PS2 slim models, what's different? (7000 vrs 9000)

These are the differences between the ps2 slim 7000 and 9000 models.
The power supply is the main difference. 9000 has an internal power supply.
Also the ventilation and matted vrs glossy top of the console.

7000 you can power in any region with that power supply, you can also buy a European 7000 Slim PS2 and it will work safely on the US power grid. Only the 7000 models are universal for different regions power.

I've left my 70001 on for obscene amounts of time and it has never overheated (like up to 17 hours)

@@SK91NOEvery version of the PS2 is nice. I have all three models and I'm happy with them. The difference is mostly aesthetic. The slim if you like the look of it, and if you don't want the big box power cable don't get the 9000.

Also some people just like the original fat PS2 because of its hard drive tray and disc drive that pops out. That makes total sense. I like the slim a little more just because it looks cool, should be more reliable and takes up very little space.

I own a 9000, and it's still in very good condition. I've had it since shortly after its release date (I was not even born), and despite years of me using it as a kid without knowing how to handle it carefully, it has held up well. I even had it positioned vertically without using any stand, lol.

The PS2 70000 series was the last to have the MIPS R3000 there for PS1 backwards compatibility, it's not full hardware as there's no GTE but it has everything else The 75000 series and later replaced this with a different chip that's pure emulation and that introduced some compatibility issues with a small number of PS1 and even PS2 games. If you also hate yourself the 70000 series has a truncated network adaptor in it so if you're comfortable with soldering in 40 wires you can gain back the IDE HDD support

The best version is the 70012. It has original PS1 hardware and two internet ports provided. 1 for landline (useless I know but its included) and the 2nd with an ethernet port. The rest of the other were just stripped out and butchered

I have a 90001 myself i had a 70001 before When ever i put a game in it u could hear the lid buzzing I tightened it and everything then I returned it and got the 90001 and i love it been thinking of doing a clear shell swap on mine

Never knew there was a different version. The 9 also looks like it has smaller USB and lacks a vent on the front. I think the 7 looks better. 9 looks cheaper Does the PS badge rotate on the 9?

But if there is a power supply problem in the 9000 it’s much easier to change up the outer power supply of a 7000

That's true. I'm still a bigger fan of the internal power supply, just for the lack of the giant box aesthetic. But that is sound logic. I have heard of the external boxes going bad, but whichever one lasts longer is probably the best function over fourm option. 🤔

I have a barely used 9000 version that does not boot up. There are no repair shops nearby and no one wants to buy one. I have had such great memories with it. It feels bad to have it eating dust on the shelf.

People are forgetting the 9000 lost its backwards compatbility with ps1 games and alot of ps2 games dont work on it

The Slim boys scratch disks though. I know there are fixes but no one knows about it until you see scratches on your disks 😢😢

The 700xx are the ultimate version, they have all thr ps1 components inside, so you get 100% compatibility with ps1, and sony left out IDE circuitry inside, if youre skilled you can solder 39 wires in various places on the IDE circuit you could add a micro SD to the 700xx and play games trough HD like you would on a FAT ps2, you dont even need to trim the case for this mod if youre skilled enough

bro i have the 7000 slim passed down from my sisters , I have been using it a lot more recently just because i found some of my old ps2 games i bought for it , and i have been playing gta san andreas , it had the laser reading issue but i did every youtube video imaginable and none worked , my solution was i was so fed up thinking i was gonna have to buy another so i slammed the disk tray down and punched it and i’m not even joking on everything , it fixed from me punching and slamming it and it has been perfect thankfully since 😅😂😂

I had a 9000. They are good if you are playing on dosc but thats it. Im a modder and i wanted the easily moddable console, which is the 7000 version. But i bought a og fat, because they are better than both.

The 70000 supports native PS1 gameplay, the 90000 has emulated or no PS1 support.

they are all good. its not a big deal what one you play on... I only prefer the style and the likely longer life span of the slim models.

Yeah. Just a bit less reliable. Good console. He has the advantage of the hard drive bay for easy inexpensive hard drive storage.

You do qualify. You can put free my food on every version of the PlayStation 2. You can get really cheap memory card adapters on AliExpress as well. That's what I did

I had both the 7000 and 9000 silver model brand new from Walmart and target guess what they both suck. Sony never fixed the laser issue I had to keep opening and closing the lid so it would read blue CD games, every time I would pop in a game say like wrath of cortex it wouldn't read it the first time the laser would stop until I kept closing and opening lid so many times. I hated that version so much and my phat model doesn't have that issue it reads the games just fine so I'll stick with the original ps2 model

I'll probably say 7000, because of the Free McBoot memory card. I only have the 3000, which still works with the card, but using those OPLs to play games on USB or HDD is impossible, due to not supported on PS2 3000s. But I do remembered few days ago that my console rarely successful of me playing a game on USB, which is Def Jam Vendetta.

@@rubenrios9497 i have all playstation 2 models The 90000 models all have usb 2.0, i tested the loading times on each models and checked the board All late models have it same goes to ps2 tv. Its not a thing u gonna find on wikipedia Its a thing you experience and test so if you dont have all latest ps2 models just STFU

PS2s are growing in value monthly :-) it's great to see them valued how they should be. I remember back in the day Nintendo stuff held its value way more, and that is still the case but Sony stuff is catching up. I believe eventually they will be pretty close.

No spot to insert a hard drive into the console. That's the main benefit for the fat model. You could run it through USB but it would be slow

Aesthetically 7,000. But for functionality, reliability, and accessibleity (mostly because of the universal power supply.) 9000. Short answer, 9000 is my favorite and I recommend that.

@McDonald's The fat ones use to be superior because of the hard drive tray. Now with SD card support there is no real reason to say the fat one is better, the disk drive it's more likely to fail and the Slims don't run as hot so they generally last longer with better performance.

@McDonald's I see, I wonder if that's just bad luck? The cpu core of the Slim PS2 is 33 Megahertz faster. also I know people with disc tray problems. that's the main draw to the slim for me. Also I don't use the slow usb ports on the ps2.. memory card SD is fast enough to run games... but hey, "Some people say cucumbers taste better picked."
