It also shows that Perrito is not just in this movie for comedy and to just get on Puss, and everyone else’s nerves which I’m honestly glad that wasn’t the only purpose for this character. You see Perrito as a comic relief at times, but he also knows when to slow himself down, and feel sympathetic for others that have anxiety problems and are emotionally scared. And he understood Puss’s pain with no word, his face and his doggie whimper says it all. I was all like “Aww!” 🥺 Such a nice and lovable side character.🥹

I love how they resolved Puss and Softpaw's relationship issues. No unnecessarily dragged out drama, no added ridiculous misunderstanding to make the current problems even worse. It was mentioned in one scene and several scenes later they talked it out. They just talked it out.
@Boss-_
@Boss-_ Жыл бұрын
Technically the drama was brought back, but it was natural and really well done. They talked it out, but then Kitty felt betrayed when he saw them, and still ran off alone with the wish, (and it was pretty much betrayal, just not malicious). Especially after she already suggested they could share the wish (which could have just meant she'd let him have it, as long as they stick together) But yeah, it was really refreshing to see the protagonists just talk it out

That's what The Last Wish does better than most other movies, the 3rd act conflict and misunderstandings barely happened and the characters just talked it out if there was a misunderstanding.

I really like how it was just a simple story about her learning to put trust in puss and her freinds again, that was all she really needed, and they didn't artificially extend it or not give it proper development, it was just a simple lesson that the movie gave time to play out and it worked

A cool thing about the movie is that Death actually stopped chasing Puss when he went to Mama Luna. It's not like Death couldn't find him. HE'S DEATH. He is everywhere all at once. But once he realized Puss decided to settle and accepted his mortality, he stopped. He decided to let Puss live out his life in Peace. Puss spent days or maybe even weeks at Mama Luna's house. And Death never came. It's only when Puss decided to try get the wish that Death realized his mistake. Puss hasn't changed and wanted to cheat him again. He almost immidieatly returns to the chase and finds Puss VERY quickly. He thinks at this point that Puss will never change. He will end this no matter what. In his last scene he asks Puss if he knows that they'll meet again, to make sure Puss has changed. Once Puss agrees, Death knows he can let that cat of the hook.

The way I saw it, Death wasn't actually chasing Puss. It was the other way around. Puss was courting death with his daredevil heists and heroics. When Puss was temporarily retired in the sanctuary he was no longer risking his life, so Death in that period was now a fair ways off, no longer right around the corner.
@CrazyTom736
@CrazyTom736 Жыл бұрын
There's also probably some degree of... Death wanted Puss to suffer, he wanted to punish him for his hubris and disrespect. Humbling him and then killing him himself would've achieved that, but letting him rot and wither away in obscurity, dying slowly from boredom, too scared of his own mortality to leave his safety behind? That would've been just as satisfying a way to bring down the arrogant little legend.

The fun thing is that everyone kinda got their wish despite not making one. - Goldie wanted a family, and she learned she already had one. - Kitty wanted someone she could trust, and she met one. - Puss wanted his lives back, and he got one that was worth eight more. - Wolf wanted to see an arrogant, death-defying prick die. And he did. Purrito didn't really have a wish, but one could argue that attaining comradery was a wish he didn't know he wanted. Jack didn't really get his wish (unless you consider magic coarsing through his body and killing him), but that makes sense since he's, as Jimminy puts it, an irredeemable monster. This movie is a fucking masterpiece.

This is why this movie makes real people, not just characters moved by the plot to make nonsensical decisions, you can see it with the mother of Goldilocks when she discovered her actual wish, in other films like Alvin and the Chipmunks it could end with a stupid discussion with the bear mother asking Goldilocks to leave, but instead, she just helped her to make her wish come true with no resentment, something that a real mother (no matter how conflicting your relationship with her could be) does unconditionally, accompany you till the end of your way.

And the one time there is a missunderstanding, it's not just some dumb situation that could have been perfectly avoided if the character took the time to explain it. The whole thing was too bizarre to believe, and Puss was just too distraught to be able to explain it in detail, or realize how his words could've been missinterpreted. It's depressing to think that the last movie review uploaded on the channel before the accident was for a film about valuing your life and the people around you to the fullest. Life is temporary and can be taken away from us at anytime, sometimes entirely out of our control. We may not be able to control certain outcomes in the future, but we can atleast use our time to be with friends and family as much as we can till then. If you're reading this James, I may not have any experience with losing friends and family, but I can emphasize with the thought of how painful it would be to lose someone you love. I hope you're able to pull through this event, even if you don't upload anymore; and I wish Chris and Patrick made the best out of their life.

