Thank you for this video and all the others. I have "binge-watched" them all. I am a very methodical crafter and appreciate your detailed information. My mother-in-law taught me to work with pressed flowers about 25 years ago. She used laminating exclusively for her pressed flower greeting cards and so that I all I knew. When she passed, no one wanted any of her craft stuff or all the boxes and boxes of pressed flowers. I was asked and gratefully accepted them. I was particularly interested in your color enhancing, since many of these beautiful blooms have faded with age. I would love to see a color enhancing video of your current process with that. Thanks again, you have revived my determination to get back into working with pressed flowers. Sharon.

I personally like all the extra info, in this subject anyway as I have grown and pressed flowers and developed my own way of preserving. I also like you name all the flowers while talking about them. I’m not that chatty and a bit shy but get me started on some of my hobbies, which is actually mainly sewing, my videos would be 3 hours long. This video gives me ideas though. I saved old stationary I had made like 20 years ago for a long ago address. But the paper is nice and looks like homemade paper similar to that but pink. I have almost a ream. I so far have just been laminating my pressed flowers but you give me ideas to make cards and tags from it.

Hi Em, I was watching one of your other videos about drying and you said that you dry for a couple of days, then air the flowers and greenery for a couple of hours, and then press them again with fresh paper and books, repeating the process because it has a better effect on the drying process. How many times should I repeat the changing process? How long before the plants are completely dry? I am new to all of this.

Hi Em, I enjoy learning all this with you... thanks for passing to us your knowledge. Here my question: what product would you use to glue/seal flower on a wood piece?
@emsplace
@emsplace 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, well when I want the wood to stay natural looking I coat it first with a matte medium to seal some of the pours before applying the flowers. Even a clear gesso would work for that. Then I use a matte medium like Mod Podge or any adhesive such as that as glue - either by putting on the treated wood and laying down the flowers, or putting on the back of the botanical and then laying on the wood. Let it dry before putting a top coat on to protect your arrangement. Play around and see what works best for you:-)

Hi, in regard to changing color, all flowers mellow or fade over time. I mostly press flowers that I have learned over time are good color keepers. Having said that, they should not be displayed in sunlight. You can also color enhance some botanicals for longer term display. I have playlists that go into details on many subjects. www.youtube.com/@emsplace/playlists You may be especially interested in the color enhancing one, and the how to protect flowers videos. I’m wondering if this would work on cement? I make cement trays and would love to adhere pressed flowers to them
@emsplace
@emsplace 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, I am thinking it may depend upon how grainy the cement is. Some cements have a smoother texture. Yes, I think it would work, but would seal the cement first with a medium, for example matte medium or such. I would then put the flowers down using a wet medium technique. Play around and see what happens with a test piece of cement. Thank you for watching, Em

Hi, check out my playlist for color enhancement kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rJOSoN11yde-c6M.html that may give you some ideas. Watercolor is too wet, IMHO unless you can dilute the pigment with rubbing alcohol (I use a 70%). Generally I use translucent fabric paint/dye or alcohol inks. Just keep in mind that alcohol inks and solvent based paint/markers my bleed under sicky adhesive covers like contact paper or packing tape, or in resin. So in that case a water based paint works better and can still be thinned with rubbing alcohol. Just test that the rubbing alcohol does not curdle the paint. Most paints work fine, but some have been reported to me from a couple of viewers that the brand of paint they had didn't work well with the rubbing alcohol. Thank you for watching, Em

@emsplace
@emsplace 4 жыл бұрын
Hi, sadly nothing last forever. The protective color will help them last longer. Otherwise it just depends upon the botanical. Some hold color for a really long time, and other fade faster. Also, keep them out of direct sunlight. The darker they are kept, the longer color lasts. I also have a color enhancement playlist for people that may want to play around with the idea kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rJOSoN11yde-c6M.html Thank you for watching:-)

I felt this video was difficult to watch. It was much much too long and the conductor repeated unimportant sentences on several occasions. I thought this was a comparative video and it was actually an instructive one. I wanted to know about the 2 products as the title implied. The video was not visually appealing and had her whole hands in the shots often and that was a huge distraction. This video was not targeted for the general crafting population because she referred to journal and tag makers throughout. I never got an idea of the comparisons.

