Exactly what I do Josh, try to leave the “good fouling” in the barrel. Only remove carbon ring. If groups open up at a few k rounds, then I scrub entire barrel with nylon brush and start the “good fouling” rebuild process. I’m using Rimfire blend and C4. Normally only C4 unless I’m stripping the whole barrel. Great video. Our tendency is to overclean the barrel, as shooters, which with rimfire we need the good fouling. I also follow the school of thought of not mixing ammo down a barrel. Keep it all Lapua or all Eley. Intermixing causes good fouling issues. I soak a bore mop just as you do by the way, to sit in chamber. C4 does the work.

Hey Josh, I just started using those small squeeze bottles with the long needle like spout for my cleaning fluids and oil for my patches it seems I'm using way less and with the cost of that stuff it helps. I just fill them up from the original bottles I'm trying to remember where I got them to give you a link or part # but they were super cheap and have a real nice cap that goes on the needle tip so they don't leak.

I have got to get one of those monitors. I hate wagging a laptop out to the shop to use my Teslong scope. I have been using the mops on a pistol cleaning rod to soak the chamber area. I also use bore mops to lube the inside of cases when sizing centerfire brass.

Similar process and set up as you. I use the Boretech carbon cleaner first to soak up the carbon ring first then use the thoroflush/clean just to remove the top and loose layer of gunk. Dont get down to metal like I do on my centerfire because my Vudoo does best fouled without a ring.. Loving the new Teslong too, the focus ring in fantastic vs the old set up.

I shoot 2 ARA matches, one small bore silhouette and one to two NRL22 matches a month. After each, which can be 60-160 rounds I do a very similar cleaning. I hit the bore with two patches of shooters choice and the area just ahead of the chamber with 3 patches wet with BoreTech carbon remover. The carbon remover sits for about 10 min each then I run dry patches. Want the carbon ring down to nothing and try not to hit the seasoning in the bore two hard.

Thank you for (1) Using a Bore Mop. Don't seem to be too many guys that like Bore Mops. Agree to let the Bore Mop sit in the chamber for a while to help soften up gunk and therefore easier to remove the gunk. (2) Agree with use of Nylon Brush instead of Brass Brush. (3) Agree with use of 1 piece Cleaning Rod with Swivel Handle. Keep them vids coming.

If you haven't tried a parker hale jag for cleaning the carbon ring I highly recommend trying one. I find it works better than using a mop and I rarely (if ever) need to brush. I just wrap the patch around it, move it around a bit, let the c4 sit for a while and then twirl it a couple times after.

I’d recommend one final step- use Wipe-Out Brushless Bore Cleaner with the optional applicator spout to fill the chamber (it’s like shaving cream) and let it sit overnight at an angle. Even if you do nothing else, that will do wonders to clearing out the fouling in the rest of the barrel to have it shooting its best I’ve heard both Jayden Quinlan at Hornady and Bryan Litz at Berger/Lapua/SK swear by it for the barrels they use for ammo development. I’ve had great results on all of my firearms but I usually follow the instructions to the letter. However I’ve tested this method and seen 90% of the benefit.

I have found an effective and efficient solution to bore clean and that is to use a smaller bore brush with the patch wrapped around the copper brush with some old Hoppes Solvent and that gets the bore spotless and the chamber spotless as well. One can use a larger brush and or an extra patch or two and that cleans everything with no metal to metal contact. A wet swab and a couple minutes soak time and the bore will be spotless. Now if one still has an issue one can use a dab of Flitz metal polish on the bore patch and that will remove anything remaining in the bore and then a patch or two with Hoppes Solvent and a couple of dry patches and the bore should be clean. One other thing which can up performance is to dip one's rounds in a lube. Even a molybdenum disulfide, or Teflon or certain other lubes of varying thixatropic properties can improve internal, external and terminal ballistics performance.
