust - in order to get a good edge on your blades. Similarly, if your skates are dropped on or you step on (while wearing them) metal/concrete/asphalt without skate guards on, some steel might need to be ground off in order to put a proper edge back on it. Removing extra steel is often at the discretion of the skater. But experienced sharpening technicians (such as yours truly) will have developed good instincts as to whether or not the extra grinding is necessary. What I like to do is approach the skate owner to discuss the issue & inform them of my recommendation so they can make the final call. That way everyone leaves happy with the result of the sharpening... unless they don't follow my recommendation & end up slipping all over the place afterwards because of it... but at least they can't say I didn't warn them! 🤷‍♂️ If these things happen with any frequency, the blade will inevitably lose the shape of its profile & you'll probably need to reprofile.

@@ProsharpWorld "For recreational skaters it is recommended that you profile skates once each season. However, if you sharpen your skates for example weekly it might be smart to profile them twice or three times per season." My local shop has a Prosharp AS 1001, would the above recommendation still apply if I get my skates sharpened with one of your own automatic machines? I saw one of your videos here on youtube where you did 250 cycles and it still maintained the profile.

I’m a big prosharp fan, I have your home machine and have experimented with different profiles you offer too. This video is helpful but also confusing. When describing your Agility series you guys mentioned that common feedback was essentially that players felt it’s good for acceleration but not great for turning. That was mentioned again at the end of the video in reference to the pro player switching out of zuperior. Then you said that players using the Power series can turn better compared to Agility. While describing the Power series you said there was more blade contact with the ice compared to the zuperior, but when you look at the radius numbers (and the player feedback) I can’t help conclude its exactly the opposite. Having the very flat last two thirds on the Agility line makes it much harder to turn because when turning, weight is shifted slightly to the heels, so with the Agility line you end up with much more blade contact when trying to turn compared to the Power series, which is why you’re getting that player feedback. I skated on the Quad 0 for a couple years but ended up going back to a 9/10 because even the quad 0 felt too “stuck in the mud” when turning sharply due to the 11’ and 13’ on the back half of the blade. Not sure you’ll agree with me but I’m a full time skills coach and I’ve put a lot of study into small details of skating mechanics, and turning/edgework is done slightly towards the heel of the blade. In my mind the Agility and Power names are backwards for the categories due to the amount of blade contact/flatness of the larger radius numbers. Definitionally Agility means the ability to change directions quickly. I’m very interested to try your Ellipse ones though.
