Ooh, you just popped up in my 'recommended' and how jolly glad I am that you did. That corned beef and cabbage looked divine. A tip to save a few calories and make it easier to cut is to keep the tin in the 'fridge before use. Then the fat within it hardens and you can scrape it off. I'm subscribed and look forward to seeing more of you. Wish you lived close by and I could pop into your cosy kitchen for coffee! Warmest wishes from England. (the old one, not the New one!)

pastrychef2201 It's really easy. Boil your favorite potatoes about 8 medium or 3-4 lbs till soft. Drain the water off and add about a cup of milk or half and half. 1 stick of butter. Mash or mix add salt and pepper to taste. Adjust the milk they should be soft and fluffy. I can of corned beef. Mash chop it up and mash in to potatoes. Let cool. Make short crust pastry or buy frozen. Line the pan at least a 9x13 or bigger depending on how much you have. Add another pie crust on top. Make a wash with milk and egg and brush on the top. Make a couple if steam holes and cook till golden brown I bake at 375 for about 45 min. I make brown gravy but you could make milk gravy or buy canned. I make gravy with a 2 tablespoons of oil and 2 tablespoons of flour heat an mix together a cup of stock or water and stir till thick. I always add a bullion cube and some kitchen aid gravy browning, salt and pepper to taste adjust the liquid to the thickness you like.

I am so happy to see you back!!! I have missed you so much!!! I am going to have to look for canned corn beef and try that recipe. I am still trying to learn to cook for one. My freezer is suffering from all my attempts. LOL!! I freeze all the excess food I can't eat and now my freezer is too full!! LOL!! I love fried cabbage. But, I cook my cabbage with a little ham broth. I save the juice off my hams when I cook them. I pour it in ice cube trays and freeze them. Then I pop them out and put them in zip lock bags and put them back in the freezer. I use them in beans, fried cabbage, soups, and gravies. I love me some good ham!!! LOL!!! Thank you Paula for making these times so much more tolerable and fun!!

I just saw this video today. Boy, did it bring back some wonderful memories. My Mom, who has been gone for 21 years, used to prepare this same dish for our family. Mom, Dad and 4 kids. She always used two can of corned beef because my two brothers wouldn't touch cabbage, but loved the corned beef. I've made this many times throughout the year's for my one and only son, who is grown now. HIs wife had never heard of fresh nor canned corned beef - can you believe that? After she ate mine ( which is the same as your recipe) she fell in love with it. She buys it now forsandwiches. By the way, the grease can you have of your Mom's is the exact same one in my kitchen which came from my Mom. It always sat on top in the middle of her "cookstove", as she called it. lol Thanks for posting videos for everyone of which people can afford to buy and cook. Especially during this pandemic. God Bless you Paula. I miss your show so so much. Love is sent your way to you and your entire family. Hope everyone is well and being safe.

My grandmother was firm about cooking cabbages for 45 minutes EXACTLY!!! 15 minutes for the dark greens and then place your light greens with your dark greens and cook 30 minutes more making sure to stir periodically so the broth get to ever piece of cabbage. She always used bacon grease, but I use smoked turkey to make a broth (making sure only to use a little broth) and then put a little bit of oil on the cabbage to make up for the lack of oil in the turkey.

Is the canned one super salty & (since she didn't show, assuming she didn't) should it be rinsed off first OR just be sure to use less salt in everything else? If taste is even similar, would be a helluva' lot easier & less time consuming (plus SO much of a cost savings too!) than preparing actual corned beef. Stay safe & be well.
@sortathesame8701
@sortathesame8701 4 жыл бұрын
@@mmanda515 I keep canned corn beef in my pantry, so I just checked for you. There is 550mg of sodium per 2 ounces and it comes in a 12 ounce can, so yes I would say it was very salty. I only use it to make corned beef and potato soup and with that I adjust my seasoning at the end so I don't worry too much about how salty the meat is. I don't see any way to rinse it. I think it would just fall into tiny bits.
@22lilacsky
@22lilacsky 4 жыл бұрын
@@mmanda515 I personally don't think it's that salty. I mean compared to regular corned beef. I have been using the canned for years. I love it! I just fry it up with onions or some kraut and put it on sandwiches. Sooo yummy! Try it! I use the brand Paula had, the libby's. But there are many kinds out there. Now is the time to stock up on it. Take care as well stay safe. Let me know if you try it and if you like it.:)
