No, they charge juveniles as adults ALLL the time. The US is the only country other than Somalia that gives full life term sentences to children. You want someone to blame, blame corporate greed. When I was a kid a single mother could hold down an apartment, a baby sitter, and food and cloths and occasional toys for 2 or 3 children all by being a waitress. Now!? People living alone, working full time jobs, are having to choose between electricity or food. These kids aren’t stupid. They understand there’s no future more than most adults do. 30% of the US’s service industry workers are either homeless or living in their cars while employed and working. Nobody who is employed and working in this country should not be able to afford even at least a $hitty apartment. It’s the gig economy.

They still have it and that’s literally a legal form of slavery. Coupled with the fact that less then 10% of ppl go to trail and if you go with out a paid lawyer you’re pretty much guaranteed conviction I’d venture to say 25+% of ppl in prison are innocent. Until we get a system that is discriminatory towards poor ppl & anyone that doesn’t look sympathetic to a jury let’s focus on rehabilitation & not punishment. A lot of these ppl are getting out and as of right now they come out worse making prison a criminal finishing school / that traumatizes sum making them more prone to violence.

The program implemented by the judge at the end is pretty amazing, when applicable. Reformatory measures have been largely ignored and warehousing people seems to generally be preferred. Too often the warehousing method is implemented, without offering real means for people to acquire healthy habits, make meaningful changes, & ways to be a part of society. More people like this are needed.
