I appreciate that we never got to know what’s bothering Bandit, sometimes we don’t know what’s going on with someone and that we can still be there for them.

Ultimately it doesn't matter why Bandit feels the way he does in this episode - we all feel like that sometimes - it's all about how we deal with those negative emotions.

This isnt a kids show, its a family show. Something for both kid and parent. We need more like that

It honestly puts a big smile on my face that Bluey is the one who introduces the concept of throwing the stress away to Bingo and later Bandit since it says a lot about how she's matured as both a big sister and a person (well, dog but you get the idea). Back at the start of the series, she was more than a little bossy and inconsiderate, especially towards Bingo which we can see in episodes like "Magic Xylophone", "Hotel", and "Granny Mobile". Not because she was trying to be rude, but because she was still learning the ropes of social skills and cooperation. It's pretty incredible to see how much growth kids can exhibit over the course of a single year or so.

I love how everyone was wanting to know why Bandit was upset, only for Joe Brumm to say that it didn’t matter. But it shows how one of the show’s strength is being vague on serious subject matters, which allows more viewers to connect with, even make their own conclusions. Great review as always!

Really shocked to hear that to some people thought this episode fell flat. This episode easily became one of my favorites and really resonated with me. I dissociate alot when I get upset and I saw myself in bandit so much. Plus this episode taking place in the beach hit hard too since when stuff gets rough at home I would distance myself by heading to the beach and staring at the water for as long as I needed. I remember around my first watch I was crying cause that day was one of those rough days and I just needed that episode that day. Stickbird is up there to me as one of the best bluey episodes of all time and one of my favorites personally

The first time I watched “Stickbird” was the same day my wallet was stolen from me. I spent the whole day removed from the people around me and sulking in how I could have prevented it, why it happened and why it would happen to me. After seeing bandit throw his problems into the ocean, I broke down in tears and felt like I wasn’t alone anymore in my sorrow. I picked myself up and began replacing my lost items (although I won’t be able to get that photo of my grandma back). I wish I could thank the writers for putting things into perspective for me Edit: I just realized I was picking up snacks for the beach that day too and the wallet was stolen at the gas station. Didn’t end up going to the beach because I was bummed out, but I guess I still got to see the beach that day :)

I’m surprised that people are guessing it’s something to do with his dad. If it dad was ill, I don’t think Chilli would be acting the way she did, it would be kinda mean spirited, especially after we found out how she feels about HER father

I appreciate this episode a lot. I have autism, and I have a habit of overthinking things, and going into emotional spirals. I don't like it, but I really can't control it. I try to confront my feelings, but when I try to, I end up experiencing so much anxiety that I shut down again. So the technique showing how to "throw away" these unpleasant feelings, really helps me. Thank you, Bluey.

Here’s one theory I have as to what might have been on Joe Brumm’s mind while writing this episode: Disney’s constant and ridiculous censorship of Bluey in the U.S. and everywhere else it has exclusive distribution rights. Joe has expressed his deep frustration with how often Disney either edits Bluey episodes without asking him, refuses to air certain episodes out of “sensitivity for certain audiences”, or forces Ludo Studios to make changes to scenes they find “problematic”. I can only imagine how distressing this must be for poor Joe, having his beautiful animated series that means sooo much to him on a personal level be stripped of a great deal of its unique magic, and not having any say over the matter whatsoever. Sadly, as Bandit put it in this episode, “Once you put something beautiful out into the world, it’s no longer yours, really.”

I honestly thought this was about Bandits struggle with his self image. It seems around the "musical statues" and "granny mobile" episodes he goes from being proud and eating in every other episode to getting into trying to exercise and being self conscious of how he looks. I know this is touched on in another episode but I'm not sure which one because it's not on Disney+, but it caused some controversy a month or two back because people didn't like that bandit was starting to act this way... Which is absurd.

