It's normal to me I guess...I've learned how to deal with pain and gushing blood for two days each month. here in the EU, noone uses tampons with applicators, so sticking my fingers inside myself to place a tampon (or cup) never really was a concern for me. I actually noticed that, while tampons ALWAYS gave me a weird, stinging pain when I inserted them, I haven't had that problem with menstrual cups. I also don't have to stick my fingers inside as far as I did with tampons, so that also relieved some of the pain I used to go through. Before I used a cup for the first time, I haven't slept with a man for over a year and while having sex was usually extremely painful for me (even after the 20th or 30th time), I got used to my cup very quickly and don't even feel it anymore once it's placed correctly. I personally would recommend using cups ESPECIALLY when you're struggling with tampons. My menstrual cup has made my life much less painful and I never want to go back to using tampons.

My mom used ob tampons, and when I started using tampons, that's what I ended up using. I'm also not very squeamish about stuff anyway, so using tampons that didn't have applicators wasn't an issue. Thus switching to cups wasn't a huge deal. I actually had a hard time using the applicator anytime I ended up using a different brand of tampons, so I ended up just tossing the applicator and inserting the tampon without it.

When I first tried a cup, I was in a way forced to do it, lol. I was heading onto a winter skiing trip and got my period (I bleed like hell when I do get one). There was no way I could survive long hours of intense outdor activites such as skiing or hiking, traveling on crowded buses, with a chance to go to a (usually awful) public restroom once in may hours, while bearing with tampons, not to mention pads. My only options were either not getting my period at all or not going on the trip all together. And since the shark week came at the exact time of the trip, I was doomed. But I wanted to go so much! I thought intensly about a way out this situation. And then I remembered, that a thing called menstrual cups existed. Till then, I knew about them only a little, from some fancy fashion magazines or blogs. In Poland cups are so rare, that being unfamiliar with them I saw them as something for weirdos, a rather disgusting funny trend. But... At that time, I become curious. I googled the topic and found out about the amazing copacity of cups and how they can be changed less often then tampons. So, even tho I really didn't want to use a cup never ever, it was my only last option. I went to a drugstore in the city (in the countryside, where I live, none of the markets sells cups...) and feeling uncertain and shamefull (lol, it's sad I had this mentality) bought the heaper cup out of TWO available in the whole store. Funny thing is that the next day our car got broken and we didn't go on the ski vacation whatsoever... But I don't have much to regret, as this event forced me to try a menstrual cup and this has been my best decision of 2019. Now, after almost a year being a cup user, I can say that despite months of deep struggle, I love the cup. On my way through the learning curve I bought myself a new Lunette one in place of the cheap, old one and now it's even better. I am so happy channels like yours exist to help and educate people. Keep up the good work, imagine how many people are there missing out this amazing invention!

I've talked about this with some of my closest friends (I don't really have anyone around me that uses them) and hopefully will get them to try one sometime. The two things I love the MOST of all the things I love about the menstrual cup are zero waste and money-saving!

I think I'm finally starting to figure out how to use my cup! It's my second cycle using one and I'm growing more and more comfortable and basically already loving it and wouldn't consider going back to tampons. BUT when my period is really heavy, sometimes I leak even though I felt the cup open up. It's not big leaks either. Just a bit spotting. And it's so annoying bc I know the cup has opened, but apparently not fully sealed. Idk, sometimes that's still super frustrating. But at least I know that IT CAN WORK properly. And when it does, a cup is literally the best things ever.

In Australia there aren't many tampons with applicators. When I was first starting out with periods I tried a tampon with a cardboard applicator (that's all that was available at the time), and it was horrible and uncomfortable! I ended up going back to regular tampons that had a "silky" or "smooth" coating on them. I have been using a cup for 7 years now, cups are so much better!

You're really in the majority! I know we talk about tampons often but it's more that people using tampons are going to be more likely to give cups a go, not that the majority of people use tampons over pads. Pads are more popular than tampons. Hopefully we don't come off as "against" pads in that way. Switching from pads to cups is a much bigger transition but it can be done! I'm glad you found cups!

pros and cons I’ve noticed in my switch!! pros: - no more dryness or uncomfortable removal - no more smell due to disposables being in the trash - longer wear time - no anxiety about TSS, even when sleeping - easy to change in the shower - can use no matter how heavy or light the flow is, start to finish - saves money - mother nature is happy! cons: - easier to incorrectly insert, which can cause leakage, but not often - getting to know your body (eg. how long til I change? what angles of insertion? etc) takes one or two periods - harder to deal with out of home, BUT usually you can wait until you’re home again so that’s not too bad - that’s it!

I'd say that if you have a very heavy for, then you do need to consider that as a priority. I didn't know exactly how much I was bleeding at first. I knew that it was heavy. I filled up my cup in 4 hours. However it was still better than tampons or pads. I had fewer odors, less leaks or accidents, less cramps, less bloating. It's so much more comfortable! Then as I've gotten further into perimenopause, my periods got far worse. I filled my size 2 cup in 1.5 hours! That was during the worst 2 days of my period. This happened for the next 3-4 periods. I also had months with no period. I got the Jenny cup after taking your quiz. It's better for me than my regular size 2 Diva cup. I still get all the benefits over tampons and am able to go longer between changes/emptying the cup.

It's a consideration but if the "super high capacity" cup you choose based on the fact that it holds the most doesn't fit and stay in place, the capacity won't matter because of leaks and/or discomfort. It can be a huge deciding factor but it still has to fit well and be comfortable.

