neck to neck between Moxi Jack and Bont Parkstar atm. My Jacks are wonderfully broken in by now and I hope that my newly acquired Parkstars will become as comfortable at some point :) Started on Edea Skates because these are pretty much one of the first brands you get in contact with in Europe (next to Chaya and Rio but these mostly come with plastic plates ... or is it Nylon? not sure)

I got SureGrip's Golden Hour skates as a birthday present this year (I asked for them :) and they are SO COMFY! The laces and toe stops weren't my favourite, but once I swapped those out they became my perfect skate. 💛

yes! that's why I went with a pair of Boardwalks that were on sale rather than an Impala or something in that price range. I used to go to the rink as a kid, so I was like, worst case scenario I'll hold onto these for the next time skating comes in fashion lol
@kristinec212

Why would they hood a value used? Wouldn't used be a disadvantage bc you've already worn down the wheels more and widened it to your foot?
@ashleykbarks
@ashleykbarks 2 жыл бұрын
@@kristinec212 wheels are easily replaced and fairly cheap. As for having them being confirmed to a certain person's feet, I wouldn't say this is true for leather. Leather boots easily reshape. You can condition the leather after the fact, and also, leather/suede is a bit easier to clean up or dye to fix. As for vegan/plastic boots, I kind of agree. They're already on the lower end of the price spectrum, and if you scuff the color or design, you're kind of done and you just have a blemish on your skate.

I just bought 40€ skates from Decathlon to start rolling, there is a concrete slab next to my house that is perfect. I know I'll absolutely destroy them, but I wanted to know if I could skate and enjoy the sport. I'll try them out for a couple of months before splurging in something awesome. This is awesome! I've been researching this information for a while now. Settled on some candigrls and before they even arrived I decided they were going back because they did not have an adjustable toe stop and a new plate would be $70. I grabbed new bearings and lube, laces, a tool and after the toe guards and possibly new cushions I decided I need a different skate. I am currently looking into the suregrip boardwalks because I can't find any moxi lollys available in my size. While I'm ranting, I also grabbed some smiths knee pads and wrist guards but now I see that on a certain online skateshop there's a 6 pad set of 187s for an extra 20 bucks. I'm not only looking into skates and protective gear but I'm searching for adequate home studio equipment for voiceovers while starting therapy for drinking! lmao what a ride. Ok I'm done. Thanks for making this video exist. Much love to you and Shove

I got some Impala skates for half off during their spring break sale and I'm stoked. I know nothing about skating. I'm a roller blader, but I feel the culture, retro look, and customizability of skates is alluring, so I'm going to give skates a shot and if I like both blades and skates, I'm going to go for the Jack boot, because I want made in USA and I prefer the extra support. I'll shop around, though, but I just think I'll keep mine for years and think that Moxi boot will be great. Ive had my same pair of roller blades for years (they're not the best, either, so I should consider upgrading those as well 😬🙄), and I want them to last.

I recently got my first pair of skates. I got Jackson vista vipers. I love them. The boot is so sturdy and theres a decent amount of padding around the ankle and tongue. They were around 240 after tax and shipping. My feet are 25 cm long and i wear a size 8 womens in most shoes like Vans. I got a size 7 in the vistas and at first i thought they were going to be too small. They were hurting my big toes but after the break in period they fit perfect. I didnt want a skate that would be too big after the break in.

I had a very very low budget a few weeks ago when I chose to start my skating journey after yeaaaars of wanting to. I was able to get myself cheap skates but upgrade the parts (more durabls trucks, toestops) to make them safer and meet my needs for under $70. There's all kinds of options, if you're confident to switch things out!

When I first started skating I had a pair of rookies and they are really good. Although I’m a pretty rough skater who does a lot of jumps and tricks and my skates got worn down really quickly. I wore my toe stopper down to a 1cm block within 2 months. And I only have one toe stopper on my skates currently because I broke it off. But the skate holds up for its price and I’m still happy to skate in them. I’ve just ordered the Moxi beach bunnies because I have needed an upgrade for a while, with more customisation choices. I hope you enjoy your skates. :)

I got a pair of like super cheap Rookie Forever which are low quality but I got them used and def learned the basics on them. I also found a pair of discontinued Rio Roller Leopards what were almost twice the price as the rookies new, but I bought those used too and there's def a quality bump there. However as someone who was looking for years at over $150 skates and couldn't find the extra cash to get them.. spending 20-30 dollars on used skates got me skating. And by used I mean worn 3-4 times, so they were practically new. They made me insanely happy anyways. I will probably get a better pair next year, but for now I love these super cheap ones XD

So good! I love my current skates and don't need a new pair...but this video made me wish I had an excuse to shop again. Say, if you ever choose to revisit this topic, a version aimed at the experience of kid skaters would be amazing & I would share the hell out of it to my fellow skate parents. Parents and kids get a special set of weird sales messages at most skate shops - I get it, the salespeople don't want to scare us away by too-high price points and they know kids' feet grow! Result: a super narrow selection is offered and/or wildly varying advice about sizing. Or kids get sold cute colors over safe and comfy skates. It's tricky and children have an even harder time explaining what doesn't feel right than grownups! (My daughter is kicking ass at junior derby but had so much extra stress for 2 years because the ubiquitous Reidell R3s just don't fit her foot shape correctly. I didn't realize because I'm a newbie skater, too. After some serious thought and advice from our skate shop - shout out to FiveStride!! - her feet have been rejoiced in Bonts for the last 4 months!) BTW she loves you and your channel. Cheers!

