Howdy, JR, and thanks for watching! I don't think you can go wrong with either scooter. The PCX is slightly more efficient because of its aerodynamics and lower seating position. The ADV has better ergonomics with its wide, flat bars and better suspension. The ADV also feels a bit more stable at higher speeds with its wider tires. Neither scooter is really designed with the intention of long-distance touring... they are more suited as city runabouts. However, Honda builds these little machines as tough as nails. All of the ADV150's that entered into the 2021 Scooter Cannonball Run survived the 4500+ mile trip across the country (except for the riders who droped out). I will be riding my 2015 PCX150 6500+ miles around the USA again this June for the 2023 Scooter Cannonball Run, so stay tuned for the adventure! Cheers! 😉👍--QM

@@KINGTERIK Sorry for the late reply... just saw your comment. Honda lists the valve check/adjustment intervals at only 2.5K miles for the 2015-2018 PCX's! Realistically, it can be stretched to 4-6K miles without worrying. Every time that I've checked mine, the valves are still in-spec. I had the Honda shop do the first maintenance on both of my PCX150's so it would show on the warranty card just in case there were any problems in the future. The shop charged me $400 for labor because of all of the plastics! OUCH! I've done it myself from that point forward. The procedure isn't that difficult if you have the shop manual and the right tools on hand. It's just tedious to pull all of the plastics to get in there to do the job. The seat, center cover, side panels, and the trunk tray need to come out before you can access the engine head. There are lots of small plastic tabs that are easy to break on those panels, so it's a bit nerve wracking the first couple of times. It's not so bad after you've been in there a couple of times, but it's still time consuming. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

@KingTerik The best approach is to follow the manufacturer's maintenance schedule for the first few intervals and then use your judgment about stretching or contracting those intervals based on your particular engine and usage history. The obvious signs of valves being out of adjustment can be excessive ticking at engine start-up (cold start), louder than normal valve noises at idle, backfiring, or when the engine is hard to start (spins over a long time before firing). The not-so-obvious signs are usually worsening fuel economy and slightly higher emissions. The valves will become tighter over time as the valve seats in the head wear down, which allows the valve stem to ride higher/closer to the rocker arms. This eventually prevents the valves from sealing completely, which allows loss of cylinder compression and lower engine efficiency. Hot gasses escaping past the exhaust valve during the power stroke can burn the valves, valve seats, and other engine components... eventually leading to premature engine failure. The traditional logic is that "loose valves are happy valves," meaning that they are fully closed and don't allow compression loss. However, excessive slack can also cause problems such as lower engine performace due to less valve lift and volumetric efficiency (can't move as much air through the cylinder), rocker arm and/or valve stem damage, etc... but those scenarios are much less common than tight/burned valves. Agreed! Small-bore life is just more fun, in my opinion, because you can soak in the scenery instead of rushing through it. I've ridden and raced just about everything for decades (moto-x, super-x, AMA superbikes, karts, SCCA, etc), so I've done all the go-fast stuff that I need. Now, I'd rather have fun riding a slow bike fast on rural roads... wringing out every last ounce of speed but never breaking the speed limits. 😉👍 --QM

I grew up riding and racing motorcycles and karts, so making the most of what you had was the essence of the game. Congrats on your CRF300L! I completely agree... riding off-road with a big, heavy bike is clumsy and dangerous. Those big machines break things when the fall down (and they WILL fall). More weight means more kinetic energy, so things are going to break... either parts on the bike or on the rider. I prefer to tackle my off-road chores with a bike that weighs less than 350 pounds (160 kg) so it's easier to manage and that makes the ride much more enjoyable. I haven't ridden the new PCX160 yet, so I can't say for sure which would be the "better" scoot. With your height and weight, I think the ADV150 would be a more comfortable scoot overall compared to the older 2016 PCX150. I've heard that the newer PCX150 and 160 have revised rear suspension, so that might help, but the additional suspension travel on the ADV150 is hard to beat. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

Thanks for the feedback! Yes, I encounter plenty of aggressive cagers and narrow-minded "bikers" in my travels. The cagers try to intimidate me and shove me off the road. The "bikers" crowd me and spout the usual "get a real bike" drivel. I usually ignore the idiot bikers, but I'll occasionally retort by asking how many bikes they have in the stable, or how many miles they've ridden that month. When they don't reply, then I already know the answer: they're not "real" motorcyclists... they're ignorant poseurs. The ones who are really up for a conversation are shocked to learn that I have 20+ bikes of all sizes and flavors in the garage, and that I CHOOSE to ride the small-bore machines for the challenge. Anyone can ride a 1500cc road sofa around the country in blissful comfort. I'll show them pictures of the little Honda Super Cub pulling a trailer in front of the Grand Canyon, and they nearly sh*t themselves when I tell them that I rode that thing 10K miles around the USA in only 23 days. That's a wake up call... it separates the REAL motorcyclists from the poseurs! 🤣👍 --QM

