Qatar, currently the world's number one exporter of liquefied natural gas (LNG), recently announced that it will increase production from 77 million tonnes of natural gas to 100 million tonnes a year by 2024.
With proven gas reserves of almost 26 trillion cubic metres, the peninsula is home to the world's third-largest reserves of gas after Russia and Iran. The majority of Qatar's natural gas is located offshore in the North Field which is shared with Iran. Gas has helped transform Qatar into one of the richest countries in the world, and at current prices, the announced increase in production would translate to revenues of around $30bn.
Corporate energy giants like ExxonMobil, Shell and Total are already lobbying the government to take part in the expansion.
So what does Qatar's ambitious natural gas expansion plan mean for the LNG market and the world's future energy supply?
"The demand for LNG is expanding ... it has been said that towards 2025 in the first half of the next decade, supplies of LNG might be short and that's exactly what Qatar is banking upon. Announcing a major expansion of its export capacity, they [Qatar] aim at coming onto the market at the moment when supply might be relatively short," says
Professor Giacomo Luciani from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva.

Eventually we’ll come to realize that, regardless of the stupendous amount of gas and oil that had existed, they were ‘finite resources’ that would have lasted a lot longer had we done a better job of supplementing them with renewables and utilizing their energy more efficiently and judiciously. Also, this would have slowed the rise of greenhouse gases in the biosphere and helped mitigate the negative effects of global warming. Epitaph: “What Did They Think Would Happen? Answer -They Didn’t”

Angry Jock they have the world largest fleet LNG and LPG gas carrier ships.. they also can use Iran or Iraq through turkey to Europe for their pipeline they don't need Syria :)

Angry Jock i doubt they need that pipeline now. maybe thats where this qatar blockade came from. They had U.S and Saudis in their ear. Not no more. #1 They've since invested billions in Russia's Rosneft. #2 Plans of Increasing Gas Production. #3 Relations with Emerging countries like Turkey, Iran, Syria, Russia, China. All worth more in the long run, than a pipeline that benefits U.S-Zionists-Saudi interests, that slaughtered innocent civilians.

Nasser A ships cost more to transport gas more than the pipeline. Russia supplies a lot of europe, hence why USA wants to cut russia off and blame them for everything. Russia profits is building them excellent warefar and america wants to stop that.