Thanks for making this. It's a shame such good information doesn't get more views , have you thought about certain ways you can make your video better? 11:00 into the video is when you ACTUALLY start the process, do you really need to spend 11 mins talking about the supplies? How about having a list and just put the camera on it for 30 sec is more than enough. Other ways you can eliminate what I call " commericial time". When I say commericial time, what i mean is when you watch a tv program the stuff you don't want to see or hear, which you fast forward through. The more " commericial material" you have the less appealing your videos are, the more interuptions and fast forwarding we have to do, the more the viewing process becomes a fun learning session but stuff we just want to block out like commericials. Things like, describing the fact that you put mod podge and collage podge on minature bottle,(it's pretty self explainatory) we REALLY don't need to hear about, not only is it unnecessary narrations we just block out, it makes your videos unneccessarily long . Each unneccessary narration becomes like the rapid talking at the end of a drug commericial ( where they list all the side effects& dangers), not to mention I watchall your videos in twice speed ( I would watch it in 10'x the speed if I was given the option) always because it's way too slow, it just sounds like really annoying chipmunks rantings! In fact, most of the things you pause to talk about in the 11 mins before the making process starts ( which is the ONLY thing we're really interested in seeing) is pretty self explaintory. We don't need to know WHY you get label backing paper, keep your videos short, precise to the point without unneccesary narration would certainty increase the appeal of your videos. Again, I commend your artistry skills your work is beautiful, your tutorials can use a bit of trimming/ condensing . It's too bad at times, when this happens, I always end up unsubscribing in the long run when I can tolerate irrelevant chipmunk ranting no more. I really hope for a change in this channel since it's one of the few ones that is done by someone like yourself that ACTUALLY is a professional flower presser, that knows what she's doing, but the videos are a real turn off.
@emsplace
@emsplace 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Vikki, I understand your perspective and you offer many good suggestions. This is a battle I have with myself often. I know my videos get long since I am a detail person and editing to the bare bones is really difficult. That is for many reasons, not the least of which is because I personally enjoy hearing peoples thought processes on KZfaq videos, and don’t personally mind scrubbing the time line if I am in a hurry and/or want to cut to the chase. But when I want the details, always appreciate it when it is there or included. Over time too, I have had people say I wish your videos were more condensed, while others have said how much they really like the details and sharing of the thought process. While I am always looking for ways to improve the channel, I admit that often I simply turn on the camera and film without a lot of pre-planning, because otherwise, many/most videos would never happen. The editing of videos is very time consuming and another variable to factor in to the process. I have tried to keep my channel free of ads and commercialism, but should I get more professional in the venture that may need to change? I actually plan to do more videos in “live” mode where there will be no editing, since that way it goes right to KZfaq and cuts out that middle process. So for that, the condensed version with my teaching and information style my not appeal to everyone. Maybe for “live” filming I will break them in into smaller bits, or make a subject a series to cut down on length - therefore someone only needs to watch the segment of interest. I will see how this all plays out. In the long run, future videos may be a combination of some “live” and some edited. I may also try to do some voice overs and speed up some of the slower process parts, but the problem with that is many thoughts enter my mind as I work in real time, and in that case the viewer who wants to hear my thought process would miss out. All in all, I have a regular business to run and this is a side venture to share information as time allows. I would love to hear feedback from others too about what people would like to see - or if the longer videos that include real time narration and the thought process is pro or con. Appreciate the feedback and thanks for watching, Em Others care to comment or make constructive suggestions?

@Vikki L. Y. You’re advising on brevity while your comment was so wordy and unnecessary. You say “we” and not everyone perceives things as you do. I appreciate her length and detail, it reduces our mistakes and guesswork. If you need to fast forward, then look for info you need and skip the rest. Don’t tell her to omit details for everyone just because you are inpatient or unable to concentrate. Additionally, you have no idea what her intentions are, don’t attempt to advise her with your unfounded opinion on how to be the perfect KZfaq star by making her videos rushed. She is sharing her wonderful artistry peacefully, thoroughly, and freely. Polite and humble constructive criticism can be helpful, but not by ranting rude, self-righteous standpoints that negatively discourage someone from doing things by their own creative teaching process.