Another thing I thought might be bothering Bandit is that he thinks he's getting old. That seems like something that Chili would tell him to "let it go" about, since there's not much he can do about it. In a later episode called TV Shop, he goes to get some vitamins, saying that he's been feeling like an old man. Also, when he says the line about putting something beautiful into the world, he might be talking about his girls, and how one day, he won't be around in the same way he is now. Just a theory.

Best part of this episode is Bandit learning from his own daughter. It's a beautiful thing to see her unknowingly give back to him after all he's done for her.

As a father of three I'm going through a lot and so when I'm stressed I tend to act as Bandit did. I see Bandit as a great father figure so after seeing how he handles his own issue here, whatever that may be, I intend to try it for myself. I very much appreciate you making these videos as this isn't the first time that a Bluey episode has impacted my family and I in a positive way.

If granddad Bob is injured Chili wouldn't tell Bandit that to "give it up" in fact Chili would especially understand Bandit

I know you probably aren’t going to see this, sir. I watch this series with my nephews on occasion. This episode came out this summer after i was diagnosed with cancer. They love playing with me, but the stress, pain, and depression that comes through the multiple surgeries and chemotherapy treatments I’ve been through, has severely hampered my ability to just let go and play with them like I used to. A part of me worries they’ll start to resent me for it. But… the days I feel good and they are here, I play with them. And in that moment, i can smile. Thank you if you did read this. I’m currently 3/6 of my treatments and I’m trying to keep a smile on my face and ring that bell when I’m done.

What I also really love is that instead of immediately telling Bingo to throw away her upset and angry, Bluey first asks her if she wants to keep it. Sometimes we’re not ready to let go of our emotions just yet, and throwing them away immediately won’t help. Here, Bluey gives Bingo the choice and she choses that she wants to throw them away

I love how Bluey is essentially teaching kids about coping mechanisms while at the same time she’s just teaching her sister. I kinda wish this was a season 1 or 2 episode because I feel like I needed those strategies in my life.

As someone as myself who's autistic, I relate to Bandit. I get lost with myself and stressed and sad about certain situations.

While it’s fair Mr. Brumm thought Bandit’s feelings weren’t for us to pry and it’s his personal feelings, Bandit and Joe Brumm’s pain is valid. It’s clear whatever they are feeling, they shouldn’t feel shamed for it. They both have done cool things for so many people and have others that care about them. Joe Brumm may struggle with what he makes but I’m happy for him making something that resonates with so many people, including himself. Bandit is a good dad despite his flaws. They don’t define him and he’s able to be a great guy. This episode was definitely relatable and it was an emotionally resonant experience to watch. It’s a powerful episode.

For me it would make sense that Bandit is worried about his father being ill. My grandfather was in hospital and passed away when I was Bingo's age, so if that is the case then it brings me some closure

A potential theory on his thoughts could be his own health. We've seen bandits weight is something he's sensitive about. And while that may seem like a minor thing to get down about - I can easily vouch that when you're worried about your appearance, it can really take down your entire day. Combined with the really of aging. Of course I'm generally happy its completely left ambiguous! But given afew episodes where the family even calls him out for munching or we see how in "Daddy robot" his sneaking of Chinese food. His health and guilt over those actions probably hit him hard at times.

I love that bandit is a self insert but one that isn't perfect but tries his best to keep his family happy. I hate when a character is obviously modeled off of the creator but is shown to be perfect and never wrong and if they are wrong it's "corrected" the next episode making them right.

Pugly, I just want to say that I absolutely LOVE your usage of AJR intrumentals in your introductions. They're so well picked and thought out! "Finale (Cant Wait To See What You Do Next)" is not only one of my favorite AJR songs, but it being used for this episode's intro is so perfect.

As a trained social worker up here in Canada, I wanna say I adore how Bluey depicted the throwing away of all that angry and upset. It is so important that kids learn these coping skills early so they can continue to develop them as time goes on. Bravo team Ludo. Bravo.

A trick I figured out was to visualize a pipette sticking out of my head to suck out my fear and anxiety so it wouldn't clog up my chest.

