Colon Hydrotherapist here. If you have slow bowel motility (constipation) be so so careful with the amount of soluble fiber you eat. If too much is eaten, it can basically turn into a thick glue in your colon and makes you more constipated. Start with a tiny amount and eat food that contains a lot of fluid and drink a lot of water as well.

I noticed my bowels would become harder on Keto which was painful, although I was still going daily. I was having about 1tbs of chia seeds and 1tbs of flax oil in smoothies daily. Along with coconut cream. I tried drinking lots of water thru the day and taking Metamucil and electrolyte supplements. Nothing seemed to help so I stopped keto and my bowels were normal again. Do you have recommendations for how I can get back on keto and keep normal (softer) bowel movements?

@@realestwatchreviews You could experiment with not taking Metamucil or chia and eating a ton of non starchy veggies. @@snipesentertainment9037 Smart man- goats milk is good stuff. I like goat cheese with Cranbury= $10 at Wegmans so it's not cheap. Some guys online bash chia seeds. Do you find they help your digestion- or hurt it? Any noticeable differences in how you feel when you eat them? They guy is CarnivoreMD- he says they are BS. He demonstrates by putting them in water and points to the gunky slime that results. Those small clips can be misleading so I rather listen to you since you eat them. This is helpful information. It merits mentioning that ground flax and chia can go rancid if stored at room temperature for long periods of time. Oxidative risk occurs after seeds are ground; therefore, I do not purchase ground flax seeds. Heat and light are particularly detrimental. According to many sources, flax and chia should be freshly ground to maximize the nutritional benefits. I grind a 50/50 blend of whole flax/chia and store it in a sealed container in the refrigerator for no longer a few days. I use two tablespoons in yogurt, keto cereals, smoothies, et al. I store the whole seeds in their original packages inside freezer bags in the freezer. I remove only the amount needed to grind more seeds.

Thx for this fascinating analysis of flaxseed and Chia. Even the putative benefits drawn from Chia (reduced inflammation, better glycemic control ....) were in fact due to the deterioration of the biomarkers of the control group, who was fed simple bran. So , for me flaxseed (before lunch: 1 tbsp ground flax with lemon juice in a warm glass of water) is the way to go .Furthermore, one kilogram of nonGMO flaxseed costs less than 2 dollars in Morocco. But Chia also could be very beneficial for specific conditions as shown in this remarkable video.

I add them to foods such as cereal, hot mostly, don’t eat cold cereal, puddings and to Veg meals etc. I enjoy chia more but just use both because I felt they were both beneficial. Chia meal pros : Omega 3 rich, antioxidants, fiber, potassium, calcium and magnesium . Chia cons : calorically dense and high in oxalates . Flax meal pros : Omega 3 rich +lowers blood pressure ,fiber , lower oxalates compared to chia .Flax cons : estrogenic mimic, cyanogenic glycosides. Conclusion : Use both sparingly 2 tblspns added to meals . Over consumption of either could lead to intestinal blockage .
@jagr06

The estrogenic mimic is a flawed argument you'd need to consume 10x the normal amount most people eat daily for several years for it to do anything. Body fat produces more estrogen in your body than flax seeds, the more fat the more estrogen gets produce. So it's not a big problem.

Just thought it was worth pointing out that the term Butyrate comes from the word Butter...yet very few people talk about the SCFA benefits of butter. Basically the most pure source. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Also worth brining into the discuss are other forms of short-chain fatty acids like Iso-Butyrate, Iso-Valerate, and Propionate which are found in an abundance of food sources, but mainly animal-based ones. Point being, SCFA can come from a multitude of sources, so if Chia and Flax are not your thing...not to worry.

I've read that over 90% of your butyric acid comes from fermentation of fiber in the gut, and the remainder from sources like butter. Even grass fed butter suppliers won't specify the butyric acid content in their prducts. Grass fed butter is superior to grain fed butter for probably a dozen reasons, but I wouldn't eat it it solely for the butyric acid content when we can easily obtain it from soluble fiber.

Flax benefits are not readily accessible without grinding them up etc and similarly, chia without soaking (although easier). Flax seeds pass without change unless ground up so the soluble benefit is not not as accessed. They do also become oxidized if the powder is not used timely. Your insight will be interesting

Good video, lots of info, but at 1:40 there's a slight misstep - insoluble fibre does not 'increase' transit time, it DECREASES it. 'Pushing things through the gut faster' means transit time is DECREASED, not 'increased'.

Hi Thomas, 75 year old David Kennedy here. I love the detail you give us on your KZfaq videos. Kudos! I really enjoyed your information on MCT usage. I have been using Sports Research Organic MCT for several years but I often wondered how to determine the recommended daily dose. I currently have worked up to 2 tblspoons daily but after your KZfaq video I wonder if I am taking too much or too little, and the label on the bottle basically acknowledges c8 and c10 but not the quantity. I have tries SR's website and numerous others but none help me know if I am even close to the 6 grams you suggest. Can you help clarify this? Thanks!

There is almost no difference. You eat 1-2 tablespoons of seeds a day at most so they won't affect you in any case. Phytoestrogens also are much less estrogenic than real estrogens. If estradiol and other estrogens are a problem for you, stay away from dairy, that usually accounts for 70% of the dietary estrogens

Both chia and flax are much more usable when ground. However flax contains cyanogenic glycoside, which forms hydrogen cyanide when the seeds are crushed and hit water. You'd have to eat a fair amount to reach toxic levels, but it's worth noting.

@@alissasteffensvocalcoach342 please watch from 13:33 . Flax effectively decreases Oestrogen; the compounds in flax that have an oestrogen-like structure bind to the bodies oestrogen receptors, so they are no longer available to bind with the bodies real oestrogen, the receptors don’t respond to the fake plant oestrogen, so the bodies potential oestrogen response is reduced. Hence reducing the likely occurrence of any ailment triggered by oestrogen.

Any thoughts on combining things? I've been tweaking on my first meal of the day, usually around 11:00 a.m. It consists of half a cup of rolled oats, one tablespoon of chia seeds, one tablespoon of ground flax seeds, one tablespoon of hemp hearts, a whole (small) sliced banana, half a cup of blueberries, one scoop of Genepro protein powder, 2 Tablespoons of PB fit protein powder, mixed together with one cup of skim milk. This is also when I take my multivitamins and creatine for the day.

@@salmanbinhabib9167 No specific diet, just trying to get all the good stuff in my body. Not an athlete or bodybuilder, but really trying to get my fat % down and muscle % up. Skim milk over whole because of the fat content, and personal preference in taste/ texture. The two types of protein powder I mix in are genepro (very clean whey protein with no additives ) that has 11g of protein and two tbsp. of PBfit that only has 7g of protein. The total protein for that meal is 40.54 g. I am also considering switching out the PBfit powder for something a bit cleaner, but I haven't found anything yet. Thanks for reaching out, and i'd love any feedback / advice.
