On March 10, 2009, Steve Hall and Charlie Callagan hiked into the Owlshead Mountains and discovered Quartz Canyon. Quartz Canyon is a colorful, narrow canyon which contains historical quartz diggings. In March of 2024, Steve does an overnight backpack of 24 miles to return to Quartz Canyon, Sand Canyon, and Owl Lake. Along the way, he discovers an interesting rock formation which he calls Owls Talon Rock. He also stops by Owlshead Slot Canyon. The parking area for Quartz Canyon is about 3 3/4 miles southwest of the Amargosa River crossing on Harry Wade Rd.

Back four days after Steve’s video dropped to check view count and comments sections. Not quite 500 views and about ten respectful comments. Steve’s videos are top quality and take much energy and time to produce. I’m pleased that viewers and fans will benefit immensely for years to come as we explore Death Valley National Park

I remove a couple dozen balloons every year. It's amazing how they can get to some incredibly remote locations!

Nice video, my wife and I love the videos and made our first trip into the owlshead mountains in February. I'm trying to find maps that show sand canyon or quartz canyon and I can't find any maps with them identified. What map do you use?

Thanks for sharing. You can use this map which IDs most of the officially and informally named canyons in the Owlsheads. drive.google.com/file/d/1KUqDfZa3hb2cMCLLTYhtnd4Hxp5cbC97/view?usp=sharing
