hi babies, so I asked some questions with my granny and her experiences with raising a deaf child who is my father. I am beyond grateful for those people who fully involved with the deaf community especially for my grandmother in my life. I LOVE YOU GRANNY AND I know you will watch this. XOXO

U are very fortunate to have a grandma who can sign with. I grew up in mainstream school and my grandparents don’t know nothing about ASL. Sometimes we use body gestures to explain or express our conversation. Love your videos and keep up the great job

I love this. I'm 70. I grew up in a time & place where having a hearing loss was to be a freak. I learned not even to be self-aware. I was hard of hearing, but I didn't even have hearing aids. My parents were concerned that I might be bullied. I love your grandma. She seems so sweet and a great support for you.

I love that your grandma signs. I'm Deaf too, live with my grandma and my son. My son is hearing and signs but my grandma refuse to learn and I don't want to force her but we just don't have easy communication because I don't speak and she doesn't sign. She does get annoyed by this sometimes but I still try my best with her.

thats so painful 😔 it's as if saying, "i don't really care enough to learn to speak with you". i'm not saying that that's what's going on, but that's how i felt when reading that 😢 if anything, that would make me enroll into a class right away.
@ileene__danielfudge1765
@ileene__danielfudge1765 Жыл бұрын
@@briattnybrittany6843 that's exactly what it is. She cares but to her sign language doesn't benefit her directly. She doesn't think she will get enough praise for her to learn for it to matter and she's very much about image with her friends. She she cares about me, just not enough where it really counts and matters. I also grew up in the Foster system and she never cared enough to get me out so there's that. There's love there but it's absolutely conditional and with limits

That is so sweet that she is still learning ASL! My German grandmother learned Norwegian for me when I was born, in case I wouldn’t grow up speaking German in Norway. My mum ended up moving to Germany with me and had raised me bilingually anyway. But it’s so sweet that she made the effort to learn it for me and to make it easier with my Norwegian dad as well. Learning languages is hard and takes a lot of effort and confidence to give it a try 🥰 it means a lot when family members or friends put in the effort to learn your language. Whether that be signing or a spoken language.

For CI you have much better chances for it to work if you do it while the child is still really young, because their brain are adaptable. That's why it is still done with parental approval. I am not saying it is the way to do it, just explaining why it can't be done later in life
@GiantTorpedoes

Can u pretend to be a white person when u were born black? So, why should a D/deaf person try to pretend to be hearing person when they get cochlear implants? I, myself, am profoundly Deaf and am proud of it.
@pegaseg70
@pegaseg70 4 жыл бұрын
@@GiantTorpedoes as I said, I am not saying it is the way to do things In the video they are saying parents should wait for the child to consent to it. I am explaining why the procedure cannot really wait until you are 18 or older to consent to it. It can be tried, of course, but will not work as well or at all and cause complications.

@@GiantTorpedoes actually, I agree with you. I don't believe parents should be allowed to make that decision. But I also understand the science behind why it is done so young.

Eye contact is very important when signing. Peripheral vision is used to understand signs and is very easy (unless there is a DeafBlind individual with a more restrictive field of vision).

Loved the video. My daughter is HOH and my son is deaf. We have decided to get him cochlear implants, however, we are also learning ASL so that he can choose what he prefers when he is older. Unfortunately, waiting until a child is old enough to consent to CI's provides an enormous set back if your goal is for them to talk at a level of their hearing peers. But everything is personal to your families goals! Love your videos!

Hi Cbeyenna, I was wondering how much you pay attention to the sign language compaired to lip reading because I can see you look at her face instead of her hands. And maybe also how you do it in general with people who don't sign?

what the differences between SEE and ASL
@domy6827
@domy6827 4 жыл бұрын
as I understand it ASL is a different language with its own grammar, that just shares vocabulary and mouth patterns with spoken english. SEE follows spoken english grammar while using sign, a sort of "signglish"
@abigailsbooked
@abigailsbooked 4 жыл бұрын
See stands for “Signing exact English” example: I am going to the store. In ASL that sentence would just be signed “STORE I GO”
