Protecting My Chickens From Cold Weather!

Record low temperatures in South Africa this July. In fact, at least 19 low temperature records were broken. This is a problem if you have livestock out in the elements. In this video I prepare to save my chickens and knock together a shelter for the animals to take refuge from the 90kph icy winds!

Thanks Dale - yeah man, absolutely freezing! We ended up losing about 3 chickens. But the WIND! My Word!

Great video, Dale. Keep'em coming. QQ for you. My wife and I recently relocated to Johannesburg from the states. Winter is kicking our butts here, mainly due to housing insulation (lack thereof). We have electric heaters and two fireplaces in the house. Any other recommendations for keeping the house warm?

Thanks Charles! Welcome to SA! Winter in JNB can be brutal but it doesn't last too long. In SA the houses are almost completely set up for warm weather so it's more a case of keeping yourself warm rather than heating the house unfortunately. The place my wife and I find the toughest to deal with is getting into an ice cold bed at night, so we use fitted electric warming blankets which go under the bottom sheet. It works a treat. Sorry I don't have anything more for you but winter is almost over already :)
