Farya Faraji

Farya Faraji

Music by Pierre Guédron, vocals, video and arrangement by Farya Faraji. This is a French song from the 16th century, an era which saw the proliferation of polyphony and counterpoint-independent melodic structures interacting simultaneously in contrast to earlier music of the Middle-Ages, which was primarily monophony or hereophonic in nature: one melody only throughout the entire musical structure.
Pierre Guédron was a French singer and composer renowned for his airs de court, (court airs), a genre of secular songs performed in the royal courts and immensely enjoyed by the French kings.
English translation:
Speak no more of Love to me,
Chaos reigns in Court,
Oh Gods, punish these fickle souls,
Oh Gods, punish these light lovers!
These lovers, to disappoint us,
Swear to Love and it’s power,
Oh Gods, punish these treacherous souls,
Oh Gods, punish these light lovers!
They feign more passion,
When they have less affection,
Oh Gods, punish these disloyal hearts,
Oh Gods, punish these light lovers!
The faith of these mocking spirits,
Flees from their mouths out of their mouths,
Oh Gods, punish these disloyal hearts,
Oh Gods, punish these light lovers!

of course he pronunces it the old way! i find modern french promuncuation to be an exercice in sucking the life out of spoken language. when you compare standard tv french with québécois, swiss french and old french you realize that there once was rythm in the language and that a huge amount of sounds used to be differentiated and not anymore. as a language fan i love old french.

Farya, son of Souvlakis makes for an exceptionally handsome musketeer or gentryman, the jeans especially sell the look to me. Devilish good looks with that voice is criminal. This is one of my favorite Mannerist songs, so touching, so pure and innocent, song capable of making me cry in some interpretations. Melodically it is already possible to feel a certain freedom in the composition that corresponds to the Baroque, I consider this song a transition, hence I call it "Mannerism":