I also think his "When you put something out into the world, its no longer really yours" could apply to his *kids*, the fact they are growing up and will eventually have to go out and be adults and he cant protect them when they do. All he can do is teach them how to take care of themselves. the thoughts every parent has

imagine if Bingo actually said "I want them to explode" instead the line she said in the episode when the kid ruined her stickbird. that would make it way so much funnier

I absolutely love this show. I relate to so many episodes and they make me feel less alone. Stress, anxiety, abandonment issues, etc. Bluey is where I go to remind myself I’m not alone in what I’m feeling

This was a very good explanation and I myself went through a point in time where somebody said something online where it just caused me to be stressed and hurt. I was walking with my brothers when this happened and I just unknowingly overthink it and ignore them and when they asked what was wrong I said "nothing." Stickbird was such a. really hard-hitting episode for me because... in that episode, it reminds me a lot of when i have days where i can't stop thinking about my past trauma that was inflicted on me as a kid. In the episode, i just.. really felt how Bandit continuously tried to be happy but every time he was left with his thoughts, he'd get really sad and just zone out. There's just some days where I don't think about it at all, but other days where I feel... well, upset and angry. I shouldn't have gone through what I went through, but it was such a long time ago too. It's the kind of sadness that can really overwhelm you, make you question everything about yourself and your self-worth. The only solution to the upset and sadness that I do feel over my trauma, though, can't be to change the past. Collecting all of the upset and angry and throwing it away, at least for now, feels freeing in a way. Almost like I'm throwing the people who hurt me far, far away. Those thoughts will come back eventually, but for now, it's the freeing feeling that helps you realize that things are different now, and that I'm safe now. Even having the ability to throw them far away is an indicator that I'm safe now.

I loved Stickbird so much. It even gave a good stress coping mechanism. It felt so real.

The 'throwing problems away' is a fascinating take on the idea. I've made my own version of it. While meditating, as a breathing exercise, I imagine manifesting all my worries, frustrations, anger, pain, sadness etc. into black smoke I breathe out into cupped hands, which I push away and watch dissipate. I keep going until I feel like there's no more smoke to breathe out. It's helpful in decluttering my mind and emotionally resetting.

Fell flat? Really? The ending gave me actual chills. It made me want to try it when I get stressed!

As a young adult with Bipolar and Trauma from my past, Bluey shows me things that at times hit so close to home and even things I struggle with as an adult Letting even me learn things to help myself and others around me

I like the episodes when one of the parents arent perfect Chilly needing her 20 minutes, Bandit realizing he should have made the kids get out of the bath early. With how many parents look up to how Bandit & Chilly parent i think its important for them to see that they dont always have the answers, or they fall short at times

Here's what i think...it might not be so clear but i think Bandit's head being in clouds is cuz he sees how his kids are growing up, maybe he is asking himself, what comes next?...idk thats kinda what i got from that special line too

I believe that the technical term for "over-thinking" is "ruminating." I've seen a video or two on ruminating, and find it's something that I do myself, way too often. It's definitely something that I have found worth exploring about myself. I should explore it more, rather than ruminate over it.

Ya know, Stickbird seems to hit differently, now that Ghostbasket is out.

Theres this one artist i knew about when i was younger that the episode reminded me of dearly. He (Andy Goldsworthy) would make some beautiful display out of leaves or stones or sticks in the countryside, snap a photo, and then leave. And nature would reclaim its sticks. It existed for a time where he had agency over it, but even when the artwork passed into the wind and sea, hed still commit to this method. Like the piece's existence at any given point was more valuable than how long it remained. We cant always control the things we put out, but we can at least control ourselves, how we cope with our own emotions. Its hard to realise not everyone will 'get' what you do enough to value it similarly, as well as be brave enough to put out anything at all if this is so unavoidable. But here's what ive taken from the episode: The inevitable loss of control once you put something out into the world shouldn't stop creation or the enjoyment found from it. Theres more sticks, and theres you. You can make more stickbirds. Corny as it sounds, it was nice that the thing existed, right? (I was going to say something more relevant to the episode/video itself, but this came out, so ill keep it as is for now.)

