Welcome back,
Today I’m working on a second-hand Woods RM59 mower that has seized up after sitting idle for a few years. Come along as I take it apart completely, clean and lubricate it well, replace the belt, blades, bearings, and correct the areas of rust. Lastly, I’ll strip, double prime, paint and Clear-All all the parts before reassembling the mower. Thanks for watching.
Check out this video on how to install a belt for the RM59 mower from fellow You-tuber Karalot Stables
• Woods RM 59 mower belt...
Until next time, take care & God bless.

Great Job! Impressive that you even approached this as that sort of "can do" energy will keep your tractor and implements in great shape and working for a long time.

Some of the bolts were in bad shape. Really glad I was able to find someone to weld those spots. Thanks for watching!

Looks great! Where can I get the new decals for my rebuild?
@thehandyoutdoorsman9014
@thehandyoutdoorsman9014 3 жыл бұрын
The decals were the most expensive aftermarket part. What I did was copy the logo off the manufacturer website and then went to Kinkos and had them printed on to sticker paper. Once applied I sprayed three thin coats of clear coat over them.. so far they have held up well.

Great job at restoring. I am in the process of removing the caps on the spindle tops to get the bearing off. I know the caps have the bolts you have to remove and put them in the other holes to screw down and lift the cap off to get the spindle off. My problem is that the the bolts stripped the threads out before the cap lifted up after I had soaked them down with wd40 for about a week. I am in the process now of drilling the old hole out and tapping with a larger bolt to push the cap up. Do you have any other suggestions? I was told not to use a puller because it would just break the cap.
@thehandyoutdoorsman9014
@thehandyoutdoorsman9014 3 жыл бұрын
That’s a bummer about the threads being stripped. As for the puller you are correct as I broke one off doing just that. I think your best choice is to do what your doing and tab the holes. Good luck.

@@thehandyoutdoorsman9014 I used a 3-tooth pulley and was able to pull all the pulleys off including the tops without taking apart.... However, I'm having difficulty re-installing even without the key in place. Did you have a tight fit when re-installing these pullies? I can hammer them on but don't want to damage. I'm thinking about applying some heat and maybe putting grease on the fitting... Any advise? Beautiful restore BTW I was showing my wife and she's like "that's exactly what you're doing!" Kubota Orange in my case...

I to had a hard time getting the pulleys back on. I placed them in a vise to close the opening a tad so it was a snug fit going back on. Once started I used the three top bolts to draw the pulley up. Took a while but they eventually went on. Hope this helps.

The RM 59-1 & -2take a 180" belt. You can get a good belt from GPR for Roughly $15. Buy a few of them to take advantage of them. $6.50 for shipping and that makes it a great deal. Sure wished I could find out what after market spindle would replace these over priced ones. It may be the design but it seems impossible to tighten up the spindle bearings. Maybe a machined shim beneath the pinned bushing might work..

Help me out here please, what is GPR? I agree with you, wishing there was a third party person who makes replacement parts, as original parts are pretty expensive.

@@thehandyoutdoorsman9014 if you dont mind drilling the deck to mount other spindles you can get some off of ebay for a scag or another commercial mower. You'd likely need to get the pulleys to match as well as blades. But as for longevity the roller cone bearings it came with are much more robust that any sealed bearing or aftermarket spindle you would likely find.

@@wayne251975 Seems like a lot of work, as you can tell by the video my metal working skills are on the "novice" level. Hopefully I get a few years out this mower to recoup my cost in repairs.

Did you rebuild the blade spindles. Mine are grinding very badly, and the cost of replacing them as an assembly is very costly.

No I did not rebuild the spindles, a bit beyond my skill set.
