Another houserule to help with opening hand issues (from Edward Woods on BGG): "Germany, Russia, US start with a hand of 9 cards plus 1 Build Army; Italy, Japan, & UK start with 9 cards and 1 Build Navy." We haven't gotten to try this ourselves, but looks like it would reduce frustration! Helps this gives people some good ideas to chew with. -Ashton

no problem bastian! My mind was actually completely blown when I started reading the game's mechanics... and that playtime! So short! I think the name is a big turn off for lots of its would-be audience. And then more serious war gamers think that this is too light anyways. More reviews coming man :) -Ashton

I was laughing so hard during the intro and the part with the different accents, I nearly choked on my Wiener Schnitzel. 😂 But seriously, the only sentence I understood of the "German" was "er muss essen". I will now defrost a Wiener Schnitzel 😋. That's Austrian... But who cares? I still can't stop laughing 🥨

We played Axis and Allies so much we could get through a game in about 2hr with the revised and the anniversary editions, the double 1940 edition did take use 6 hours. I think I should try this could be fun been waiting to get War Room to the table but it is a long one.

I've played it three times. 2 of the times, Germany didn't draw those OP cards fast enough and died with italy. The other time Germany had a few in the starting hand and swarmed russia. All three times felt a little lame.
@Shelfside
@Shelfside 3 жыл бұрын
dang man, that's rough to hear. The Germany starting hand variance does get helped a bit with the mulligan mentioned in the nitpicks. Because of the cards directly fueling your actions, results like that can happen though. But yep, the simplicity of the individual turns can also make it feel a little lame for those who want more hand management. If you do end up playing again, I would recommend going through the decks! Hope this helps! -Ashton
@simonmtkwong
@simonmtkwong 2 жыл бұрын
Germany team needs to DISCARD, DISCARD, DISCARD, I've played so many games where the German player don't pick those OP cards early but also doesn't want to throw any card away and just lose the game for Axis playing slow and hoping they come up. The most strategic players needs to play Germany, it is by far the hardest team to play since you have to be able to ruthless to get to your good cards, even IF you draw Blitzreig for example, you still want to discard any cards you don't NEED now to combo with another power status early on. If a German player spends a turn and does a single basic action like BUILD or BATTLE early on, their team should shouting at them, they need to sift through to their power cards even if they have to drop all 7 cards...

Quick rules question. Can you play an event card to recruit 2 armies if in one of the 2 spaces, there is an enemy army. I know you couldn’t place your army in the enemy’s territory, but could you theoretically play “half” the card and place your army in the unoccupied spot? Thanks in advance.
@Shelfside
@Shelfside Жыл бұрын
Oh man, I am actually not sure! I would rule it in that you cannot do it, since you cannot play cards optionally (cannot play attack cards from hand when they wouldn't do anything). -Ashton
