A dozen red roses was the B side to A kind of magic, there’s a much shorter version of it during a car sequence in the film. Queen had seen a rough cut of the film before composing the music A kind of Magic was inspired by a line said by Connor & picked up by Roger. Brian wrote Who wants to live forever in back of a taxi after watching the footage.

I wrote to Brian's secretary years ago asking if there was a longer complete version of New York in the the vault anywhere, alas she said no, that cover version would have been epic. I love Highlander, I hope the new remade film is just as good. The New York song on Freddie's box set is a completely different song for those asking and do not know.

I had never heard the New York, New York before. Yes it was a very different instrumental side to them that is not heard much. But when Freddie comes in there is no doubt it is Queen. The electronic drums hit hard! Thanks for the reaction, Hap!

Wow, that was so different. I know a solo version of Freddie of "New York" where he sings a lot more, and I've been waiting for that. But as soon as the distinguished voice in the last few seconds comes in, you immediately recognize Freddie. And I agree with you that Queen must have seen at least a snippets of the movie and wrote the song and arrange the sound to fit the scene. Loved to see your facial expression while waiting for Freddie’s voice appearance, HAP🤩🙋🏻‍♀️.

I got the Freddie Solo version on the playlist which is so Freddie by the lyrics.- btw: I won't touch the Miracle with a 10 foot pole. Got me 2 different strikes. One for 10 seconds. Go figure.

I prefered the New York (Rare Demo) from the Box set, Freddie Mercury The Solo Collection - only a couple of minutes long but awesome! (and he sings )

So there are some left? Using "The Google" I find 312 to be the most popular answer with studio and lives. Who knows? We'll keep digging. NY/NY would be a song I would love to see Freddie perform. Even if it was just a bad video goofing around. Your Queen smile is like a kid on Christmas. It's also infectious.

7:30 - Hans Zimmer This was Queen's original instrumental track, "A Dozen Red Roses For My Darling", written by Roger Taylor, which was used in the 1986 film *HIGHLANDER* during the scene when Kurgan is driving like a maniac "playing chicken". The movie then segued into this verse from "New York, New York". For decades people have been searching for a "complete" version of Queen's cover of "New York, New York", but sadly, this verse heard in the movie is literally all that has ever existed of it. They *NEVER* recorded a "full" cover of the entire song.🤷‍♂️ Reportedly, Freddie didn't even want to sing this 1 verse, and had to be coaxed into doing it after being given enough alcohol🥃 to be enough sheets to the wind to just say "F@%k it, let's just do it." This piece *WAS* performed by Queen, and was a B-side to "A Kind Of Magic" in several territories. It was then repurposed, reimagined and re-recorded into the song "Don't Lose Your Head" for their studio album A Kind Of Magic. And while *that* version of the song was *not* used in the 1986 *HIGHLANDER* film, it did eventually find its way into a 1992 episode of Highlander: The Series("Free Fall") guest starring Joan Jett.🗡 Awesome reaction Hap!👍

So apparently they are going to do a remake of the movie Highlander with Henry Cavill and rumour has it that they are going to use the soundtrack of the original movie on the new one.

Don't hold your breath on that remake getting made anytime soon, or with Cavill. They've been trying to get a remake off the ground for over 15 years. 10 years ago it was supposed to be directed by Justin Lin(of the Fast & Furious films) and star Ryan Reynolds. There's no finalized script, no budget, no filming schedule, no other casting announcements for the last *3 YEARS* (since Cavill was initially announced as being involved back in mid-2021), and no planned release date based on ANY kind of production schedule. There's been absolutely *NO* progress made towards actually getting this project into production in over 2½ years. Don't believe anything that they try to hype up about this proposed remake until they're offering up some additional *confirmed* cast info *AND* some on-set photos to confirm that filming has *actually* commenced. And don't put too much stock in any rumors either(including whether or not they are or aren't going to use Queen's original songs)🤷‍♂️ The most recently attached director, Chad Stahelski, is far too busy continuing his John Wick universe, along with other *guaranteed* projects that are getting tossed his way(thanks to the success of the John Wick films), and Henry Cavill will have his plate full for the next few years with his newly announced involvement with the MCU, and his Warhammer passion project.

@MAHKSALK - And I've been following the *actual* "progress"(or lack thereof) of this project ever since Peter Davis first announced it back in 2008. I've been one of *the* most passionate fans of the Highlander franchise for the last 30 years, and had worked directly with Davis/Panzer Productions as a merchandising consultant, liason between them and the fan base, and moderator on their official Highlander message board forums back in the early-to-mid 2000s. From my own far more direct experience with this franchise and those in charge of making this project, I have a better idea of what to get excited about than whoever you heard these rumors from. Have they been talking about it regularly for the last 15 years?🤔 I highly doubt it. 🤷‍♂️ There's literally been *NO* new information to announce or talk about in 3 years. It's just the same regurgitated tripe that Stahelski is obligated to say so that current investors(poor saps) won't lose faith and back out, and to attempt to draw in more interest from a fading and disillusioned fan base. But those of us who've been passionate about the franchise for decades and *KNOW* the history of Davis/Panzer Productions, understand the *facts* of the matter. *DON'T HOLD YOUR BREATH* 😉😆

@@FreddyKurganNimmo just read a article a few minutes ago from gamerant where they say the movie is supposed to be out in 2026. But from your last message it seems like you don't whatever people tell you even if people give you sources like as an example the John Campea Show or Gamerant or screen rant not sure about the name. But to be fair you don't have to believe it I didn't ask you to anyway. And anyway what I said on my original post I never claimed the info was official I actually used the words Apparently and Rumour. I never used the Official. So you can't say that what I'm saying is true or not.

@MAHKSALK - No, I won't believe anyone giving "updates" about this movie, after 15 years of "updates" that have led to absolutely *nothing* , until such time as genuine evidence of filming has begun. I've been down this road before. The entirety of the '90s were filled with rumors, announcements and "updates" regarding Freddy vs Jason that didn't lead to anything until 2003. And until the evidence of filming had been shown, most fans were doubtful that it would ever happen. With each new "update" that led to nothing, the skepticism grew. That's where most of us are at now with this Highlander remake. If you, or anyone else reporting these "updates", knew the history of the franchise and Davis/Panzer Productions(and their habitual blowing of smoke), let alone this specific project, you would be just as negatively skeptical as the overwhelming majority of the long-time fan-base has become. The number of announcements about upcoming projects for this franchise over the last 25 years that have led to *nothing* is laughable. They've jumped the gun so many times that we're sick of having to recount the story of "The Boy Who Cried Wolf"🙄 Don't hold your breath.

The end of this is "New York, New York", and the 1 verse that Freddie sang at the end is all that exists of his vocals for it. And it was specifically performed to this exact music in 1986 for inclusion in the film *HIGHLANDER* . The first 4 minutes and 40 seconds is an original instrumental piece by Queen titled "A Dozen Red Roses For My Darling", which, in the *HIGHLANDER* film, segues into and ends with this 1 verse from "New York, New York". If you're referring to Freddie Mercury's solo act song "New York", that's a completely different song, not just a different version of this same song.
