What people don't realize is the potential of these motors and that they are still being developed. Where Gasoline and Diesel tech has almost peaked; Various jet technologies are only now being rapidly expanded.

Surprised no one has used a pulse jet engine for an experimental aircraft. That would be an interesting project. I'm thinking you could make a pretty fast single seat light airplane relatively cheap with this engine. Not sure if the FAA would be happy about it.

You are quite correct. Only one moving part. A friend of mine at school built a car chassis with seat, steering, brakes and pulse jet in 1965. Nosiest kid among 500!

Not exactly, the Argus As 014 had only a pipe with a check valve on the front. Which allowed it to generate more thrust.

What's the deal with the extra piece of tube/nozzle with a gap in the rear? I don't think I've seen anything like that before.

It's a augmentor. It's a nozzle that drags along extra air on every pulse, makes more thrust.