Since you put a lot of miles on yours can I ask you, what is a typical life span of these types of scooters? What is considered high mileage for a scooter. I’m looking for some used ones and I don’t know what’s considered high mileage for these. I love your videos and I think that what you and your friends are doing is amazing. Just ignore the posers man. Real men are confident on everything because we don’t care what others think of us. Do things because you enjoy them not because you want to please others. Thanks for the feedback! This video was recorded on my trusty old GoPro Hero 7 Black camera. I process all of my video with Adobe Premiere Pro. I do minor color correction and audio processing (e.g., volume normalization and noise reduction), but most of the picture quality is straight from the cameras. I record group conversations with a dedicated audio recorder and an extra Cardo PackTalk communicator. I used the Hero 7 cameras for several years, but I have recently upgraded to the Hero 11. The 11 has better image quality, video stabilization, and low-light performance, but it's significantly larger and more cumbersome on the helmet than the older, smaller Hero 7. I might switch back to the Hero 7 at times when I need a smaller footprint. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

Howdy! I am running with the Garmin Zumo XT on this trip: amzn.to/3Oai7Ba . The Zumo XT's screen is very bright and legible in full daylight, so I never have any problems reading it at a glance. The displays on previous Zumo's (e.g., 350, 396, etc) are a bit weak in direct sunlight, so I try to angle them downward or use a glare shield (extended hood over the top of the GPS, secured by Velcro). Most smartphone screens suffer similar problems in direct sunlight, so they can be nearly unusable in some cases. If you already have a dedicated GPS unit for car or motorcycle, then you can search Amazon for "GPS sun shade" to find options that will fit your unit based on the size of the display. I've made several sun shades out of black coroplast (corrugated sign board plastic). I cut a large enough rectangular sheet, bent it into a U shape, and secured it to the GPS with strips of Scotch Extreme or 3M dual-lock fastening tape (similar to Velcro, but hard plastic on both sides). I secured one side of the Scotch or 3M tape to the GPS with hot glue and stapled the other side of the tape to the coroplast sheet. It's removable, but not unless you really want it to come off. Ouch, that sucks! I don't know how difficult that process might be. The factory service manual has a detailed procedure for the emergency unlock routine. It may also give details on reprogramming new remotes without replacing components... I'm not sure, though. Good luck with that recovery process! Agreed! I absolutely hate taking the super slab anywhere unless I really NEED to get somewhere quickly. The back roads and rural highways are much more enjoyable, and they are definitely safer for smaller bikes to travel... generally lower speeds and fewer homicidal cagers to contend with. I have an extra EDGE joined into the mesh, and it's connected to a dedicated audio recorder to capture the group comm's. Thanks for the feedback! Honda maintenance schedule for the ADV150 (and PCX150) specifies oil changes every 4K miles, and the final drive every 2 years (no mileage specified) on pages 63-64 of the owner's manual ( cdn.powersports.honda.com/documentum/MWOM/ml.remawmom.22_adv150a__kowa__owner_s_manual.pdf ). I think those are highly optimistic figures, so I don't stretch the oil life that far. These engines only hold about 1 quart of oil, and they don't have oil filters, so that's a LOT of abuse for a small quantity of oil to endure. Oil is cheap, engines aren't. I always try to change the engine oil on these small scooters and motorcycles every 2000-2500 miles. I've had very good luck with the Pro Honda HP4M (synthetic blend w/ moly) and the HP4S (full synthetic) oils in these engines. I also have magnetic drain bolts in all of my bikes and scoots to help capture abrasive ferrous particulates in the oil. I use the Gold Plug MP-01 in this scooter: amzn.to/3wUITnw The final drive oil seems to be good for 6-8K miles, but it's always quite dirty and has small metallic sparkles in it every time I change it. I typically change the final drive oil every 2-3 oil changes just to prolong the gears and bearings in there. I use the same oil in the final drive case as in the engine, but full-synthetic is probably best due to the high shear forces encountered in the final drive gears. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

Yes, Kevin adjusted his windscreen before the ride to the highest position, and I showed the two positions during my initial review video here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/sMByp9inxN7Rn2g.html . The problem for us is that the OEM windscreen is very small and doesn't offer much wind protection at higher speeds or for longer highway trips. The PCX is a lightweight scooter with a LOT of surface area, so it tends to get pushed around on the highway. I've learned to keep a light grip on the bars so I don't influence the steering as my body weight is pushed side to side. If you haven't installed a windscreen yet, then you should do that immediately! A properly sized screen (just below eye level) makes a huge difference above 50 mph. I noticed that I was gripping the bars too tightly above 50 mph due to the wind pressure on my chest... that was influencing the bike's handling. The National Cycle VStream screen removed all of my chest pressure, so I wasn't influencing the handlebars as much. Beyond that, I just let it sway around a bit before countersteering so I don't end up wobbling side-to-side as I try to fight gusty conditions. Adrian and I will be riding our PCX150's in the 2023 Scooter Cannonball Run across the USA. We'll have plenty of time to adjust our riding habits for the PCX's highway crosswind dances!
