Why return it after paying for months and months?

​@@jerohamromero This vehicle was on lease, so I had the option to return it or keep it at the end of the lease term. If I returned this vehicle well before the lease end date, I would still be legally obligated to finish the payments lease term. I enjoyed the car during the time I had it but glad I decided to give it back to Ford.

I’m mad I took this car on finance at 120 miles the transmission start giving problems no reverse and gears slipping and dealers shop charging me 5500 to rebuild

Thanks but last summer I found that option. I do wish I there was an option to keep it on indefinitely however that is only good for vehicles that can tow.

What about the automatic transmission, it's good? Because the 2012/2015 gen was really bad.

Rafael Jimenez I am using the 2016 Focus SE Hatchback Automatic transmission for 2 years now. Did two times oil change and regular service. It’s running good without any issues

for those who see this...turn off traction control...makes the car so smooth. also get a pedal commander or similar. makes it a whole new car. also a straight through exhaust will help

yeah, I later found out that the seat will fold up to let the back fold completely flat.

Sorry for the late response, in the upper trim models, there would be buttons here for turning on the heated seats and/or steering wheel. The slot are for business cards or credit cards.

Yes, the 2016 model was part of the transmission recall and the PCV Valve recall. The PCV valve issue could cause deformation of the fuel tank and a possible engine stalling if the fuel level wasn't above the half mark.

Patrick Galego The transmission is still “working as intended” The stutter from 1st gear is still there but it varies. The issue is not severe by any means. I drive in manual mode full time so it helps with the shortcomings of the transmission. The odometer is reading 26,734. In summary, so far so good. I might end up keeping the thing.

I think I'll test drive or rent one for a day to actually know what everyone is talking about regarding the transmission. I imagine it's like the one time I rented a 2017 Hyundai Tucson which also has a dual clutch transmission. Within the first hour of driving it I experienced stuttering and slight trembling off a red light or stop sign when giving it gas. The car would feel like it was hesitating and then pop into gear. If I gave it a little too much gas off the light the car would jump a little and accelerate quickly. In my opinion no car should do this but if you understand the transmission it can't be viewed as a problem. I could potentially live with the stuttering but not the full blown issues that some have reported like not being to go into reverse and the transmission jumping gears back and forth. Do you know if they've fixed the issues with the 2017 model? I really like the car and it would be perfect for my needs but I'd also like to save money by buying a 2015 and not have any buyer remorse if I end up buying one.

Would you get another SE Sport or would you opt for the Titanium pkg.? I'm looking to upgrade to a 2016-2018 because I want the newer body style but I'm trying to decide if I want an SE sport or Titanium. The SE Sport looks better on the exterior but the Titanium has a nicer interior, so I'm torn between the two models. I'll assume that they both get about the same MPG.

I did not hear of any reports of the trans issue for the 2016 model year.

It's not the same transmission. It's since been changed. The PowerShift had isues. Now it's the SelectShift transmission. They probably should've advertised that

All 2012-2016 Ford Focus's equipped with the 2.0L. engine, use the same automatic transmission, regardless of name. It uses a dual clutch transmission that has one tranny that controls even gears and the other tranny that controls the odd gears (this is where the dual clutch gets its name) It is basically a manual transmission that is controlled by a computer to change the gears for it. It has been plagued with issues ever since it came out in 2012. Contrary to belief, its not really the transmission itself thats the problem. Its the computer tuning that is causing it to shift rough, shuttering, staying in one gear for long periods of time and at times not allowing the vehicle to move. Ford has had tons and tons of warranty claims for this issue. They have done everything from replacing the transmissions, clutches, and ECU reflashing. I seen one case where an owner had his tranny replaced three times before 100,000 miles. There is a SCT vendor on FocusFanatics.com that has a tune for it that fixes all of these issues and he has had a 99% success rate with all of his customers. I think its $500 for the tune and tuner. He actually had some Ford dealerships use his tune. Now the 2015 and 2016 Focuses don't seem to have the issues like the 2012-2014 models did. I think Ford actually updated the clutch. But thats not the main problem. 2012-2016 Focus's have gotten very horrible reviews from the magazine outlets cause of this issue. The Focus itself, I think, is one of the nicest compact cars out there. Its sporty looking, its got good power, the interior is awesome, handles great and is actually fun to drive. But as a buyer of one of these, you need to be aware of its tranny shortcomings. Im sure not everyone has had this problem. If I was to buy a new Focus with the dual clutch tranny, I would immediately get that tune for it. Or better yet, if you don't mind changing gears and spending a few thousand extra, get the base model ST.

Get the manual transmission version. The automatic transmission/DCT in these cars have issues with premature failure and excess wear.

@@QuadroNVS lol, I wish I could’ve seen this before I bought one. I had a 2018 auto se. 3 months in and my transmission basically started to over heat. Lol, I sold the car and bought a Taurus. I’m happy to be away from that dual clutch.

My lease is up in a few months. I like the car but dislike the transmission. The transmission performs its duties but my 2009 kia van performs those duties in a smoother manner. what a shame. I am looking to go with a manual transmission if i get rid of the focus.

yeah its a slushbox. Its great when its working but when you need to put your foot down, the transmission forgets its job.

Reports are few but they are no where as bad as the 12-14 models. I honestly don't know if the issues are "Resolved"

Matthew Smith I've had a 2016 Focus SE for about 8 months now and have only experienced one hard shift, albeit it was at like 30 mph and the accelerator was released suddenly after being floored. Overall, you typically can't feel the car shifting unless you're actually trying to feel it.