I still wonder what made bandit sad to begin with,I was thinking maybe it had something to with work like he had a bad day before going on vacation,but he was fine in relax,but it was weird that chili was also sad in that episode before :s it would really sucks to be sad during vacation time,ever since they comfirmed the miscarrige,this came to mind that maybe this was the day that it happened and it made them sad,cause you remember the anniversary of it,and maybe they weren't allowed to be sad at the sametime cause that would worry bluey and bingo,so someone has to stay in a good mood for alittle while,if they never comfirmed this though,I think other bluey fans would still think of this of why both chili and bandit were sad in separate episodes anyway

Even though they don’t say what was bothering Bandit, I remember seeing his expression when he’s checked out and thinking “I’ve been there.” I think we all have moments where we want to be happy but the outside world has invaded our minds.

2 minutes in I knew EXACTLY how this episode would end. Saw it coming a mile away. No surprises whatsoever. I still cried.

My headcanon is that thing where a study is published and the media speculates wild ridiculous shit and claims the study says stuff it doesn't, it gets criticism and controversy all over the place and that happened to a scientific journal article he wrote.

Honestly, this episode was one of my favorites of Season 3 from the moment I watched it live. Chilli is... literally my most favorite character in all of media currently after the Rainbow Baby theory was confirmed, so obviously I really appreciate all the incredible writing she's received, but I always felt like in recent times Bandit's been a bit under-served as a result and that makes me appreciate this episode. I feel like there's still a *lot* they could cover with Bandit and I'm confident they will with time. I also love that *what* he's stressed over is never elaborated, Joe's completely right in that what it is specifically is irrelevant, it's that kind of universal messaging that makes Bluey special to me.

I love the including of instrumentals from AJR. AJR's music really reflects a lot on mental health and experiences on their own battles, even expressing in one of their songs to fight internal battles. Its such a great add to videos of episodes that focus on Mental health. Great video and I really love the depth that the Bluey team goes through to make such amazing episodes

I just watched this episode with my wife and Daughter and cried at the end. I was recently demoted from my job that I had a set schedule and off every weekend. I wasn’t given a reason and that angered me and made me so sad because my time with my family will change. My wife hugged me opened the back door and I threw all my anger and frustration out the door. I feel much better now

My family has always been artistic in nature, and on both sides, music is a huge part of that. When I got my first real job almost 6 years ago, I started having trouble managing my anger and upset over the things that customers would say to me throughout the day. One day I turned on my favorite Disney playlist while driving home and began to sing along. After a few big numbers, I realized that I was feeling a lot better. I started building a 'destressing' playlist full of big Broadway/Disney numbers and whenever I have a bad day I put it on for the ride home and sing as loud as I can. I ignore all other thoughts and just focus on singing the song and it makes me feel sooooo much better.

I think an important point is to not feel like you have to blend into the atmosphere around you all the time. Sometimes that can be isolating as you can like you're alone in a crowd of people, but it can also feel like you're allowed to express yourself and feel your feelings. I think both things can be good for you, but too much of either one can either take too much of yourself or not allow you to enjoy the world around you.

For me, when I first watched this episode, I felt like that wasn't any in-story reason for Bandit's emotions, it was purely for the creator, Brumm, to vent his own personal frustration of what he was going through with Bluey. But this point in time in production, there was already some backlash from a few Bluey episodes, including an episode being banned ("Dad Baby"), and some censorship for minor details. I imagine that as a creator of something so lighthearted, and for something they put so much care into getting right and appropriate and more, to still face such strict ire from audiences and scrutiny from overseers can leave one feeling empty. I think this episode is all about creating art and how it'll be interpreted. That's why Bandit himself says "But when you put something beautiful out into the world, it's no longer yours, really."

