Awesome, thanx you were the only video who showed exactly what to do. Details like which way to install seal and spring were not covered by others.

You show at least to me how easy it can be, also how much detail is so awesome... Thank's I'm working on a 1985 XL350r and it helps to get a general idea of what to do...

YOU SAVED THE DAY ! I got the allen bolt out of one of the forks but the other fork, the bolt was spinning freely. The KZfaq vid that I originally used took everything apart.. spring and all before takin out the bottom allen bolt. I was look'in up how to fix a spinning one and they where telling me that I had to get a bunch of extensions and a bolt on the end to hold it while I turned it. THANK GOD I ran across your vid. I put the spring back in..and BAM! problem fixed. YOU ARE A LIFE SAVER !!

Useful video!! Hint - do not remove springs before lower slider, the innards can tip sideways and catch on the upper bush, if you are tempted to use the leg as a slide hammer to get the seal out, things might get a bit burred over.... I found this out on a Transalp, same but different......

Great video, a few pieces of information that would be handy: What do you use to clean the parts? The seals should be coated with ATF or fork oil when installing them. Torque specifications: Axle: 36-58ft/lbs Axle holder nuts: 7-10ft/lbs Lower Fork bolt: 11-18ft/lbs Upper fork cap: 11-22ft/lbs Upper Pinch bolts: 13-22ft/lbs Lower Pinch bolts: 22-25ft/lbs What the specified fork fluid is: Dextron ATF or SAE 10W fork oil

There are several different forks designs out there and most of them have a bushing mounted on the bottom of the fork tube, requiring you to "slide hammer" the fork seal out after removing the bolt in the fork lower and the seal circlip. Those types of forks also require a seal driver to install the new seal. Thanks for watchin'.

Great video. Thanks for the detail and for the post. I just did my 84 XL 600 that has sat for 30 years. The seals came out with a little care and some WD40. I'm planning on polishing the tubes and wonder if I should clear coat them after. Also I will send out the sliders for nickle plating, since there are a few rust pits developing. Any advice from anyone...let me know. Thanks

Probably a good idea to let the air out before you start taking it apart.

Great Video. Very informative. Just one question. What is the purpose of the air valve on the top of the fork. This was never mentioned in video. Is shock then filled with air to a certain PSI or an inert gas or oil only?

D-Ray, Thank you for another informative DIY video. Is the process about the same on an ATC 200S. My right shock is leaking oil. Typically you would replace the seal and the dust cover correct?

@ D-Ray Smith I am working on four of them as of right now. I have a 1976 Suzuki RM250A. 76 is the first year that Suzuki introduced the 250cc to the RM series, the 1983 Yamaha XT550J Dual Sport Enduro, the 1983 Honda XL600R Dual Sport, and 2002 Yamaha FZ1 aka Fazer 1000. The FZ1 is a 1000cc and will be the last bike I’ll work on the dual sports are what I am working on currently.
