After the time-lapse and scoring, I was wondering if after playing this many times, do players know what to expect from each deck (like the Theater Shift card) and can they then play to prepare for that? Does it wear out the re-=play value?

I think you're right: players will learn what to expect from the deck. But I think this can only make the game better, like you play more you get better and better and find new ways to strategise.

@@BoxofDelights I guess that is true. Two players who both know the decks would be very challenged to keep surprising their opponent.

@@n20games52 of course, you know what's in there, but not when it's coming. Another trick is to keep an eye on their discard piles, and if you can make them discard cards, they might lose some of their key cards and you can take advantage of that. Twilight Struggle has the same kind of play: knowing your deck is how you get better and better.

So, if I understand this correctly, a Navy can battle a land unit but that navy must use a land battle card, right? Also, if a land unit battles a navy unit, it must use a sea battle card. Is that correct?

Right. The card you play should match the type of space being targeted: e.g. a Sea Battle card is used to battle a sea space, even if you are using an Army piece on adjacent land to do the battling.

6:52 "You can't though have more than two of your own units in the same space." Actually max is one per country per space. If only two players, then they can have max three per space, because both control three countries.

Right; “I meant you can’t have two”… I accidentally misspoke as the very next sentence I said I can’t place a unit there as that would make it 2.

Great game, great video. Quick question, and we were kind of surprised we haven’t found any one asking the same. The general question is, mostly for “Event” cards (I believe, the one in question here was an Italian card allowing you to recruit an Army in Ukraine AND Russia) that use an “and” statement, can you play and use the card if only one of the actions can be executed? In the case in parentheses above, can the Italians use the card and build an army in Ukraine (empty space) and just forego any action in Russia which had a Soviet Army positioned there. My inclination is yes you can use “half” a card, but we don’t have a full consensus on this. Thanks.

Great question. You cannot use "half" the card. The instructions must be completed in full and in the order given on the card IF POSSIBLE. The rulebook even does a little callout in case players were concerned, on page 14: "Some cards specifically direct you to build or recruit a teammate's piece: this is not a misprint! " However, if the card has two instructions, and one part is not possible, you can still do the other part (the rulebook on page 14 also offers an example of this). Alternatively, you can just discard the card for no effect as your Play step.

Ahhhh, so rereading the bottom part of your reply again, placing the Italian army in Ukraine but not in Russia (because the Allies were positioned there) is technically legal (using half the card essentially) but the Italians would not be allowed to PURPOSEFULLY only use half the card for some reason, if for instance there were no Allied forces in Russia. I will see if I can find online rulebook real quick for that and confirm. Thank you for quick reply, looks like our battle in the Eastern European Theatre is about to ratchet back up.

Hmm, Im not sure Im seeing on page 14 where it addresses this. I do see the section you mentioned where it talks of recruiting other armies from your team’s side.

I guess the section you may be referencing on pg 14 is “one benefit is not (typically) a prerequisite for another”. I guess we were just looking for something to go a step further and explicitly state “you can play part of the actions on a card if others on the same card are not legally possible”

@@spencera1129 that's exactly it. If you can play both parts you must, but if you cannot play one part, it does not stop you playing the other part alone. That's exactly how it is played. You don't have a choice.

The map looks pretty good but how big the spaces are is a little obscured Like, id like Africa and a few other spaces to be a little more split with this: Africa: Italian Libya, French North Africa, British Egypt, Italian East Africa, and British South africa Europe: all is good but id have the benelux, and caucasus spaces Asia: same thoughts as Europe but id split Siberia into Siberia and the Russian Far East North America: perfect South America: keep Latin America there but split it away from Brazil
