I work in boxing and was at a Top Rank card in the Dallas Area last year, sitting directly behind me was Errol Spence and over his shoulder in the next row was Don Curry. Wish I had asked them to take a photo together. Two of the Best fighters from Dallas Fort Worth ever! The Lone Star Cobra was Very underrated

I was a big Donald Curry fan. He was one of the most talented and skilled boxer-punchers of his era. I'm proud of him for being inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame. If he wants a fighter who he can guide to the championship, he should contact Amir Imam, who has failed to reach his potential with his current trainers.

Even with a demotivated Curry, you've got to give Honeyghan his props for beating his opponent so decisively. Honeyghan pretty much went into Curry's backyard - albeit Atlantic City, New Jersey, not Texas - and ripped the undisputed world welterweight title from him. No flash in the pan either; Honeyghan stayed motivated and hungry and made several defences. Years ago now but always good to hear from Don - best wishes to him and thanks for uploading.

@@bobke114 I followed a big part of Curry's career and he didn't always sound that way and it has to do with more than just aging. Sadly he seems to have been damaged by the sport and it is reflected in his speech similar to other ex-boxers of his era such as Terry Norris and Meldrick Taylor.

@@PugilismCompany I agree. Btw do you know if there's a video somewhere of the bout between Donald Curry vs Davey Moore in the finals of the 1980 Olympic boxing trials? I had heard a lot of Davey Moore back then and knew either him or Donald was going to represent the US in the welterweight division. For some reason NBC didn't show this bout during it's broadcast. Thanks.

Wow, that is a very strong statement that Curry would have beaten Ray Leonard. Leonard would have beaten Curry for one simple reason - intestinal fortitude! Few fighters I can think of who had the desire to win like Ray Leonard. Leonard absorbed punishment as well as he dished it out. Curry had never been on the losing end of a fight and pulled the rabbit out of the hat. Leonard did that undeniably! The beating Leonard took against Hearns and he still managed to pull off the KO was nothing short of incredible. His fight against Roberto Duran he showed an enormous heart to see out the fight. His loss to Terry Norris, the same thing. Donald Curry on the other hand wilted under every beating he took. He quit against Lloyd Honeyghan after he got cut. The Mike McCullum fight, and that lefthook would have KO'ed most 154 fighters. His subsequent losses spoke volumes too. Donald Curry was an explosive fighter who stood head and shoulders above his opposition until he got beat - thereafter he was never the same. That air of invincibility was forever erased. Leonard possessed that notion well after he lost to Duran. I'm sorry, but I disagree that Curry would ever have beaten Sugar Ray Leonard. Leonard just had too much gut and heart for him.

Idk.... Donald Currys evolution was as unique as his style.... He turned pro at 18, whereas, were he an Olympian, his handling would have been even more insulated, balancing between his growth and potential. As a result, He rose way too fast! Experiencing weight difficulties 10 fights in, the slew of difficulties is easy enough to see in Mike Tyson. This hardship of fame maybe the opponent they don t see...oh well.... A meteoric rise is nothing to scoff at...
