For those who don't know, you can safely do a lot more coke than you can heroin. so she measured out a cocaine line (much bigger) not realizing it was heroin and accidentally ODed.

So many people overlook that. When I first saw that in 1994, I was like..."Is she SNORTING Vincents Heroin?!" Even Vincents heroin friend mentions that, but lots of people just think that she just OD'ed because of doing lines all night. NO... She Od'ed because she snorted what Vincent had to do chemistry stuff too before injecting it in his veins not snorting it without refining it.

Butch didn't leave Marcellus behind because at the end of the day, he was a warrior and despite what he did in the boxing match, he still had some semblance of honor and an honorable person would not leave their enemy to a fate worse than death and there's a lot of symbolism in that scene of the warriors way, it's why he chose the Katana over everything else, and why he waited for guy to turn around before killing him and why he refused to kill Zed and instructed him to pick up the gun before doing so

The case is what's known in fiction as a MacGuffin. The point being that it doesn't matter what's in it, only that it's something everyone wants, a thing to move the story along. It would have been very easy for Tarantino to specify that it's gold, drugs or whatever but it's fun that he left it up to the viewer. The actual prop case contained a yellow light bulb, a battery pack and a switch.

The hand gesture Mia made is a reference to an old US English phrase "Don't be a square", which means "don't be too coward or boring to do something fun and exiciting", but she drew a rectangle to air so she got it wrong. I'm sure it was an intentional joke.
@trippelini1219

And just to add a little more useless trivia. This was from the 1940s, 50s and 60s era, and apparently started with Jazz and beatnik types saying "be there or be square". That dotted square (in this case, rectangle) appearing was used periodically in tv shows and movies from that era (I recall it being in a Flintstone's cartoon that was way before my time, I swear. I just saw it on reruns as a kid). I have seen it said that it has to do with cool people being at a place, i.e. "being around", as in "a round". Since squares aren't round... I dunno if this is true, as I don't think beatniks were that geometrically minded but... who knows.

Back in the early 90s no one was supposed to say the N word but it wasn't the huge societal crime that it is today. People who ran in certain circles did whatever they wanted to do. So Jimmy being married to Bonnie and friends with Jules meant those in his circle wouldn't have taken offense. J.Lo had a similar problem years later with a song she did with Ja Rule. That was around the time people started wanting the word outlawed. Either way the characters in this movie are outlaws so they're supposed to do bad things.

@antoinettelopes it doesn't matter what you grew up with and when you say 'normal people' I assume you mean people with your point of view. But it's untrue to say there was no objection to it at the time, there was a huge row between him and Spike Lee for instance. Also, to say that people were ok with it at the time, simply shows how purvesive and open racial dialogue was, which is a reflection of what society was like.

The first owner of the watch actually had good luck of it, not bad. His great grandfather died of old age.

Don't be a square is a term from the 60s/70s in America that pretty much amounts to saying don't be a dork.

Jules changes his life.... he spent a few years traveling under and assumed name. Later he decided to join military intelligence and ended up being very successful. The new name he used was Nick Fury.

Welcome to the 90's ladies, the character Jimmy(Bonnie's husband) is Quentin Tarantino, I suggest you react to all of his movies if you can handle sex, violence, drug use and the ability not to be offended easily. 1994 was the best year for movie's ever(just pick one randomly), movie's after 2019 are garbage unless you like CGI fake crap.

Vincent shooting Marvin was a complete accident. Marvin provided inside information for Marsellus so he wasn't someone they wanted dead.

12:14 I always wonder if Tarantino hid an Easter egg there that wasn't even laid yet: "she was the deadliest woman in the world - with a knife." Sounds like a blueprint for "the bride" in Kill Bill, albeit with a very long knife...er, katana.

"Don't be a Square" basically means don't be lame, or don't be a buzzkill.

It's a McGuffin, a plot device used to further the plot along. What's in it is not important so much as everyone wants it.

Edmond Hoyle was an authority on card games, and codified the official rules of many different games. “According to Hoyle” means “adhering to the officially recognized standard.”

As for the $5 milkshake, this was filmed in 1993 and back then $5 in the US was just over $10 today. Not breaking the bank, but a $10 milkshake today would make me notice and wonder if it's any good.

If you haven't seen it already, I would love to see your reaction to Jackie Brown. Quentin Tarantino made that movie after this one. Samuel Jackson is in that one too. Not as wild as this film but has some great stuff in it. A really cool story.

They went to a 1950's themed restaurant... so when she said "Don't be a square" she used a 1950's slang term for don't be lame. $5 shake then is like $12 in today's money ... a little steep for milk and ice cream.