i've always wanted skates and not blades, but my mom is not willing to get skates for me. in her opinion "blades are better for a complete beginner", but i've tried roller blading when I was a kid and they were too fast for me. now ive done my research and found that skates are a little slower, so I'm going to try and get my mom to buy them for me with my own money!
@Mel-qr5ob
@Mel-qr5ob 2 жыл бұрын
They aren't really slower. A skate's speed changes with the wheels, bearings etc. Not inline vs quad (at the rec level) Lots of quads come with good wheels out the box, vs quads usually having 💩 wheels from the factory. That's why "they're slower". Because the cheap starter quads, ie impalas, come with 💩 wheels. But a quad IS easier to learn on because you have more sideways stability. That will also help prevent knee/ankle collapse which can cause injuries. That's a better more accurate explanation for your mum. Remember the inline "speed skates" are different from regular inlines, they're a seperate category. Same way a "snow white" skate is more a wheeled practice iceskate, rather than a inline rollerskate.

a HUGE thank you! I'am an italian girl, and in my country we don't have "a lot" of skate culture, very often it's just artistic/figure skate, and even the shops here, they only have skates for that, wich cost a lot! So, please I need some advice XD, I would like a "soft" skate on the ankle, as I really like freestyle, slalom, a bit of dancing, but I would also like to try some jumps. Now I have a derby shoe (because when I tried it I liked the comfort) but sometimes I wonder if I have not chosen the "wrong" shoe for what I would like to do. Some advice? Thanks so much

I hev a question 😶 I need heylp, please lol. So, I'm on the fence of whether to upgrade to a lolly or a jack skate becauuuusee I know that jack skates are better for the skatepark, but I don't know if it will dancer friendly.. like I'm sure it's do-able but is it going to be like "Oh you wanna dance in me too, no problem, I gotchu boo!" My theory is that it maybe won't, bc of the stiffer boot/ankle support, bc my Riedels are stiffer and have plenty ankle support but for that reason it doesn't give me the flexibility I need to flow better in my leg and dance movements ..... if that makes sense..... I hope I'm making sense..... But if you could help me out in this area to even give so much as an opinion and/or suggestion, I would greatly appreciate it 😩💘 I also don't know if I could go ahead and use my riedells instead for the skatepark, just of course change the plate and wheels.... they are the "indoor/outdoors, 111"

I know it's impossible and unreasonable, but I wish there was a skate that could do a bit of everything. I don't want multiple pairs, at least not for now, but my budget is limited and I am confident that this is something I want to do. I hurt myself really bad when I was eight and never picked them up until 7 months ago and now in my 20s. I absolute adoooore floss lollys but I'm lowkey worried about the plate, im 215lbs 💀

I went with a cheaper pair of skates as im not sure I'll be doing those long term. I also have pretty large feet which limits my affordable skate options. If I enjoy it I will purchase a more quality pair when these wear ojt

You mentioned that plastic plates are dangerous. Would you not recommend the Moxi Lollys then, because they now come with plastic plates?

Hey! The Moxi Lollies come with reinforced nylon plates. Nylon is different than plastic.

Most Moxi skates I’m seeing online are for outdoor riding. Can their outdoor skates be worn in rinks? I don’t want to skate outdoors yet but i want a quality skater because safety is a must.
@romeofonzi2300
@romeofonzi2300 2 жыл бұрын
Hi! I’m sure you already found the answer to this, but usually if a skate is labeled an outdoor skate is usually means that they have a softer and larger set of wheels that are better for outside. However, they can still be used indoors, they just won’t be as fast as a skate with indoor, harder wheels. You could always replace the wheels if you’re only planning to skate inside, but I’ve used the stock wheels on the moxi lollys for 4 years and never had a problem in the rink. I hope this helped!

So outdoor wheels are going to be sticky on some surfaces. When a wheel is softer it is considered an outdoor wheel. Typical is around a 78a hardness

I think what is meant by skates with "plastic wheels and plastic plates" in the video is that there are these incredibly cheap roller skates, mostly distributed by mixed sporting good stores (that is where I usually see them), that are made with an acrylic plastic, for both the wheels and the plates. They are basically no better than a toy and can be incredibly dangerous to use (the plates snap or crack very easily and the wheels very quickly get shredded and nicked from the friction of using them). If you get your skates from a reputable shop, like a place that sells skates exclusively or a local skating goods store, you will likely not run into roller skates made with these materials. Before I realized this was a problem, I made the mistake at least twice of getting a pair of this type of skate, and got really frustrated because getting any kind of momentum, indoors or outdoors, was nearly impossible. I thought I was doing something wrong when in actuality the problem is that I had sacks of garbage on my feet. Not only are this type of skate dangerous to use, they are just really difficult to use. The materials you should be looking for at the minimum are nylon or metal plates and polyurethane wheels. This channel has a wealth of information on what you need depending on where you will be skating (indoors vs outdoors, dance skating, speed skating, etc).

So… the idea that imports are mass-produced and lower quality is incorrect. As an example, Chuffed Skates are a small company with incredible quality standards, and they’re in Australia. They make some of the best quality skates. I’d argue they’re better quality than Moxie. Please don’t make generalizations like this. Imported doesn’t mean mass-produced. Domestic doesn’t mean quality. This idea is something that was handed down through generations based in racist stereotypes. ❤
