As a professional musician and a very low grade squash player, I really appreciate the specific points you addressed and how to improve them. I particularly liked how you pointed out that some shots like the crosscourt flick need a strong wrist which gives me some concrete goals to work towards.

great video clip ahad! its always good to learn from the mistakes of others. in the first two games both ladies played great cross court high drift shots to push the other to the back of the court... impressive! i'd like to reference the double consecutive drop shot error by hania. most often in my game (especially in the early stages when nerves are in play or i am new to the court), i make the same mistake by trying to execute too fine a drop shot which hits the tin; and on the subsequent points, if the opportunity presents itself, i try to execute the same drop shot again with the same amount of fineness as the first. as an amature i reckon i should execute the second drop shot higher (than the first one which hit the tin) and be less aggressive and progressively refine the drop shot as the game progresses.

Absolutely Nicholas. The goal is to be aware, determine the optimal course of action, and then execute it. Of course there are layers to each of those elements, but as you said, we should try it again (when we're in the correct position), but aim higher. As we become more experienced we create mental blue prints about how to execute certain shots (technical, tactical). With greater awareness we can 'feel' the subtleties, and make corrections. Aiming higher is definitely one of those corrections :) - Ahad

OH MAN! I am totally guilty of #8. I am lucky to be a great retriever and often put myself in fantastic position to hit that drop in the front, but then I DON'T FOLLOW THROUGH and fluff it into the tin. Nothing like outright winning the rally to screw up what should be a basic shot. I've been all Swedish, no Finnish I guess. I have tried to put a lot more follow through and purpose into those shots, and I've found there is a lot more zing to these shots, ensuring it hits the front wall and not SO soft as to be the most perfect drop ever, or more usually, into the tin. I've found a Squash Skills video called the Drop Shot Matrix with Nick Matthew that has really made a difference in my solo routine, and specifically - this stupid error! Great video again Ahad. Keep the great content coming!

Great video Ahad. For myself my main error is always trying to hit a winner off a volley rather then view it as a pressure shot...which shows lack of patience. It might be interesting to do a similar video with some of us amateurs...perhaps decent players at the 4.5 to 5.0 level. Sometimes it's difficult to relate to the pros...they don't play the same game. I also think showing tactics from this level player will again have more meaning for most of us, as in all of the matches I play or watch at that level or slightly higher we all try to end the rally much much sooner, so trying to understand tactics at the pro level doesn't relate to the game most of us 'mortals' play.

Thanks for sharing your suggestion. The amateur level game is in fact very different! My hope is to teach the overarching philosophy, tactics etc. by watching the pros. The fundamental strategy aspirations remains the same for amateurs (for the most part), except that they can't execute the shots accurately, consistently. That requires a lot of technical work (solo, drills etc.), but it all begins with awareness! I have been contemplating setting up a membership section where I spend some time each week analyzing the members videos on a live stream, in a group learning environment. Would that be something of interest? - Ahad

Ahad this is beautiful, can we do a video specifically on the working of perception skills of players. This is one area coaches usually don't correct. Also, there is a lot of talk on deception but I am really interested in developing perception as a coach.
@ARProformance
@ARProformance 2 жыл бұрын
This is a great question and suggestion. A tricky one to create a video on solely through pro matches because we can't see the drills, concepts etc. they apply to improve their perception. T position, split step timing, watching the ball, and playing against opponents who hit with variety are certainly some ways in which one can improve their perception directly and indirectly. Many many elements to this, but definitely something I will contemplate further. Thanks for the comment and support, - Ahad

Thanks for another great video! I am a decent club player with a decent basic game (I think) but I find that my no 1 reason for loosing games is the inconsistent ball striking. By that I mean hitting the ball off the sweet spot of the racquet head and ending up loosing accuracy or length. You might easily say that it is the level I am playing at, but the frustrating thing is that on a good day with better striking I win many games against players "at my level". But most days I will hit 5-10 nice shots in a point and suddenly I will make a ridiculously bad mistake giving the opponent a very good opportunity and they win the point. It is quite obvious to me that my range from low to high quality is a lot more noticeable than it is with other players at my level. I try to practice my striking quality, like e.g. volleying to myself in the service box etc. which I have not mastered yet, so I am still struggling.

Thanks for sharing Daniel. Consistency is the name of the game. There are several technical factors that could be at play from racquet preparation, spacing, contact point, and more. As you continue to raise your awareness and realize your opportunities, everything will come together! All the best, and thanks for your support! - Ahad

Hello it happens to me too and in my case the problem is the distance from the ball = I am often hitting the ball from to near = too much rush = more running = faster tiring to cover the court space correctly during a rally. Focus on the ball and the the opponent movements and the way he/she hit the ball helps me a lot to "read" the oponent game in advance and get more time and confidence on what to do and where to be to shot the ball at the best.

As homework, I was recollecting errors from my last match with a good player in the Netherlands I made an error on the forehand volley drop at a crucial stage and the low hard boast when I saw an opportunity but it ended up in the tin.
