The Quantum Bigfoot CY.
The Quantum Bigfoot sure lived up to it's name, it's a massive 5,25 inch harddrive!
These would fit in the 5,25 inch bays in a PC, where you'd otherwise have a 5,25 inch floppy drive or CDROM drive.
Like the other Quantum Fireball series, it has this typical Quantum startup 'tune' when powering on.
Drive is a bit noisy and not realy fast, but still works and is quite interesting as there aren't many 5,25 inch harddrives I know of.
Specifications (from the internet):
2.1 GB capacity
3600 RPM
128 KB buffer
IDE ATA interface
5,25 inch

These are such great drives from my viewpoint, they sound great. Happy to hear that one is working well!

They are interesting drives for certain. Got 2 of them (still working). They are a bit odd though, being very big (using the 5.25 inch bays) makes it hard to place in many desktop PC's from that time (most had 1 maybe 2 of those bays, of which 1 was usualy occupied with a CDROM drive). They also seem to be a bit slower than the 3.5 inch drives (rotationspeed, but also read/write). I use them for extra storage in old PC's, not as bootdrive so it doesn't matter much.

@@Nemesizzonline How much slower are these drives?

Didn't make notes during the benchmark runs, but a bit slower (not that any harddisks at that time were realy high-speed). Rotation speed is around 3600 RPM, while a lot of drives at that time (the 3.5 inch ones) were already around 5400 RPM or so (I thought it would be around 4200 RPM, but having checked the specs of many of the drives I tested, a lot seem to be running at 5400 RPM or around that number, which is quite a lot faster than what the Bigfoots do).

I've done some benchmarks runs on them, the Bigfoot, Fireball SE and Fireball TM. Bigfoot and TM are quite close in speed comparison in numbers, however, during the benchmark, I've noticed that the transfer rate from the Bigfoot drops instantly, while the Fireball SE and TM could maintain a higher transfer rate for longer (TM dropped at about 45% into the benchmark, and the SE just near the end, at 80% or so). Acces time in ms (milli seconds) also favors the 3.5 inch Fireballs over the BigFoot (20.6 ms for the Bigfoot, 17.1ms for the TM and 15.3ms for the SE). So results from what I've got: Max transfer : 6.9MB/s (BigF) 6.8MB/s (TM) and 10.7MB/s (SE) Min transfer : 4.1MB/s (BigF) 4.1MB/s (TM) and 6.4MB/s (SE) Burst: 12.3MB/s (BigF) 4.7MB/s (TM, though I think this can't be right) and 27.5MB/s for the SE Like I said, those are just the numbers, but I've noticed the BigFoot drops in performance realy fast, it starts nice at 6.9MB/s but pretty much instantly drops to the low 5MB/s and eventualy 4MB/s , while the Fireballs could maintain their speed much longer. The Fireball TM has 1 bad sector though, and might be why it's somewhat slower (especialy the weird outcome with the burst test).

@@Nemesizzonline I just got my Bigfoot TX yesterday and these drives are huge! I had no clue it would be that big, and heavy too! Mine has a very similar access time to yours, which makes me wonder why the access time is so low? The performance is almost the same too despite having a 4000RPM spindle speed, which I find extremely funny as if people that purchased an original or CY model complained about the low spindle speed so Quantum decided "Yeah 4000RPM is fast enough for the new model, nobody will complain now"!
