Just a quick little supercut of some PvP action I've gotten myself into recently. Special thanks to Ozy for the fights and for lending me his F8C Lightning! (lol you thought I would buy a $300 spaceship for a 2 minute video?)

Great editing on this video. One of the things that drew me towards SC in the first place was the lack of a shield meta, which makes fights faster paced and higher consequence. Especially with the fact you can permanently shoot off critical ship parts unlike in E:D where a quick reboot fixes most things.

That's why you sub-target a ship's powerplant in ED. Once that is down, the ship is essentially dead. You can't reboot if you've got no power

Low TTK in star citizen makes the pvp instantly better imo. The combat feels grittier and more realistic. Elite felt elegant in the sense that you're gliding around everywhere like your ice skating.

I can say it's a lot easier to jump into PvP in Star Citizen, mostly because they had the cajones to actually instance all the players together in an MMO instead of having a baffling single player and private server mode, but the one thing I don't like about SC's pvp is the laser repeater "meta", which I hope they change. Plasma accelerators and railguns feel much more satisfying to use. I'm almost ready to PvP in E:D with my billions and a carrier and only one more engineer to unlock, while in SC I did a couple of "shoot a guy standing in the open at a crash site with your ship lasers" and slapped some disruptors on my Titan to taze some poor rando into submission. I do agree though health pools in E:D got ridiculous

That's cause ED doesn't have a flight support system AFAIK. You can turn that off in SC too. And BTW CIG want to up the TTK for SC ship combat.

While I like almost everything better in star citizen, be it huds, overall graphics or the shield zone system, I still feel that nothing beats fixed weaponry combat in ED, especially plasmas. When I see the laser repeater electric boogaloo meta in SC I just feel like you're tickling the ship to death with 10000 needle stings , it doesn't feel impactful enough to me. And regarding ttk - just wait a bit. There'll be the day when the meta in SC will be Equally broken with soaky ships and a meta that you just seem stuck with unless you want an additional challenge. The difference is though, I trust that CIS will balance this out again somewhen, unlike fdev who just 'broke' their game and felt it was all okay.

Also I just went to my first pug rockfight in E:D last week and am going again tomorrow. The most fun I've ever had in a spaceship game. SC doesn't come close.

Interesting that SC looks about as smooth at half the fps as ED. How does it feel to play?

A lot of that is server lag, it confuses rivatuner. SC uses servers while Elite uses P2P communication. Elite has far fewer latency issues. But I do tend to average less FPS in SC's rocks, probably from the volumetric dust. It feels fine to play, but the lead marker tends to jump around a lot more than in Elite, so you kinda have to anticipate it doing weird things.

​@CrimsonGamer99 the lead marker also works a bit different than Elites. Even with fixed weapons in SC there is still a bit of convergence magic happening. The lead pip isn't always 100 percent accurate due to this. The lead pip also has a very small gimbal effect from that convergence magic happening. So when you hit that green spot, there is a bit of auto aim happening. That's why even if you're not directly on the pip you can still be landing consistent hits in SC. It's not an absolute lead pip like Elite.

Combat is usually a smooth experience apart from the times when the AI lags. But during events it can get choppy.

​@@CrimsonGamer99 The server delay does not confuse rivatuner. One thing is the client-side fps (obtained from riviatuner) and the other is the server fps, which does affect the desync or the performance of the pve content.

Great vid. I fire up SC every so often, still Massively prefer Elite Dangerous for flight model. SC has some nice bits (when they work) and too many battles can be down to engineered status in ED. But out the two? ED still wins for me. Pacifier Frags are too much fun!

I've flown leading pip for years in any game that has lead markers. I instantly gimp myself when I switch to trailing.

Why pvp in coupled mode in SC? That's a huge gimp unless the opponents are pretty new or bad pilots. Takes a bit of re-learning but you will never go back to coupled mode once it clicks. Nice vid brw.

Nice comparison. Both seemed good. SC feels like a space FPS, ED more like a space sim. It is a matter of perspective who like what.

There actually is G-lock in Elite, but it's nearly impossible to do it at combat speeds. If you want to force a blackout, do a hard pull spiral when in planetary glide. If you want to force a redout, just do barrel rolls in an SRV. Both cause black/red dimming on the screen, but only blackouts cause you to lose control.

if you dirty drag a mamba and hard pitch on fa on you can mannage to get a g-lock, but this never happens on fa off

Elite Dangerous combat and flight style are so much better than Star Citizen"s. At least to me it feels better, sure the TTK in elite is long but in star citizen it feels way to short.

A lot less room for error in SC. Missiles are extremely lethal rather than a mere annoyance.

​@@sparkyails123Likely because SC doesn't maintain rotational momentum in decoupled like E:D does in FA off. Leads to less spin outs making it more accessible to new players, but really limits what experienced players can do with it. I know that CIG has debated letting decoupled mode preserve rotational momentum but it seems unlikely for us to get a version of decoupled like that any time soon.

You can go with other weapon setups than exclusively meta builds in elite though, you could likely have got that same result but quicker with lasers to keep constant continuous damage on target instead of the very high bursts with plasmas which could yield faster ttk. You can also use ramming to quicken ttk :D

Early backer of both around 2014, I have hundreds of pounds in SC. It will be nice when SC stops being a technical demo and releases as a finished product! To me it was similar to playing Rust etc, periodically and normally every update the server gets wiped and you start all over again. It may have changed, did it?

been playing lately and actually the last two updates we kept ingame ships and AUEC however we did have to set residence and remake our characters but the next MAJOR patch is coming with Pyro so we will see if thats a wipe.

The good thing about Elite Dangerous is by the time Star Citizen fully releases the team at ED will be able to get a liscense for the Star Engine to build Elite Dangerous 2 on lol

Combat in Elite dangerous: Meticulous planning of power distribution, power to shields during initial run, power to boosters for quicker turnspeed, Precise aim, different weapons with different strengths, weaknesses and uses, each one being its own special build and purpose, aiming for specific modules and overall a high stakes, skilled display of aim, combat manoeuvres and weapon knowledge. Star citizen combat: ehehehehehe, my 5000€ ship turns faster than yours and has more guns and I got one more shot off at you earlier so now you lost. I swear to god, star citizen takes the worst parts of war thunder, Elite dangerous and a bunch of random garbage and mixes them together without taking any of the good parts. Seriously? G forces, starship damage that completely guts your ability to do anything? Combat literally just being spamming a bunch of rapidfire guns at each other and if you have more of them you win and if you dont you lose? Thats good combat? Thats just statchecking, there is no skill involved in that. Its literally just pointclick statcheck and a bit of a gamble if the enemy instantly deletes a random "critical" ship part that makes you unmaneuverable.
