This interview seems to contradict what came out years ago, which was that Curry became a coke hound after he tasted the big time after McCrory. Did Colin also Lose a controversial decision to mccrory before the Curry bout? (For either the WBA or WBC) remember he knocked out a very capable and decent Kirkland Laing who to that point held a victory over Roberto Duran (said Roberto wasn't fully fit and one of his off nights but still a good win) and Colin ko'd Laing in the 8th round then did it again in the rematch,the same round I think. After he beat McCrory he was being mentioned as a possible opponent for Marvin Hagler. He should have went ahead to 154 after that fight but he stayed at 147 and beat Eduardo Rodriguez and then fought Honeyghan. He also wanted to fight Leonard but if you'll remember Leonard retired a second time in 84 after his win over Kevin Howard. He didn't have the Best management I don't mean that it was bad but just not the kind of management like Ray had that could secure him the big fights. Everything is timing and remember he had beaten Marlon Starling twice and top undefeated Nino LaRocha before defeating his counterpart Milton McCrory. I am not taking anything away from Honeyghan cause he was a good fighter but that wasn't the same Curry that night he looked dead at the weight. I do agree that he was a step below Leonard, Hagler & Hearns but it has to be disappointing that he didn't get a chance to even fight one of them.

If you look at his record he didn't beat one fighter who could be considered a great. Marlon Starling was a world class fighter but not a great. Same with Milton McCrory. Lloyd Honeyghan smashed him into submission. Mike McCallum (who was a great in my opinion) knocked him spark out, and Michael Nunn and Terry Norris also stopped him. He didn't have the mental strength and fortitude to be a great. It is a shame because I was a massive Curry fan following his massacre of McCrory but unfortunately he was never the same after he totally underestimated Lloyd Honeyghan and basically quit on his stool. No great does that.

Good stuff Mark Riley. I was never a fan of Curry and never bought the hype. Can look at his record today 30 years later and still looks flimsy 95%. @@H.K.5 , at his peak he was a pound for pound in the mid 80s, after that honeyghan defeat he was never the same. He still won titles , beat and lost to some great fighters even after that. Took to much punishment as we can see, but a real Warrior no doubt.

@@PugilismCompany There's been some queries lately from Tru School Sports about certain fighters quiting during bouts and them all being british,something "Your boy BT" (as he calls himself and is known by..BT..)brought up and questioned ,and although what I was going to say is different it could be related,and that is a lot more punch drunk sounding boxers from The States than The British Isles and why that is,and with the boxers quiting lately are from the uk which was what bt brought up. I don't know why that is but bt said that maybe 'SOME' British are more kind of civilised in a sport where it requires a warriors heart and before anyone has a go,I'm English myself from the northwest I'm not pointing the finger,I'm more doing 'THE DEVILS ADVOCATE' not accusing really just find it odd that I can't think of that many boxers from the UK that are punchy,it may be small over here but in terms of people you're talking over 60 million people if you include all 4 countries with England having the majority of 5/6ths of the number with 50 million,there's 300 million over in the states but my ratio is just a general one and there's a lot more punchy sounding boxers from the states,also alot more great fighters et cetera,seems to me in the fact that boxers who have quit, they are all British over the last few years Kell Brook,Amir Khan,Daniel Dubois and O'Hara Davies to name a few. @@paulanthony5274 in my opinion you have to take in consideration how many amateur fights plus pro fights. Here in the states we have true gym wars and it a embarrassment to be known as a quitter because most fighter came from the streets and its a reputation that you most uphold. But it is based on your ratio we have more fighters that must make it through the ranks of the amateurs to show their bravado and through that wash you get the toughest, the best and the focused. The cream rises to the top in the end.

Curry has a little bit of a Texas drawl but is very lucid and speaks correctly. Now, I'm sure cognitively he's OK but he definitely shows some damage with the slurring. He took a lot of punishment in the Norris fight but can't help thinking those 400+ amateur fights, from a very young age have caught up with him somewhat. He sound nowhere near as bad as Hearns, Meldrick Taylor or even Norris himself though, in fairness. I hope he's doing OK.