The: “I want them to explode” part is very funny to think about. I know there are some times when I feel the same way

This show actually has our best interest at heart

Bandit alone carries this episode as his body language and vacant expressions tell us so much, making it all the more satisfying when it goes away at the end. One of his best appearances in the whole show, in my opinion. Unfortunately I don't think the visuals of this episode are very good. Minus the ending shot, which is a shame because nearly every episode of the show has something pleasing to the eye. Although that is my only criticism in this very profound episode in a very profound show.

I watch Bluely when I'm feeling really down so watching this actually made me feel little better after. I guess it was the right episode at the right time to have the most impact on me. I really appreciate how sincere this show is. I'm glad he channeled his personal experience into such a good lesson for both kids and adults.

This episode was definitely one of my top favs. As an undiagnosed autistic kid, I always struggled with my emotions causing my reactions to be more over the top. I even did the dissociation that Bandit did, which would make my friends upset at me. I would constantly get a talk down (or worse yet, the dreaded ‘do we need to go to the car’ talk in public spaces) for my reactions. Even as an adult that is now diagnosed with autism, I still struggle with my emotions especially now being afraid to show them due to past consequences. So it brought major comfort seeing Bandit go through similar struggles. Amazing video as always :]

I'm a creator working towards creating my own animated series in the future, and I have been crippled on multiple occasions by worrying about what happens to my creations once they're out in the world. Bandit's line "When you put something beautiful out into the world, it's no longer yours, really" absolutely is destroying me. It's so real, and it's almost like one show creator to another directly, it feels like. God I hope I can put something beautiful out there. And I hope I can be strong enough to let it go...

I love how Bluey handels such topics in such a cute and also very helpful way. I kinda was stuck in a emotional hole for the past week (actually I started watching Bluey about a week ago, so that might be the reason I fell into a hole) I just watch this Deep dive about two hours ago, went shoping after that. Then rightafter I just went somewhere outside the town on a Bench near the road just to thing about this episode. While thinking I saw a not very deep ditch near the road. Then I got reminded of the end of stickbird, where they just throw away their bad feelings. After that I imaginged the ditch to be a deep hole, as a matter of fact I imagined it to be my own emotional hole I had. I tried jumping over it, it started with small jumps out of the stand and after like half an hour I was jumping over the ditch (my emotional hole) in notime. So Bluey got me into an emtional hole with how some topics are handeld and it got me out again with how some other topics are handeld.

this is one of my favourite videos from you and one of my favourite videos so far as usual your editing and music are top notch and always warms my heart this topic was especially relatable to me and probably everyone we all had this period of time in which we couldn't really function or interact with others as we used to or even show emotions normally anymore just drowning in our own thoughts be it bad or good and in that period especially i started studying interoception therapy and i am really glad and surprised you brought it up because that is also what i thought and the writers choosing not to reveal bandit's problem made it far better for me because it makes it even more relatable and wholesome and them showing bandit actually learning from his kids and not scratching it as a silly children's activity made him a more kind and better person than he was already in my eyes i am really happy you published this video because i made my already amazing day even better by a long shot because it is my birthday actually so thanks alot for that buddy your videos are really well done and amazing so please appreciate your work and be proud of yourself because you have earned it have an awesome day pugly and i hope you the best ❤

This show always makes me cry

Heh, my anxiety is a stone I frequently drop from my hand... but find it often returns to it unbidden. Stupid boomerang-y stress. Still... it's a good skill to have: visualizing balling up your stress/negative emotions and tossing or dropping them (and walking away, leaving them behind). I like to exhale when i drop them too, as an additional physiological cue to myself to let them go.

I needed this so much. I've been going through really tough stuff recently and this made me realize things. Great video!

i thought at 2:04 what bandit said was meant to mean something about when bluey and bingo get older, and practically move out or they don't rely on him anymore. bluey and bingo is something beautiful that he had created, going of into the world without him. which is why at the end of the episode you could see him holding nothing, looking like he was cradling it before sending it off.

