I remember many years ago, in the old magazine Northwest Chess, there was a recurring comic strip. It was something like The Adventures Of Nasser Bagapawn. It was obviously about Yasser. There was another character, Nasser's faithful sidekick, Ron McDonaldson, who was clearly IM John Donaldson, who was Yasser's second in the World Junior Championship (and who was the team captain for several U.S. teams in the Olympiads). Funny stuff!

@@rjdjdjdj5623 names are a good way to tell too. But for me, with Yasser, i just immediately knew, and then googled to check if I was right. I lived in Syria and been around Syrians all my life so it was quite easy to tell. Saudis, for example, are also really easy to identify with just looks. I think it's just about spending the right amount of time getting familiar with how they look.

Bobby leaving chess and being succeeded by Karpov reminds me a bit of Holms and Ali. Karpov never got a fair shake the first few years after taking the title (like holms) and was then almost overshadowed by the next guy to come after him Tyson/Kasparov.

It's only this channel, where we see the replays in slow motion, that we can see the pieces are actually moving in a circular fashion as they go from square to square. But because they seem to move almost instantly, their circular paths are hidden. Thank you, Agadmator, for revealing the hidden secrets of the game!

This spiral motion is due to the earth's rotation, which applies a gentle coriolis effect to the pieces as they move. Strangely, though, the motion only occurs on very special moves.
