Great series of videos D-Ray. I knew it was time to replace my impeller, but I didn't have a clue how to do it until I found your three videos. I would have never attempted taking off my lower unit, but after watching your instructions I thought I can do this. I gave it a try and didn't have any problems. Fired up my motor and the water pump is working great. Thanks!

An excellent tutorial which will enable most anyone the ability to change out their own Merc Impeller. Is my 1976 50 hp Merc outboard roughly the same? Thank you for the effort it took to put this together!

Thanks, D-Ray. Your instructions were crystal clear, and your easy going technique made the 3 videos enjoyable to watch. The local dealer wanted $150 to do the job. The impeller cost was $18, and it took about 2 hours of my time. I think I could do it a second time in under an hour.

Excellent how too video, the only thing i would add is when i change mine on a Merc 175 i remove the prop too check if any fishing line is wrapped around the shaft that can damage seals, plus put some grease on the splines.

u know thats really good advice, for some reason first pump i did i took prop off, thinking it had to come off i guess and holy shit did i have the fishing line around my shit, yep cant hurt takes five min, everybody CHECK YER SHAFT, L.O.L.

Great video, Thanks D-Ray. I have a 50 HP Merc, it's my first, yep, boat and motor virgin. Motor starts and runs, but that water coming out is pretty hot and I'm being told it shouldn't be. Any suggestions? Thanks- D-Buckhunter.

Great videos. Thank you. I have 2 questions if you don't mind. I have a 2009 model, no water from the outlet. I replaced the pump, but it wasn't bad. Still won't pump. What is the second sealing tube in the repair kit for? And does this unit have a thermostat that may restrict flow from the pee hole?

HELP: Thanks for the great video but it seems to skip the last step.. I'm having a problem connecting in neutral. . I connected my linkage in neutral, and when I push the lower on all the way to bolt it, it goes into forward/drive (out of neutral) and when I bolt it won't go back into neutral and stuck in fwd? Any suggestions? Thanks!

Do you have the correct part number for this impeller and exact outboard? I have changed them before on other outboards and ordered my new one from the local Marina. I gave them the proper numbers, everything and it was the wrong impeller..Two weeks wasted for nothing...thank you.

Can you remove lower unit in the water? Anyone try replacing at dockside? My boat stopped throwing water today. Yesterday it was great. Just began my fishing season. Also, I assume you do not drain the gear oil to remove the lower unit!?

hello dray , When I took the lower unit off to change the impeller my the plastic spline seal and the upper rubber seal came out with the shaft. How can I reinstall it? can I just put them back on the shaft?
