Push Fit and Solvent Weld Air Admittance Valves | Soil and Waste Systems
An alternative to conventionally venting and terminating a soil stack is the use of an Air Admittance Valve (AAV).
Polypipe Building Products has a wide range of push-fit or solvent weld AAV's for soil and waste drainage systems which also benefit from Kitemark and BBA approvals.
110mm and 82mm valves are for use on soil stacks in buildings up to five storeys in height and the 32mm, 40mm and 50mm valves are for use on branch discharge pipes.

Pity that Polypipe AAV does not have a very good air flow capacity. My air admittance valve which I designed and also the Floplast air admittance valve which I also designed and owned before I sold it to Floplast have far greater airflow capacity.

Not a dig mate, I'm still learning. "If the pipe run is more than 1.7m you must install an air admittance valve"? Where exactly? Is that on that particular pipe run, or somewhere on the complete pipe system for that property? What if there is already an open vent, I.e. soil stack? In my experience an antisyphon trap would take care of some of the issues you raised and are much more discreet than an AAV. I've seen those soil aav's widely abused. Many times I've seen them installed right next to the toilet, below cistern level.

Hi. Thank you for your message and feedback! You have a number of options and please accept our apologies - it should have been more clearer on this in the video... Your first option would be to have a trap with anti-syphon built into it, this is as you say probably the best option in most installs (and the easiest). Your second option would be to use a waste AAV on the waste pipe run, but this would depend on where the waste pipe is positioned and if you have the space. Your third option would be to vent the soil stack itself, ideally as you advise above the top of the cistern.

I have a toilet wast pipe on exterior wall around two foot above the roof guttering which is open with no cap. I’ve searched for a larger leaf protector but can’t seem to find one big enough. Could i connect the air valve or could you suggest any other products.

Hi I need to replace this valve its a polypipe one, do I just unscrew and replace? Or will it be solvented on?

Hi there. Our push-fit air admittance valves are relatively new, so if we assume that this is a solvent welded version, then the whole fitting will need to be cut out and a new version installing. Hope this helps!