This movie is actually RESPECTFUL to its audience and doesnt treat the audience like they're stupid. They dont do the whole "tell dont show" thing that have plagued a lot of animated movies over the last decade. The scene with Puss running into the forest having a panic attack and Perrito getting a chance to be the therapy dog he wanted to be was SUCH a good moment. The character acting was phenomenal, and they did such a good job showcasing what panic attacks like that can do to people and the process of calming down from one. What makes it so good though is that they don't spoonfeed you any of that information. Perrito doesn't go "wow, I get to be the therapy dog now!" It's simply just implied and forces the viewer to think more for themselves. Makes the plot way more memorable as a result since it "forces" the viewer to callback in their memory to that moment. It's absolutely criminal that this movie isn't doing better numbers in the box office.

I think it's more that the movie treated that scene with respect by never cutting away and taking the reaction very seriously. We never get a flashback to Perrito saying something nor do we hear Puss' thoughts or some kind of flashback. We only get to see Perrito him seeing and hearing Puss visibly have a panic attack and Perrito never tries to make Puss laugh or snap out of it, the tone is consistently serious and Perrito instead does the right thing and provides comfort and presence which is just perfect.

This movie portrayed the three types of antagonists so perfectly A broken/confused antagonist- Goldilocks You actually understand her motives, and it becomes satisfying to see her arc close in this movie, finally accepting her bear family as her real one. She's the only antagonist with an arc in this movie, and it was executed rather greatly. A mustache twirling villain- Jack Horner He's literally evil for the sake of evil, and it's always fun to watch when done right An antihero- Death He isn't good, but not evil either, sure he toys with puss' fear, but it's more out of cockiness than anything really, and despite being overconfident, he actually makes things fair for puss, pushing him to at least die fighting instead of being a pus.., and he actually has a personality, outside of being the grim reaper of this movie, regretting taunting and toying with puss whilst trying to kill him.

Shit i just realized Look at goldilock's wish and the path that was given to her on its own. She wanted to wish for an actual family, so the map told her to stop and think because what she wants might already be in front of her, and then showed her their house. IN FACT, every time she tried to get out the path made her walk in circles, it was not the bear following the wrong trail. From the very beginning, HER path implied finding out the family she already had first to be able to get a wish. In the same manner, softpaws has the path of sorrows because she only wanted someone she could trust, puss in boots had the cave of loneliness because he was supposed to realize that he didnt need to be alone. It makes me wonder what Big Jack Horner's map and path would have looked like.

I really appreciated how the conflict between the bears and Goldi pans out when they find out her wish is for a “real” family. It would’ve been so easy to have them go “well fine if you want to live life without us then you can get this wish without us” and then she has to get to the star alone and then they show up to save her when she’s in trouble, which is what makes her realize they _are_ her real family…but no. They decide to keep helping her because they love her and it’s what would make her happy, which is SO much more heart-wrenching, and it makes her decision to abandon her opportunity to make the wish to save Baby feel that much more genuine and earned. I do wish a note of emphasis on Baby’s digs at her for being an adopted orphan and not a bear was included to help make her feelings of not belonging with them that little bit more empathetic, but I can live without that because her decision to stay with them still feels more organic the way they did it than it would’ve otherwise- it’s a realization she comes to in a moment of abandoning her own selfishness rather than in a moment of her being saved in spite of that selfishness.

Honestly, my favourite part was Death. It's such a breath of fresh air to have a villain be an actual threat to the heroes, to have the villain traumatize and scar the heroes just by showing up, rather than have the heroes mock and prank them for the sake of comedy. It legit spooked me every time Death showed up, calmly whistling his tune as he stalked Puss.

It is quite a nice variety to have these types of villains indeed. Unfortunately, that is what Disney is allergic to after I watched this film, they had all their evil villains from their classic era yet today they are afraid to bring them back once in a while if you've noticed their rehashes of them are either misunderstood or anti-hero, lots of their own movies today never even have villains, antagonists yes but not straight on villains or just having it be characters that are red herrings and merely had poor communication type antagonists. That is what I loved most about this movie and Dreamworks in general, they are a bit more realistic and show in the real world there is evil and evil does not care about ppl and thrives on the suffering of others and disregards lives which is what they displayed nicely in Jack Thorne embracing all his villainy while having Goldilocks be his foil to a more anti-villain type. I like when movies go all out with those types of villains because having just one of anything all the time is just boring which is why Disney sucks in the department of writing real villains and making the same "misunderstood character or poor communication in the main characters". I hate to say this but even a twist villain from them would not be bad at this point so as long as they have them go all out :/

As someone who usually watches the films in Spanish, I'm pleasantly shocked they took the time to translate and adapt a lot of things to Spanish. While most films (understandably) just use plain subtitles in the bottom of the screen or have a character read out loud the translation, they actually took the time in this film to adapt not only the "dead or alive" poster so Wolf's tapping would make sense, but they also changed the stick Puss uses as a grave-maker from a P to a G This can sound nitpicky but it shows how much dedication put into this film, and it really means a lot for kids and people who wouldn't understand if these details had been left in English

