I had diverticulitis - psyllium works very well for me. I never go a day without it. My cholesterol was 209, after 6 months of psyllium (and lots of exercise) it went down to 158. I love psyllium.

Very informative video. I learned much from this video so many thanks. It was 2 different doctors that told me to take Psyllium such a Metamucel and I have Diverticulosis. But I never liked the idea of drinking it in plain water either until I was diagnosed with diabetes. Then I started reading where I can use it in baking, soups, coffee, milk, tea and a whole bunch of other foods. So now I'm using Psyllium to help control my diabetes and so far it is working.

I have been taking psyllium husk daily (one teaspoon) for over 8 years now and find it great for bowel movement. I drink it with water just before it becomes gel.

I have been taking psyllium husks for over 10 years DAILY. The benefits are so many and diverse. It helps me to control long years of hemorrhoids effectively. Recently, I found out it also helps controlling my URIC ACID levels, due to its ability to absorb and metabolise fructose efficiently as a soluble fiber. As it also improves gut health and promote digestion, it helps the body manage and excrete uric acid more efficiently.

I eat a lot of fibre, drink a lot of water and exercise everyday. Still for 41 years of my life so far I've been constipated and cycling between constipation, diarrhea and painful gas pins. I started taking 2/3rds daily recommended dose of Metamucil these past few days, and it has helped so greatly in making me regular. Like I said, I typically eat a diet high in fibre-rich foods, so I never had any bad side effects with this larger dose, plus I always drink another glass off water after taking it (I normally drink a couple of glasses of water at each meal anyways). I think I'll be taking this everyday now to continue going to the washroom each day and maybe finally feel normal.

If you're still constipated eating a lot of fibre everyday I would advise taking some added magnesium. Psyllium husk is crap.

@@applegal3058same situation as you, I’m vegan so I consume lots and lots of fiber, particularly insoluble fiber which I have a hard time digesting. Psyllium and fermented foods have been a life changer. I don’t go a day without them.

Dr. Lustig talks about how critical prebiotic gut health is. Without it, probiotics can't work. Prebiotic health (feeding the good bacteria) in the colon is key to metabolic health, which is real health care as opposed to treating the symptoms of underlying disease. Psyllium slows digestion, which means the early digestion of the sugars and carbs does not go to and overwhelm the liver, becoming stored energy in the form of organ surrounding fat, which is killer fat. This is from my Dr. Lustig notes: "Eight chronic diseases that have taken over modern medicine. Type 2 diabetes, Hypertension, Dyslipidemia, Cardiovascular disease, Cancer, Dementia, fatty liver, and polycystic ovarian. None are curable and account for 75% of all healthcare costs. None of them have a treatment, but all are preventable. We are treating the symptoms but not the cause."

It is written on the Internet that no more than 7 days of psyllium is allowed. Can hurt the intestines? I'd love to know what's true or not. I'm really confused.. because I put 20 grams of psyllium in baking.. so help me understand if it's okay to consume psyllium regularly after 7 days?

Combine it with slippery elm and you will experience a large bowel movement. I wish some of my grade school teachers had used this combo. (alleviates grumpiness).

I was using psyllium husks as a fiber supplement, until recently. But my digestion has deteriorated to the point that it makes me very sick to consume it. I’m hoping to find answers soon... I made a Keto bread without the required psyllium and it worked fine.

Perhaps you may have candida (large Intestinal bacteria overgrowth) or SIBO (small intestinal bacteria overgrowth). Theirs stuff to fix that.

I have been taking psyllium husk for many years more than 20 on a fairly regular basis. Simply mix about 3 or 4 teaspoons with about 2 full mugs of water mix it well and drink it before it becomes gel like. Next day your shitting an inner tube full blown evacuation, great stuff

How did the perfectly good word Preventive become “Preventative” ?

It's been around since the 1600's and is a valid alternate spelling of preventive. Most formal writing guides, such as Chicago Manual of Style and the AP Style, book prefer preventive. So do I. But I'm admittedly old school 🥰

Maybe someone can help me. I bought some psyllium husks capsules with 1,575mg for every THREE capsules. It said take three capsules twice daily and I’ve been constipated for days. Should I only take two capsules a day to get my body used to taking fiber ?

Are you drinking enough water? Make sure to drink plenty of water. We're you more regular before taking psyllium? How long have you been taking it? Fiber feeds your gut bacteria so if you are lacking in bacteria, you should add a good probiotic for a little bit and eat some grass fed, sugar free yogurt mixed with chia seeds. I personally take about 6-8 grams per day in the powder form. The capcules may be your problem.

@@cnetate thank you for responding! I usually do. I try to drink half my body weight but I’ve been lacking 🥴 I was alittle more regular before the psyllium. I took 7 pills five days ago 🤦🏽‍♀️ and have been jacked up ever since. I have a colonic tmaro so hopefully that works. I think I do need some probiotics because I used to take them it was awesome for my body. I’m not too fond of the powder form, that’s why I take capsules 😖

Without psyllium, I go to the bathroom 6 or 7 times one day, the next 2 or 3 and get massively backed up and have gas all night. Bloated all the time. Stool is like diarrhea, small pieces. With psyllium I go 3 to 4 times every day, massive turds, easy passing, no bloating, no gas. I feel like a feather.

That is what I do, and lots of other stuff. The kefir taste is much stronger than the psyllium or flax. I mix it in a blender with berries and some cinnamon. Just skip the banana since it blocks the uptake of many nutrients.

The title of this video should be something different because there is so much general information about psyllium, like it's history, what kinds of food it's in, etc. The focus of the video should be in accordance with the title. If you want to do a video all about psyllium that's fine but I came here to find out when NOT to take psyllium, not just to learn all about it in general.

Whole gut transit time is average 24 hours so it works fine like that. You should NEVER mix Psyllium with food unless you want digestive distress.
