On my Sundown SA 8's I'm running .5 cuft per sub in a ported inclosure. In a 4th order it requires a .25cuft sealed side.

This is over simplifying it but output is determined buy Cone area, Motor force and Cone travel. NOT just cone area.

Exactly, also the basket size has nothing to do with the cone area!

The cutout on a DD audio 2508 is a full 8 inches.

I hear what your saying dude and I'm not a sundown nut hugger my question is the sundown x8 v3 should still be potentially louder am I correct? I understand the Toro has more cone area but hypothetically let's say you have a 12-in woofer that's a 500 w RMS subwoofer and you have a 10 in woofer that is 1000watts rms even though the 12-in moves more air shouldn't the 10 in still capability wise be louder?

You think that because they have trained you to believe that power equates loudness. Financially beneficial to the manufacturers. Power is a component but not the end all

@@M.B.Enclosures right and I agree to an extent but I'll give you an example so I built an encloser for a pair of lower wattage sundown SA v1 rev 2 12s and he put them on a orion hcca3000.1dsplx and dialed it in and it was loud then he changed it up and put a pair of U series 10s on the same amp and same impedance same tuning and proper enclosure just like the other set of subs and he gained 1.7db now I know there's a lot of variables but to a certain extent motor Force plays a roleand getting efficiency out of the system is the goal but I was just wondering at what extent does it matter like there has to be some kind of a basic principle to go off of right?

Basically your max output is based off of cone area and mechanical xmax limit combined. Together these two make up the maximum amount of air volume a sub can move. Often a sub with a lower xmax also will have less resistance a higher spl by 1 watt so it will take less power to reach its mechanical limit. It’s really all a balancing act.

I have ct sounds strato 8 with same basket as the toro but 600 watts rms mega foam, small cone area. You should compare to the 2

Brother I'm sorry but I have to disagree with you about the whole reaching xmax at 750 and not getting louder with 2k because I had 4 sundown Sa15's in my Lincoln mkx on two Skar sk3500.1's strapped for a 2ohm final impedance and I clamped 3k from one of those amps at 2.3ohm 13.8v playing a 32hz tone so I know at 1ohm they're doing atleast 4k each and I had the electrical to support it too with a CES 300AMP alt, xs d3400 under hood and d3100 in back with 2 runs of stinger hpm series tinned ofc now if I clamped only 750 per sub it sure as was not going to do the 153.7db I did when sending full power to them! So if they can handle more power cleanly then they WILL get louder with the extra power....

Why so much box volume??doesn't it lead to less power??smh!!! Yea you get more bass at lower frequency,no power handling though...
