I continue to prune and refine my "Clip and Grow" Garden Juniper that I got from Joey. I also look back to see the tree last year.

Beautiful trunk. My Junipers seem to keep their smooth and youthful trunks forever.

Definitely getting better and better each year! Such a wonderful project, Nigel. It is so cool to see a juniper be developed from the clip and grow method. Thank you for sharing!

Great looking tree Nigel. The back of the tree looks equally as nice as the front, maybe even better.

Great detail pruning Nigel, we can all learn from the technic you apply, that hanging branch you talked about, I was glad you kept it, the branch adds to the tree look. A lot of bonsai stylists wouldn’t spend as much time working on one small tree like yours, wire would be applied to help to for the wind swept look you are creating, I have a couple very much the same size and style as yours, the difference is I have used some wire to achieve the same result. Joe.

I like 25:45 better as the front - it shows the curve of the trunk better and is less angular. The symmetry between the main trunk and the flowing branch is more pronounced there, and the three branches of the flowing branch are open-faced from that side, whereas from the other side it looks like all those branches obscure one another. I like trees like this that are allowed to grow (somewhat) normally and aren’t manicured to perfection - they’re more interesting to look at.

Interesting, I suggested a similar front at 25:42. The current front looks a bit too two-dimensional for me as the tree only grows to the right (which fits with the wind-blown part tbf)

Yes, that looks awesome!!!

I think I quite like the view at 25:42 as a possible new front (close to one corner of the pot), it gives a bit more of an older tree feeling compared to the current front has this very long part in the middle where no shoots/branches are coming out of. That's covered a bit more with the foliage at 25:42, imo. Just a suggestion! I'm sure once many of the shoots start getting some bark on it (most haven't yet on the top and the "beginning" of the trunk" it'll give a totally different vibe anyway so by the end of summer my comment might be outdated already, who knows

Sir have you uploaded a video on why you don’t use wire or guide wires?
@bpcobrian92
@bpcobrian92 2 ай бұрын
I’ve watched hundreds of this mans videos, and I’m not sure there’s one video dedicated to him talking about that. I have however heard him briefly talk about his philosophy, and how he believes clip and grow creates a more natural looking tree. He’s also mentioned the additional expenses involved with using wire. There has been only once I’ve seen him use a single piece of wire on a tree, and perhaps one or two times using guide wire.

He has uploaded a specific video about it here but he's talking about his reasons in basically every other video anyway kzfaq.info/get/bejne/j62YhM2A0secl4U.html He doesn't like the marks those wires leave behind and often bending the branches e.g. just to fill out one specific spot takes away of the specie's' natural characteristics (if it's bend in a way how the species wouldn't usually grow). Also, it's an additional expense and IIRC the environmental aspect of manufacturing the wire was also an additional argument for him, though I'm not sure about that last bit.