T. Carter one thing that I do on lighter days is use a reusable pad ( I got mine on amazon and they have super cute patterns). They are also kinda a learning curve and more of a time investment because you have to hand wash them, but they don’t smell like the disposable products do and they usually have a “water resistant” material on the bottom so I don’t worry about it leaking through. I wear them as long as a normal pad and I usually carry a plastic bag with me if I have to change it in public and take it home to wash. I know it’s not really an answer to your question but I have the same problem 😂 I switch between the diva cup and SALTT because I live in two different places but I prefer the SALTT :)

Use a water- based lubricant before inserting cup. I use water- based lubricant for easy insertion. With a clean pointer finger put some lubricant on tip of finger & stick in vagina before inserting cup. Works all the time & another benefit is that you won't be dry down there. Even use the cup for discharge during ovulation, because I don't like discharge getting panties wet. Been doing this for 6 years & nothing major, just more comfort. It is possible to use cups even with a uterine fibroid. The fibroid would get on my nerves if I did not use the cup everyday. Plus, the cup helps when having to lift heavy stuff, the cup balances the womb to me. Hope this helps, ladies.

3rd generation of not using anything BUT pads. No female in my family was told how to use anything insertable. I’ve tried those two and I was never successful. Both always never created a barrier and always leaked. I wish I could have though, but I found them painful to insert. I’m sure I did it wrong and always went with the pad. But having PCOS, using a cup would have made a money saver for me. But thank goodness menopause is coming soon so I won’t need to deal with this anymore! 😅

I just ordered my first cup last night! I am excited and nervous. I ordered the Saalt Soft cup in the Mist Grey. They have a new color in a pink shade. I am looking forward in having freedom with my period each much. I have known about the cup for some time, but was not ready to switch. I finally decided to make the plunge. Eek!! I have used tampons and pads. The tampons became more uncomfortable after I had my son and felt like they were falling out. I switched back to using pads, but they are all sorts of annoying. They irritate me and I don't always get the protection I need. My son calls them a diaper after I tried to explain what I was wearing. All in all, I am looking forward to something better!! ❤

I think the statement about not choosing a cup based on flow is not completely accurate, but I can see why you had said that, since you are comparing them to tampons. Flow is one of the considerations in regards to choosing a cup size, but not the only one-- as you said, your own anatomy is a big factor. I started using cups when I was in my 20s. I've never had kids, and have always used a larger cup-- I have a history of heavy periods and larger cups are better for that.

But my saalt soft is so easy to use and very comfortable. Tampons take more time to insert than the cup. I even waste tampons to try and insert it comfortably. Anyone else have this issue?

So I just used a cup for the first time the last month and I’m mad I didn’t try it before lol. I’m over 30, and have had two babies and the cup I’m using is a Diva cup, size 2. My best friend uses it and she actually bought me one for Christmas lol. However Even though I had a pretty good experience, I do feel the stem in the cup is too long for me. After the first day I started to feel it and I know that I need something else, but I just am not sure what to go with so I’m hoping to find some answers on your other videos. 💋

I never used a lot of tampons, maybe 2 or 3 times at best, I used pads instead. This is actually my first cycle using a cup and I'm on day 3 of cup using, day 4 of my period and I used a pad last night because I didn't feel good about removing it in the morning under pressure but I just removed it and I did it first try! So I just put it back in because I feel better about getting it out tomorrow morning and because using a pad after only 2 days of cup already felt like the worst thing ever. So we'll see how that goes but I'm not going back to pads.

I think that the reason people don't switch is the cost. I can't imagine paying that much upfront just to find out it doesn't work for my body. Then on top of that if it doesn't work then you'd have to wear pads or tampons for the rest of the period while waiting for a new cup to get there. So as good as they are it isn't worth it for me.

Ive been using the DivaCup for my last few cycles. Its been great, but i have had trouble getting the cup to pop open. I feel like my muscles are just squeezing down on it and not allowing the cup to fully open. I usually use the triangle fold (I think? Squeeze it flat, then fold one corner all the way down to the base so the insertion point is very narrow). That fold does give me a point to push up on, and I’ve tried twisting the cup around, running my finger around the rim to make sure it is fully surrounding my cervix. If you have any recommendations, or similar experiences or tips it would greatly help. I miss the ease of just sliding a tampon in within 10 seconds and going about my day lol. The cup is great but I’m so tired of fumbling around with it trying to make sure it fully opens.

@PutACupInIt
@PutACupInIt 4 жыл бұрын
The Tampax cup, and most cups for that matter, are made from a medical grade silicone so any reactions you've had to tampons is extremely unlikely to happen with a cup. They're just different materials entirely. You may want to look at the high capacity cup options: putacupinit.com/high-capacity-menstrual-cups/ and see if any of those might be a good fit for you. Some cups can hold as much as 50 ml which is 20 ml more than the average "large" size cup and in your case, trying to go with a cup that holds more would be great.

@@camillebrown8923 I believe it's at it's highest point on the first day of your period-- not necessarily when it "should" come, but when it does. The first day of your period is a good day to measure it for this purpose. (The height of the cervix changes throughout the cycle, which is why they suggest going with Day 1's measurement.)

It's EXTREMELY rare, as in two documented cases, but in both the person left their cups in for WAY past the 12 hours. That said, it's a possibility even if rare and users should follow the guidelines and remove/cleanse their cups at least every 12 hours to be safe. The chances of TSS with a cup are, IMO, like finding a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow but I can't say it's not possible. I still feel that cups are safer overall than tampons for a number of reasons, but especially when it comes to the chances of TSS. -K