The messages in the movie about dealing with mortality, not running from past trauma, and learning to value family, was really really something that I needed when I saw it last night. I felt similar about how long Puss stayed in "retirement", but I think it was important because it emphasized how humbled and absolutely terrified he was after his encounter with Death. His character went in the complete opposite direction, and this was after he didn't even take the doctor seriously after it was revealed he had died and was on his last life. It shook him to his core, and it turned this cat who recklessly wasted 8 lives and was in no way ready to change, into one suddenly ok with living a life of boringness and mediocrity after just one scene.

One of my favourite little details is that after the final battle with death, once puss accepts the inevitable and LITERALLY stares death in the eyes without a hint of fear, deaths final whistle is in a major key as opposed to a minor one (at least I’m assuming, it’s the same melody at least), representing puss living with and understanding the fact that he will die one day instead of letting it consume him.
@huaen8880
@huaen8880 Жыл бұрын
It is indeed in a major key (A Major), but interestingly enough, the original whistle is also in a major key (G Major). One reason I think the final whistle sounds more uplifting than the creepy initial whistle is because (a) it's 2 semitones higher, so it would naturally sound a bit more uplifting, and (b) it doesn't include the more eerie second half of the whistle, just the slightly more uplifting first part of the whistle.

I especially love the morale of "the last wish". Jack Horner was the richest and had the most compared to the other pursuers of the star. In his backstory he mentioned how he had loving parents and how he inherited great business from them. The other characters were poor, some even lost valuable things (like Puss losing his 8 lives). Yet the irony resides in how Jack does not find happiness in what he has, all the magic items, all the wealth. All the characters eventually find out that they don't need "the last wish", because they already found out what they needed. And yet, Jack Horner, despite the fact that he, out of all the other characters doesn't really need the last wish, is the most greedy for it. And fate punishes him for it. What BEAUTIFUL writing.

But when it turned out he was death, and he was angry at Puss for not taking him seriously and being so cavalier with his own life, it all made sense. He doesn't chase after Puss and try to kill him if he runs away, because running away means that Puss IS afraid of death. It's also why when Puss is disarmed, he doesn't simply kill him, he tells him to pick his sword back up. He doesn't want to kill Puss without Puss being the one to put himself in danger because of his own ego and hubris.

It’s subtly built up with her trying to communicate with her family, but failing as they don’t listen to her at times, culminating in the scene where Goldilocks confessed that she wants a real human family, emphasizing how she feels disconnected because of her being human and them being bears. And the Three Bears understands this, choosing to put their own wants to the side for her. I love how this movie isn’t just mature from a subject matter level, but on a storytelling level, giving us clues on what Goldi truly wants rather than constantly shoving it into our face. Bonus points: There were suggestions in the movie regarding statements such as 'To find your wish adjust your view, what you seek may be right in front of you' (scene where Goldilocks and the Three Bears reach the projection of their cabin in the Nostalgic Pines). In our pursuit for one thing, we neglect what we already have, and maybe, just maybe, we didn't even need the search all along. - Indecisiveness due to mortality? Puss learned to use his last life to the max. - A person to trust? Kitty found it, with Puss' will finally being consolidated. - Family? Goldilocks had it, feeling great chemistry with the bears and now off to greener greens with a slightly more legitimate business. I loved it, man. I love how much this movie gets away with for something rated PG. Like mild cursing, bleeped out swearing, a bit of blood, and PEOPLE DYING A LOT. I think it fits the tone of the Shrek universe and I think more movies should start to push the rating line a little.

The wolf actually makes you feel genuine fear it was directed so well. And I was surprised when they actually showed blood. This movie is awesome and it's not just geared toward kids but adults and the people who grew up with the Shrek franchise who are now older.

The last time Dreamworks used blood was Road To El Dorado back in early 2000s. This Puss In Boots sequel make me want to see more of dark fantasy Kids film.

@@Fedorah_Mccain During the ball game, Miguel gets a cut on his face. Directly after the game, the bad guy sees the now dripping cut and says something like “Gods don’t bleed.” and that’s pretty much how they’re found out to be frauds.

I believe what makes this movie great, is that is geared towards audiences of almost all ages. Kids can find something to enjoy, and adults can enjoy it while also understanding the deeper meaning.

It can't be stressed enough how amazing the Wolf is. He was terrifying, like Pyramid Head showing up in Shrek

Seeing characters actually dying in this movie in my opinion really served the story. It really made the threat of death real. You can see how witnessing others people dying in an instant affects Puss, and it makes Death scarier
