A literal frame off restoration on a new truck. Basically rebuilding the whole truck. A huge job done with confidence and skill. Kudos Ben!

I’ve been watching a couple of these rebuild channels on KZfaq for a couple of years and honestly I really like Ben’s work and as for the others there’s way too much production and marketing hype instead of just working on cars step by step like Ben does. He’s blue collar and down to earth which is more my style. He’s making this tear down look so easy I’d be game to jump in and help.

Isn't that paint flat grey/black because it is just primer and needs to be top coated?

The Bolt on the shackle is facing out so that in a crash it will not puncture the gas tank. Great work.

The new frame is primed, so it needs to be sprayed into glossy black like stock one I think. However, the damaged one looks glossy black partially, not fully.

You are going to use industrial black or Mack black paint on the new frame. Can't have a rusting frame on a new truck While stuffs out u should Hi gloss polish the trans, powder coat exhaust and chrome ever thing

i would of gave the new frame a quid flash of paint and rust proofing before i started essembly

Could it be that the new frame only got a primer coat from the factory? It doesn't sound logical that it would have been stored outside at the factory and fade. Anyhow, great job on swapping all the bits over to the new frame.

Dude, you had to paint that chassis shiny black.

As a long time truck guy, I advise you before placing the cab, to give a coat of anti-gravel or raptor liner to the frame. And then cavity wax inside the rails.

Am amazed by your courage, you’re determined to do the entire swap by yourself while doing camera work, I will recommend you try to invest on two tripods stands with cameras on gimbal if possible and a wireless Mic it save you time

The glossy finish on your old frame looks like it might be a rust inhibitive coating.

It'll be a shame to see all that work be done for the frame to start rusting we've done 2 brand new from the dealer frame swaps and we did paint them both.

The reason they didn't put the leaf spring bolt in from the other side is because they learned their lesson with the Pinto. If that bolt pointed towards the gas tank, then it would puncture the gas tank in a side-impact. This is exactly what caused the Pinto to catch on fire after rear-end collisions.

Did you ever think about Rhinolining the frame to protect from rust? Now would've been a great time to do it without everything installed or powdercoated. Still should consider a def fluid delete and have full power

TBH that would be kind of fun: all brand new no rust parts, pull off one frame walk over and bolt on to the new one.

Ben, I'm excited to see what you do, but it evolves my anxiety going through roof watching you mastermind the process; mostly by yourself. Absolutely amazing!

I'm shocked the back end didn't flip up once he removed everything at that end as it's super front end heavy. Needed some ballast ideally to counter. Could have been a bit dangerous that one so be careful next time Benny boy, especially working on your own.

It would have been a great time to undercoat the whole frame before you transferred any parts. But the build looks great!

Ben we pay for new parts but we still have to spend time on the new part that is delivered to make sure it is to our spec I know garages that would not have took the rust off and used a rattle can so it looks good well done you do a good job 🔧👍

The reason that driver side rear spring shackle bolt is installed that way is if there is a side impact the bolt doesn't puncture the fuel tank

Maybe the new frame needs to be painted to match the old one,and they send it with base coat just to keep it from rust

That new frame looks like a different color not just dull... looks like it might just be e-coat or something. I would of probably scuffed and painted the new frame.

I think a gantry (and chainfall) would be a better choice, than a bigger engine hoist. More uses after you've done this job.

That new frame just as a gray undercoat on it. It's supposed to be painted. Now that coating will wear off quickly and the frame will rust.

A respray on that frame would of been a good idea. Just some extra protection.

Should mark driveshaft when removing so to put it back exactly how you took it off

You should have put etching primer on that bare metal before spray painting it. Spray paint alone doesn’t protect against corrosion.

Leaving the wheels on the rearend helps so much. You can pull it out of the back of the old, and "drive" it to the other frame.

I hope the paint on your new frame isn’t “primed not painted” would be a total hassle if you had to pull all that work down to put some decent paint on the frame!

For those of you saying he should have rhino lined the frame, no!, he made the right choice by not doing so. If you rhino line it, nothing will then fit correctly because of how thick the stuff is. Also, rhino lining isn’t “bullet proof”. Believe it or not, the frame will rot out faster with it than without it. Once rhino lining starts to peel, the race is on for rust to take over and you’ll never really know it’s happening because you can’t see under the under coating. Don’t believe me?! Ask around and talk to body guys that know their stuff. Even when properly applied, all under coating is still junk!

On film it looks so easy Ben, but I'll bet it wasn't. Well done so far.

Its just a primer on the new frame u need to paint it before swapping parts on it..

Looks like primer to me you might paint it with some gloss black frame paint? or its going to rust. Contact ford and ask them it is painted or just primed. You can get some frame paint in a can and spot it in with some card board shields to keep it from getting on places it dont go.

You should have the torque specs and using the correct torque wrench for this new truck.Some locktite too. Should be just as factory.

I lived by ford assy plant. Used to see semis with 10-12 frames stacked up in pile. Like a stack of dinner plates.

It does work a treat if you can just take the parts of one and put them directly back on another! Having been through the "what's in this box" box game a few times, I feel your pain! Glad to hear you get a bigger, better engine hoist; donate your little one to your brothers- that wreck you used there nearly dropped your $125k McLaren engine! Will the Mustang ever get back on the table? That project originally started at a time when a ton of Mustang based projects were on. But what I was thinking, is a full body swap, '60s Stang body on a late model Stang chassis.
