Really a genius... I can understand what he's talking about from theoretical point of view since I'm an Electronic Engineer, but I could never dream of building something like what he did.. Truly amazing...

Great video; it was good listening to Ted , he really explained very clearly how digital to audio processing works on your C.D player or your P.C and all problems to get to near perfect audio.

I'm in my mid fifties and in my early twenties I worked a second night job at a mental health facility (nuthouse). For some reason watching this guy brings back a lot of memories from those days!

DSD is by far the best format. Insanely stunning realism of sound reproduction.

Well that was interesting. Not my engineering expertise at all. But I admire this engineer's knowledge and passion. With new technology, comes new problems that need to be solved. Glad there is interest in making standard CDs sound as good as they can, as well, since there are gazillions of them out there. I can learn a thing or ten from this guy!!!!

Real question. How different sounding is this compared to my Fiio M11 Pro which also has "All to DSD" mode (Kills battery btw) and also has THX implemented into it?

Hope someone will read this 5 years after the thread was started. Now in 2019 we have Zilinx chips better then the 2013 era used in PS Direct Stream. So the questions that follow are all related to the difference between PS and Chord. The Cord M Scaler uses a much bigger Zilinx. PS never uses the word "Taps" in its description of is use of its FPGA. In fact PS chief engineer says PS uses the FPGA for its conversion of PCM to DSD. Is that all? Chord doesn't really say what the Taps are for. So the question is does the Direct Stream need more Tips to compete with Chord? Chord seems to say Tap number is directly related to SQ. PS Audio says new filter soltware improves SQ. They can both be right so I'm not trying to throw stones. The engineering question is what are the taps used for in the signal path? Low pass filtering, PCM to DSD translation or other things. Could the Direct Stream benefit from a "million taps" that seems to be Chord's holy grail.

Chord is thousand times better than DS, according to measurements. DS is probably more BS than rest of BS in PS audio combined.

This looks like it could be an amazing product. I've been hesitating buying a headphone amp and DAC ever since purchasing my Audeze LCD-3 a few months ago. I've never seen anything that seemed to fit all my needs and provide top notch sound quality and future proofing for DSD playback. Have had my eye on Chord Hugo but not entirely convinced yet. The Ayre Acoustics QB-9 DSD looks great but with only USB input for a £2500 product? Hmmm ... I shall be patient and wait for the PS DirectStream DAC's release and hope that this will be my end game product for use with headphones and in my main system too.

That was AWESOME !!! 100% understood everything Ted described. I have a much better appreciation of why different DAC's sound different. #1 take away. "Jitter" is the enemy because it creates small phase changes in the output signal and humans are extremely sensitive to phase information.

Ted: Have you blindtested the audibility of jitter?
@brianbauer3148 Жыл бұрын
I have a DSD tascam recorder. It is a good format but just didn't win. I recorded a crappy keyboard for a play rehearsal once and was floored by the quality of the 1/4" Jack on the recording. I also wonder why these " Audiophiles" can never get good live sound. 🤔

This is all well and good but I was just looking for an AM clock radio to listen to the news on.
Hi Paul! Do you have intention of licensing this new technology to some other audio manufacturers? You said it was a game changer, is it across the board or just in a specific price range? Can it outshine the most expensive DAC on the market? I know I am putting you on the spot here ;-)
@DodgyBrothersEngineering8 жыл бұрын
I can't work out if Ted needs to cut back on the coffee or if his brain simply works at a million miles an hour and has so much information kicking around up there that he has trouble getting it out. I suspect some of it is nerves, but he seems like one really switched on dude.
