Man ambulances are essential, say whatever about the cops but damn the ambulances will be there when you need help. (some city I get are hella wack though)

@@Etomidate yeah, true, but i never knew that you get charged money if an ambulance has to take you to the hospital. I thought people were teasing me until I researched that fact. Maybe it's not like that in all cities, but it is in mine. I know that our insurance company doesn't cover ambulance fees, which I think is b.s.

I consider Chuck D one of the three greatest lyricists of all time, as well as one of the most important. Back in the day, rap, metal, goth... All were outsider music and a lot about the frustration and angst of being alive at that time. Then, somehow we all broke into exclusive camps, and liking PE if you were a metalhead was uncool. F*ck that, never lost my love of that perspective that PE could bring. It may not be "my culture", but every person needed to hear it. PE should have been 10x more legendary but the powers that be divided and conquered.

People forget what a Hardcore HipHop icon Flavor Flave was. Even the headbangers respected Chuck D & PE. The Bomb Squad production, mixed with Chuck’s booming political poetry was undeniable. When you bough “A Nation of Millions” or “Fear of a Black Planet” you felt like you were buying something REAL (not some entertainment BS). These men did more for race relations than the entire Civil Rights movement, and it was global.

911 is a Joke was Public Enemy's second number-one rap chart hit after "Fight the Power." This song is about the lack of response to emergency calls in a black neighborhood, but specifically references the poor response by paramedic crews and not the police, which is a common misconception regarding the track; the "911" in the title of the song refers to 9-1-1, the emergency telephone number used in North America. This is sampling Sound Experience, Lyn Collins, Wilbur "Bad" Bascomb, Robin Harris, Parliament, Eddie Murphy, Big Daddy Kane, Mico Wave and Michael Jackson. According to law professors Peter DiCola and Kembrew McLeod, if the samples used on "911 Is a Joke" and the other tracks on Fear of a Black Planet had been cleared for copyright under 2010 rates, each copy of the album would have generated a loss of five dollars per album sold, instead of a profit. In 1990, I saw this when the Fly Girls of In Living Color (Season 1, Episode 13) was dancing to this, while David Alan Grier was playing Flavor Flav on 911 is a Joke. The song was referenced on a episode of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air called "It Had to Be You", where Carlton tells Will that be borrowed his Public Enemy tape to jog to. In October 1994, the song was featured prominently in the opening scene of "Tasha", an early episode of the Fox police drama television series New York Undercover. In 2009, The Washington Post ran a story discussing Public Enemy members' visit to a center for homeless and displaced youth. The article referred to the song "911 is a Joke", but due to a copy-editing error,"911" was printed as "9/11", which some readers took to be a reference to the September 11 attacks. A week later, the Post printed a correction. On "Epidemiology," a 2010 episode of the NBC sitcom Community, Jeff (portrayed by Joel McHale) is unable to contact a 911 operator during an emergency -- prompting him to declare that "Flavor Flav was right."