This is one of my favorite episodes next to Space and Army since, like those episodes, it showcases what actual mental distress looks like from a character's perspective. In this case it shows how a person at their wit's end disassociates from the world. So many people in all walks of life get pulled into this call of the void and just...disappear mentally for a while. Sometimes they aren't even sure why it happens or what causes it but it all has similar symptoms of shutting off external stimuli and requiring someone or something to snap out of it. Aside from being depressed even people that are upset or excited do this to regulate their mental state. My biggest vice was playing MOBA games for 10+ hours a day in my 20s. It got to the point where the game was no longer enjoyable, droning on through match after match until I got physically tired. Thankfully I stopped playing games as I got older and more responsible but I still have moments where I shut down mentally when stressed out, find a place to lie down and just stare at the ceiling.

"Stickbird" is one of my FAVE eps! I love it SO much! ALL of my love! Surprised the community thinks it falls flat when I couldn't imagine it being better! lol. I've been wondering forever why Bandit was so upset, lol, and I think it's funny (but not surprising) saying that Joe says his reason doesn't matter! lol. I like the theory and have also had it for a while that it was smth about a discovery of his that got ruined or media-hounded or smth! Great video! Adorable!

Okay I definitely clicked on the right video, because I have been stressing over something for the past few days. This helped. I wish I could have seen this sooner. True it will take some practice until I feel better, but, this helps remind me that I have to restart doing things I like rather than over thinking that there is a right way to do it.

Ah, this is awesome to hear; EXCELLENT VIDEO, MATE!!! A review, an analysis and a debate table at the same time?! Brillant! Honestly agreed, the reason actually doesn't matter, the focus isn't on what was Bandit's deal, but on how this affected him and left him with a void; so when he symbolically threw away his insecurities, it wanted to point that he took a big weight off him and felt lightened. Another thought would be, they made it as ambiguous as possible, so everyone can relate as we all got bad days, days in which we are... off and disconnected from life, and in which we just don't want to speak to anybody, being lost in our own thoughts. Anyone can relate to that, not regarding on the context... this show doesn't seek for how's, but for why's, how perception can vary between each individual, and that's why ambiguety is a huge part of the experience; so everyone can relate. Some thinks might be clear, but there's always that spot of blurryness within thoughts as if the show was asking you "Now, what do you think this ensued and why?". But since it's fun to discuss a specifical reason, here's my personal view: My theory is that... Bandit had some bad news [very likely work related] in the middle of his vacation (what a pain in the bum that is...) and it triggered him; maybe this 'news' (probably his work getting either refuted or stolen [makes sense considering the phrase]) were a triggering point and last straw for his already damaged self-view, and he left reflecting around all of this, rethinking his life choices as a clustered combination of insecurities and issues (work issues, his mental ordeals around health, middle-life crisis) collided into his state of mind, putting a huge weight on him. Clues could be how Chilli is so chill (🥁) around the situation, meaning at least some time passed between the triggering point and the present, how he got especially upset around the line "you put something beautiful on the world", and how he seemed frustrated rather than weeping (and perhaps also adding his whole ordeal with his weight issues). Another clue on how this was a spontanous thought could be the fact, on Relax his attitude was jolly, and that's why Chilli was sympathetic but not comforting, maybe he already told her and his vulnerable side was left unseen, making what we saw him, lost in his own thoughts... But he carried their thoughts all through, and now she's just like "Honey, leave them, we're on vacation". An additional reason could be on the phrase itself "when you put something beautiful out into the world, it's no longer yours really" having a double meaning, so maybe additionally he also got sentimental on how, his girls will not last forever and he'll sometime have to let them go (what a sad thought)... Finally, both explanations could actually work: In universe, his wide combination of different insecurities clustering together to deliver a psychological weight and IRL, a metaphor to depict criticism and just negative feelings, and how to deal with it... Left ambiguous to again, let everyone identify with the situation. I'm just glad the Big Blue Guy finally got symbolically rid of his inner demons, by 'throwing' them into the dephts... My, this episode was MAGNIFICENT 💖💖💖
