Netting really helped me after I failed to do any pest control the previous year. Animals keep trying to eat my carrots, and collards.

I had geese come in and stromped eat the melon leaves stromped the the vines! Friend said to string or metal wire ground up 6 inches and again at 15 inches up i haven't had a problem since with geese, now racoons eat my 16 cantalope never touch the watermelons yet! Weird!

Once your melons are big, nothing is getting pollinated anymore, so no.

You said that you use whatever material you have available. Are you concerned at all about shading your plants too much? I have shade cloth and Agribond available. The shade cloth is sturdier but I'm wondering if it would shade the plants too much. Thanks for the video!
